Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.I think I have a few theories of my own regarding what happened to Pink Diamond. It's true that she was the reason the war started, but I think it was because she was the first among the top brass that showed interest in keeping the Earth alive.
If the murals in the Moon Base are any indication, Earth was supposed to be the first colony that Pink Diamond would have with the other diamonds holding higher status due to having more colonies (with White Diamond at the top since she has the most colonies). It was going to be business as usual, but something happened that made PD consider keeping the Earth alive, but the other Diamonds weren't having any of that.
Maybe it was how Rose who caused the change of heart, but the Diamonds didn't want her alive if she was going to get all soft for one planet, especially one so rich in gem-making materials. PD would be shattered and Rose would be framed while another Diamond took over colony construction, and that would be it, but PD had a means of transferring her power to other creatures, including other Gems. Before Pink Diamond bit the dust, she did something to give her power, her essence, over to Rose Quartz, who would carry on a rebellion to protect Earth in keeping with Pink Diamond's wishes. The ability to transfer power like that would also explain why a simple Quartz would have abilities such as healing tears and, as of Steven's appearance, dreamscape powers.
Cut over to present day, and we have Steven, who possesses his mom's Gem, and Lion, who can teleport across the planet with ease. Chances are, Rose was able to transfer some of Pink Diamond's power/essence over to Lion, who would eventually guide Steven and pick up where Rose left off, but this was only started after she got a glimpse of events to come via Garnet's future vision.
That's my theory, anyway.

Also Lazuli...don't forget her.
Garnet needs a surplus of focus now.

Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Part of the saturation of Peridot and Amethyst I imagine has to do with the fact that they are respectively the Sixth Ranger and the main gem with the least focus in the early seasons.
All of P-dot's focus was during her redemption arc, which just sorta happened all at once.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Honestly, I strongly dislike the idea that Rose did not actually kill Pink Diamond. They spent like three episodes building up that revelation and letting Steven deal with it. Revealing after the fact that, no, sorry, she's actually innocent, would be an absolute cop-out. What's even the point?
The more I think about it, the more I appreciate the fact that the show, despite its endless optimisn, has approached the tenet of Thou Shalt Not Kill with a tad more nuance than is common in the genre. Stories like Batman tend to take a stance nearing Black-and-White Insanity toward the issue where it's insuinuated that if, say, Batman kills the Joker, then he's inevitably going to go over the edge and murder every single criminal he ever comes across.
This show at least acknowledges that killing one person for the sake of many does not put Rose on equal footing with the people she fights, and that having killed a tyrant does not make Rose a hypocrite for not wanting to resort to Bismuth's suggestion of mass murder.
Pearl and Lapis tie for my favorite.
Third favorite is whichever has my attention at a given moment.
moved to Oceanstuck because this handle was starting to bother me my tumblr@Dousgh: I have to wonder though whether the circumstances under which Rose shattered Pink Diamond are as clear cut as we might assume; the fact that the others gave her Un-person status lead to many people wondering whether she'd actually been the Token Good Teammate of the diamond authority, and that theory about Pink becoming corrupted somehow and Rose being forced to shatter her doesn't really undermine anything.
In fact, I'd be dissapointed if Pink Diamond's story was just "lolevil, therefore killed dead and the others decided to cover up her existence because pride."

Peridot's probably my favorite with Steven at a close second, then Lapis. And I can never decide between the 3 main C Gs cuz I love them all.

Which is saying something, coming from Randomness.
My various fanfics.
