From the source material, more like Ret-Gone.
To harken back to the "Jasper hates herself" debate for a moment (mostly because I wasn't around during it), I think that Jasper's self-loathing can be easily traced back to her history.
She was created on Earth to serve Pink Diamond and fight in the Gem War on Earth. However, Pink Diamond got shattered, Homeworld lost the war, and they lost a ton of soldiers as well. Jasper probably thinks that she could have prevented all of these, but failed.
It only got worse when she returned to Earth and encountered the Crystal Gems. This time she set a goal for herself: Eliminating "Rose Quartz". However, not only did she fail in this, but she saw two fellow Homeworlders defect to the side of the Crystal Gems in the process. Not to mention, she broke Homeworld's code of mores by becoming obsessed with fusion, and yet even when fused, she still couldn't defeat the Crystal Gems.
After all of these failures, and one last-ditch attempt to succeed by creating an army of corrupted gems, Jasper still couldn't destroy "Rose" and became corrupted due to her shortsightedness and tunnel vision. Despite being a flawless quartz soldier, she failed to accomplish any of her goals, and as such, she marked herself a failure. That is why she refused Steven's help.
And once she discovers that Homeworld only really cared about her as a tool rather than a soldier on her own merits, it's going to get even worse.

I'm sure Jasper is already aware that she's considered a tool, her issue is that she's an ineffective tool.
I mean, she had that entire spiel about any Gem that serve their intended purpose must be purged and all Gems are taught they exist for the sake of the Diamonds.

That last thing's really not going to matter, all Gems should know how much they're worth to the Diamondo based on their function.
They don't hide how they feel...or at least YD doesn't, so it'd be dumb if she doesn't know that.

and
basically
What's more damaging is probably that the last thing she heard was Steven's complete cluelessness as to who Pink was, which for her can only mean one of two things:
- This weird runt really isn't Rose, she didn't even have the right target this whole time, stupid stupid
- But for Rose, it was Tuesday
I think the way Jasper freaked out made it seem like she took it as But for Me, It Was Tuesday and it deeply hurt/offended her.
Oissu! She's just this end of the Despair Event Horizon.
moved to Oceanstuck because this handle was starting to bother me my tumblrI find her pityable without necessarily being sympathetic. What she went through was horrible, and I'd never wish that on anyone aside from the Diamonds, but it did go out of its way to show that everything that brought her to that point was directly her own decisions and lust for power. There's nobody else who influenced her ultimate choices. Lapis as Malachite was a situation she couldn't always control, but the beginning, power struggle, and domination at the end were her doing, and she openly wanted that back, not Lapis.
Even if she won't see it, there's no one to blame but herself for what happened. Even the corruption as terrible as it is was entirely her responsibility, and she should've known that damaged Gems would leave unpleasant consequences, in spite of the fact that her prier experience was seen by her as a net positive.
Pink Diamond being shattered, and Jasper's reason for existing were not Jasper's fault. Those lead to her hating herself, which led to everything she did in the series. It happened because she felt she deserved to be punished for failing. Yeah, she probably knew what'd happen if she fused with the corruption, which is exactly why she did it.
So you think she's also into self-inflicted pain, too?
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Judging by the clip, is anyone else worried that Connie's sad because her and her parents are moving away or something, and the episode's gonna end with her breaking the news to Steven?Maybe that's just the cynic in me talking, but with this show's tendencies to put characters on a bus, I wouldn't be surprised. Or maybe it's just something personal that Steven will try to help her with.
Still, i have high hopes for this episode. Seeing Stevonnie fight should be amazing to see.
On that note, I'd love to see an action show starring a character like them, and have the first season finale's twist to be that they were two kids THE WHOLE TIME!
"The cruelest thing you can do to an artist is tell them their work is flawless when it isn't." -Ben "Yahtzee" CroshawJasper getting corrupted was the definition of a Karmic Death: She only got what she deserved, trying to fuse with a corrupted and incapable of consenting Gem she'd just been belittling.

It's just that it's gonna be nuanced regardless.

Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Corruption right now is akin to death since the gem devolves into a mindless being and can't yet be brought back. But yes, it is more of a Karmic Transformation.
Oissu! They become purely instinctual if they're in panic.
