Musings on fusions:

  • The fused Ruby had gems in the same spots as its constituent Rubies. What happens if Eyeball fuses with a Ruby whose gem covers her other eye?
  • All gems are female (or appear female, anyway). So are the fusions. If Steven fused with a guy would they end up as a girl too?

No, because Steven's fusions haven't been referred to as female. And if he's fusing with another male human, that would make even less sense.

[up][up]I think we all know what would happen if Eyeball fused with a ruby whose gem was on her other eye. evil grin Though we still don't know what would happen if two gems with the same gem placement fused.

But uh, not true on the second point. Both of Steven's fusions have been "theys."

Both Stevonnie and Rainbow Quartz have been referred to add "they."

I think a crew member answered a question about if two gems fused with the same gem placement. The gems would just appear above/below each other or next to each other.

[up][up]You mean Smokey Quartz.

[up]x5 The Gems become the pupil, the Rubles might still be able to see.

I think you mean Smoky Quartz. But that does lead to interesting question, if Steven and Pearl fused, would it still be Rainbow Quartz, or take on an entirely new identity?

The name wouldn't be different, just the physical appearance and personality.

[up][up]Yes. Smokey is smokey because rose quartz + amethyst makes smokey qauartz.

I think they would still be Rainbow Quartz, but it'd be like if another Ruby fused with Sapphire. They'd be Garnet, but not the same Garnet.

saying they plan on leaving Jasper and all the others like that forever isn't exactly right either.
And Bismuth they'll probably try to let out again eventually, though it may be a long time—like until there's a permanent solution to Homeworld's threat to Earth and generally crappiness.

Smokey is smokey because rose quartz + amethyst makes smokey quartz.
Fusion appear to take fixed named decided for their combination of gems types, though I wouldn't worry about where those fix names came from. Stevonnie's the only one they needed a name specific to them for.

Nice catch!

If you've seen a schedule listing episodes past "Future Boy Zoltron", don't get your hopes up. It's just that guys from Toonzone making guesses again, and people assuming he's right.

I'm not so sure about that. The only fusions we've seen form for the first time, Garnet, and Stevonnie, didn't just know their name when they first formed. It seemed to be decided later.

And in Smokey Quartz's case, they just reused a name from Amethyst's memory of fusing with Rose.

In Malachite's case we didn't get a name until Steven dream hopped into their mind.

I didn't say they know innately what their name was, I'm saying someone came up with names for possible gem fusions that all gems use and know. I also pointed out that it that doesn't make much sense, it's just what's convenient.

And of course Stevonnie had to have a new name made up, Connie isn't a gem.

they just reused a name from Amethyst's memory of fusing with Rose.
We discussed this before: it's not clear from her wording if she'd actually fused with Rose before, she was just saying what gem resulted from a Rose Quartz and Amethyst fusing together.

Fusions don't just name themselves after a gemstone that exists. Opal is called Opal because her gems are Opals.

If a Ruby and Sapphire fuse, they'll be a Garnet.

But fusion only changes a gemstone's color.

[up][up][up] Seems pretty blatant they did to me. There's no reason she'd say "I feel like Amethyst knows this" if she hadn't done it before.

Fusion doesn't just change the color of a gemstone. Smoky said "A Rose Quartz and an Amethyst make a Smoky Quartz".

They didn't just pick the name because it sounds nice, it's what they are.

Fusions don't just name themselves after a gemstone that exists. Opal is called Opal because her gems are Opals.
There's nothing about Opal's gemstone that's indicative of Opals in particular. Opals have a huge color variance. You literally picked the worst example as evidence for this blanket statement here.
