My understanding is that people were also attacking her for "queer-baiting" Lapis and Peridot, by teasing the relationship even though it isn't canon.
But as mentioned earlier, we shouldn't really blame shipping, because that's not really the cause of the issue. The issue is online harassment, and blaming shippers won't make it go away. Websites like Twitter need more ways to block people and hold people who attack others responsible.

"These two characters interact in an episode in a friendly manner! That is queerbaiting!"
How. How on earth is that queerbaiting?! Lauren Zuke depicted two characters who live together having a goofy relationship, and she gets harassed for it. I genuinely don't understand this fandom, or how so many people completely miss the show's message of "you should accept people and their differences".

I wasn't blaming all shippers, but I'm sorry if the way I worded my commentary made it seem that way. I'm honestly just annoyed at all that really loud Vocal Minority of shippers who think it's okay to harass people because of their ship.

When we're done, there won't be anything left.Nevertheless people need to sit fandoms as a whole down and explain to them that they really need to stop appropriating political terms for something as mundane as shipping.
It's like people who use cultural appropriation to smear people who ship a pairing they don't like by trying to gatekeep their ability to make content for that character at all (if you ban white people from writing stories about Black Panther altogether that's a hundred fewer people who could've potentially paired him up with Black Widow or Bucky), or people who accuse pairing two adults who met way past the age of majority of being pedophilia because there's an age gap of more than two years between them. Or the people who complain that it's fandom gatekeeping for the staff of a show to tell people to not take ships so seriously that you harass the actors personally
.

Sigh, very first comment is accusing them of making attacks on queer people for the crime of asking for basic decency and decorum. Why. I'm glad they were able to sort it out, but what the hell kind of tunnel vision mindset allows you to even come to that conclusion in the first place.

I just logged on to Twitter, and it's not just cartoon showrunners talking about this
. (Linking to his account because he uses multiple tweets to talk about it all)
Even the writer of Detective Comics is weighing in.
Also figure I might bring this article back
if it hasn't already been posted in these threads already. Because oh, what timing.
As I've said before, for once I'd like to have a fandom for a popular show not turn out to have an incredibly venomous Vocal Minority ruin everyone's fun. I mean it was bad enough when militant fans were harassing fanartists for not drawing certain characters the way they wanted
Anyways, for those who still don't know the upcoming schedule, here are the next few episodes along with their summaries and airdates according to TV Guide
:
- "Buddy's Book": Steven visits the library with Connie and uncovers a long lost book. (August 18)
- "Mindful Education": Steven and Connie learn to focus better. (August 25)
- "Future Boy Zoltron": Steven tells people's fortunes at Funland. (September 1)

GUNDAMU GUNDAMUIgnore the trouble-makers, the wasted effort only makes you tired.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.I, honestly, have never even heard of the term 'queerbaiting' before now and, based on the definitions, it doesn't sound like a term that really has any right to exist. The first definition is just people getting angry over Ship Tease, and the second sounds like an out-of-universe version of Bury Your Gays, which I can't see much deliberate usage of in any form of media.
More like Hide Your Gays and Bait-and-Switch Lesbians. The only inarguable instances of it I can think of all involve Japanese media which has a whole bunch of issues of its own when it comes to LGBT+ representation. The second definition that article provides has never, ever been a context in which I've seen the term used, although any instances where it actually happened I can definitely understand why there would be an uproar.

GUNDAMU GUNDAMU

Because "queerbaiting" now means "The ship I don't like is becoming canon and I DUN LIKE IT! WAAAAAH!"
When we're done, there won't be anything left.
