moved to Oceanstuck because this handle was starting to bother me my tumblrBecause they needed help to defeats the villain.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. That would've also been nice.
But I guess he's just a little bit disappointed by how things played out.

I don't remember everything but you're exaggerating how badly they were losing. But either way, why is getting help a cop out?
I think this relates to the discussion on the other page, Garnet isn't necessarily stronger than Jasper just because she's a fusion, and a fusion of five gems isn't necessarily stronger than a fusion of two. At least not when they're in the latter's element. The fight probably would have gone differently if they were on land.

The instability of the fusion didn't matter at that point, they were forcing Malachite to stay together...both of them were just fighting for control of the fusion.
By the time she re-emerged, Lazuli was mentally drained and Jaspee was able to take total control. Malachite was never able to develop a personality or anything because they didn't let it happen.
It's no exaggeration, they were losing pretty badly...to the point of almost unfusing.

Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. That's not a cop out. A cop out is when they clearly have the set up for something and they make up a excuse to avoid doing it, which ends up being disappointing, because it goes nowhere and wastes a potential plot thread.
So a cop out in this case would be if they were clearly setting up one of those plots where the hero is depressed after being defeated and he has to overcome a challenge to win in a different fight later, but then they avert that plot and it never even starts.
The Melon Stevens tipping things in their favor would be more like a Deus ex Machina, except not really, because it's not that grandiose, and we expect the heroes to win in this situation anyway.

the melon stevens were set up from the beginning either way so it's hardly a Deus ex Machina given that their existence and capability to interfere was established from the beginning.
The spears and gliders kind of came out of nowhere though...
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Generally I associate the gems' race coding with whatever their voice actors are, though not always. Slightly biased towards Asian readings because of Mukokuseki reasons and being Asian myself though.

- Rose Quartz - white
- Bismuth - black/a really cute Lizard Folk

They did say not all of them based on actors...
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. They aren't Gems.
They're sentient humanoid rock alien bodies.
SHRAB for short.

Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.I've always seen Garnet as black, Pearl as white, Amethyst as Filipina, Rose as white, Lapis as Latina, Peridot as Middle Eastern (her hair just really reminds me of a hijab for some reason), Jasper as black (with vitiligo), and Bismuth as black.
It's really cool seeing the races everyone interprets the Gems as being if they were human! It's kinda neat how much variation there is. Most of the Gems are pretty ambiguously racially "coded" (as opposed to just looking white with a paint job), which I've always found cool.
Amusing acronym.

When we're done, there won't be anything left.Racial coding isn't something you can just pretend isn't there. Different species or not, Garnet is still a copper-skinned woman with an afro, thick lips and wide hips who dances in a traditionally African style.
Also Amethyst constantly reminds me of various Latina girls I've known throughout my life, so I always begged her as Afro-Latina of some sort.

Malachite's fusion was unstable due to hate, so they used a Laser Light Cannon esque-super arrow.
My various fanfics.
