I think it's fair to say that about most big fandoms.
My thoughts on shipping: I have no problems with shipping whomever you want in fiction, just don't hate others for shipping differently, and don't get mad if your ship doesn't pan out. People who ship Real Life people though, disgust me on a fundamental level.
I just limit my fandom interactions to this board and a few others. There are moderators, and the people here are good about not being assholes. The tumblrs and other outside links have been looked at and vetted by people who aren't vicious shitheels, so I feel fine clicking on them. Which is why it's always an ugly surprise when I hear about this horrible shit.

Just watch the show and stick to these threads for discussion. If you can't avoid the fandom on Tumblr completely then just limit yourself to the artists or people you know from other fandoms who are casual fans of this show, they're way less likely to embed themselves in the SU fandom's own drama.
On an unrelated note I am worried something like this is going to blow up in the Voltron fandom that given there's a similar sort of one-sided shipping war (people already saying that if one of the characters ends up in a gay relationship with one dude over the one that they wanted it's queerbaiting and promotion of pedophilic/abusive relationships on behalf of the creators) and one of the voice actors is in a precarious situation like Zuke's due to some casual shipping jokes he made early on, and has already made statements about not to ask him anymore shipping questions because he's just a VA and not in a position to answer them.

Don't let the fandom ruin your opinion of the show. It's a really good and entertaining show.

"The cruelest thing you can do to an artist is tell them their work is flawless when it isn't." -Ben "Yahtzee" CroshawI tend to stay far away from the fandom outside of cool fanart. Its always relatively easy to enjoy a popular show and stay away from its fandom. Then again I've gotten used to this kinda thing.
I was kinda on and off untill Lapis first showed up, then I was pretty much hooked.

Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Let's get away from this. Talking about it more will only make this thread more unhappy.
Seriously, all this aside, Lapidot really is a cute ship I've grown quite fond of. Hopefully Peri won't have to choose between her two great loves. With how open the Gems are though, I wouldn't be surprised if Amethyst was just fine with sharing.
Also, meepmorps.

Is it fair to say that shows that try to be both progressive and accessible to kids and adults tend to attract the kind of people that can obsess over it, to the point where they harass the creators themselves for not making it the way they want?
