am i high or did hcobb just say something believable
moved to Oceanstuck because this handle was starting to bother me my tumblrWith all this talk of racial coding for Gems, I figure I might as well jump on the bandwagon. Just a warning though; some of you might be kind of dissapointed...
- Garnet: Black

- Sugulite: White
- Sardonix: White
- Alexandrite: White
- Smokey: White

- Yellow Diamond: White
Not a lot of color, is there?
Yeah, I know it isn't exactly diverse, but for a character to be 'coded' to me, they need more than just having a certain voice actor; they also need to look the part. And so far, Garnet, Bismuth, Opal, and the Rubies are the only ones that look like anything other than whiter than whitebread, at least to me.

so about that Fantastic Nuke
do you think itd do something different if pink were in on it
moved to Oceanstuck because this handle was starting to bother me my tumblrI think part of it was the fact that Peridot didn't seem to know who the Crystal Gems were when they introduced themselves, which led people to believe that Homeworld either covered up the rebellion, or removed certain facts about it from their history.
I'd say one of my new favorites is Earthlings. Great portrayal of Jasper, a lot of important information is revealed, and Steven and Amethyst got some fantastic character moments.
Bismuth was a great episode, but I wouldn't quite put it as one of my favs. I will say that Steven's confrontation with Bismuth in the forge is easily one of my favorite moments of the show.
As for disliked episodes, The New Lars was a weird episode for me. I don't outright hate it like many people seem too, but I really don't understand what the hell they're trying to do with Lars. After not seeing him for so long, we see that he doesn't seem to have learned anything from previous episodes, and we also find out that the cool kids don't like him, and his parents are perfectly nice people who are afraid of him. I think it's nice to have a character who doesn't become a better person after just one focus episode, but while the Crystal Gems' long-term character development actually has them slowly overcoming their problems, Lars never seems to learn anything. Some people say that at least his and Sadie's relationship seems to be improving, but by this point I can't have faith that it'll actually stick, since Lars' character development never does.
I didn't outright hate "Kiki's Pizza Delievery", but I think it's one of the least notable episodes the show's ever had. I could think of almost nothing to say of it after the episode was finished. A big part of it is that I feel like we didn't learn anything interesting about Kiki or Jenny. We find out that Kiki is a bit of a pushover, and that Jenny kind of takes advantage of Kiki's genorosity, but doesn't complain when Kiki puts her foot down. Compared to episodes like "Frybo", the character conflict is kind of dull.
Bringing the discussion back to the Diamonds. I don't want the Diamonds to have a Token Good Teammate. However, there's no point in Homeworld having multiple leaders if they all have the same personality. I'm hoping they're all villainous in different ways. Perhaps some of them will dip into Blue-and-Orange Morality. For example, maybe one of them won't hate any Gem that tries to be more than they are, but genuinely not understand why a Gem wouldn't be satisfied with doing what they were made to do. With the corruption weapon, you could have Yellow Diamond doing it solely out of spite, wanting to destroy Rose no matter how many of their soldiers get caught in the blast, while Blue or White could be more "You made us do this, Rose!!"
Now that I ruminate on it, a good portrayal for Pink Diamond would be to have her be friendly and genuinely appreciative of the Gems under her, but to have her view organic species as being like insects, and not something to be concerned with. I could it see her and Rose having a good relationship, but when Rose starts to question the morality of what they do and says "Maybe we shouldn't be wrecking these planets and wiping out the native species", Pink Diamond just responds "Oh Rose! You kidder, you!
". She could be an Evil Counterpart to Rose, showing what she would be like if she had never grown out of her alien mindset.
Yeah I like the idea of pink diamond not being good, but someone who cares for Gemkind's to the extreme

i would have said the same but i was afraid to
moved to Oceanstuck because this handle was starting to bother me my tumblrFrom all indications, I don't see how Bismuth's going off the deep end had to take place before Pink was shattered. Some fans started calling Rose a hypocrite, but I think it's perfectly inline with her character. She betrayed her Diamond for the greater good, and never wanted to purposely shatter a Gem ever again.
I would kind of like it if creating bubbles were Rose's idea, or at least Pink's, and used them to subdue and contain Homeworld Gems they captured.
From what Garnet's said, Rose didn't exactly take pleasure in the deed. It remains to be seen if Steven will keep his non-violent approach, but I really appreciate that the show doesn't present what Rose did as entirely a bad thing. Sometimes, especially in war, there's no good or just solution, only the best you can do. At any rate, it's more than most Batman adaptations delve into.
If it wasn't for Amethyst's finally bubbling something on-screen for the first time, I would've thought that certain gems like warrior types weren't able to bubble.
Omni-sexual?

I think the projection of human groupings onto these aliens is more ethnic than racial.
I.e. Bismuth as Jamaican and Garnet as African-English.
