Hugging a Vanillite will give you frostbite.I'm guessing finding the Rubies will be as simple as Yellow Diamond noticing they haven't reported in yet, rolling her eyes at their stupidity, and sending a scout gem to collect them. We know they can survive in space indefinitely (and somehow talk, too) and gems seem to have really good detection tech, if the Crystal Gems tracking down Steven in the vastness of space is any indication.
How will Stephen ever get out of his space bubble predicament?
Will he ever re-unite with the Crystal Gems?
Will Stephen return to Earth safe and sound?
Yes!!!

Otherwise he doesn't need a large supply of breathing supplements.

Aside from the Gems having more resemblance to AI than organic life, it'd work thematically, too. White Diamond was the first Gem created, as an advanced AI, a builder, a weapon of war, ect. only to turn against her creator. Against her "intended purpose."
And then she built an empire filled with Gems that have to fit their intended purpose, or be purged.

I feel like "It has no functional purpose! It just makes me feel bad!" scene should be meme, but I'm not sure what should be used. Terrible shows? Emotional stuff like Undertale?
Also, it's really, really stupid but I kinda want to see SU tribute with/based on this.
The latter, clearly. The positive route.

I've thought about that too. At the moment, we really don't know what's going to be driving the plot forward from this point on. I don't think that's been the case since before Mirror Gem.
Note that Eyeball (and Jasper) remembered orders to return to homeworld with the Ruby Quartz intact.
They did not know that this is the required McGuffin to recreate Pink Diamond.
Also in C&R Peri poofed by gentle crushing, but this is before she learned to focus her powers to reinforce her projected form.

Garnet's "gentle" squeeze (with fist larger than her target's torso) poofed Peridot because she's just that strong.
Every time a non-corrupted gem was poofed, it was not from something mundane like being crushed under a pile of rocks: getting stabbed by Holo-Pearl (which seems just as strong as the real Pearl), hit by a destabilizer, crushed by the Slinker, etc.
