I know that the Rubies were looking for Jasper, but them coming back from Neptune the same time the Shorty Squad went to the Beta Kindergarten was completely coincidental. Resolving one wouldn't affect the other.
I'd expect a show with a tendency towards Breather Episodes to have at least one in between two separate loose threads.
"The cruelest thing you can do to an artist is tell them their work is flawless when it isn't." -Ben "Yahtzee" CroshawFirst it was Malachite and the Cluster, now it's Jasper and the Rubies. Granted, Jasper appeared in a few episodes during the season, but I thought she would stay a recurring villain into season 4.
If I'm being honest, I wish the show paced itself better in terms of its overall plot. I love every one of this show's character moments, but it seems to rush interacting with its antagonists.
Malachite was weird, but I'm not bothered by the Rubies coming back. We haven't seen what's going to happen the next episode, and besides, the Rubies aren't near as interesting as Malachite, the Cluster or Jasper, so I'm not bothered if they get dealt with a little more quickly. It helps that Steven had to take care of the Cluster immediately after Malachite unfused, while Jasper's immediate situation was completely resolved before they brought the Rubies in. The transition doesn't feel as abrupt.
Are pronouns going to be an issue with any Steven fusion? It feels weird how every just keeps defaulting to "she" and more or less erasing Steven from the equation. I remember that also being an issue with Stevonnie before they clarified that Stevonnie is a "they".

It just seems like the obvious assumption, because of precedent.
Edit: I don't want to be "that guy" who comes off trying to go "men are really the ones being marginalized" or whatever, but that strikes a cord with me for some reason. Not really a big thing, just a little gnat.

Maybe we were wrong to call Garnet a "she" in the first place. I just realized they use female pronouns with Garnet in the show, so what I said doesn't make sense.
Or maybe it's that inter-gender fusions (i.e. fusions with Steven) are referred to as "they"s.

Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Well, both of Garnet's fusions are "she" so it would be weird if Garnet wasn't. That applies to all fusions except the ones that Steven is a part of.
It just seems kind of weird to assume his maleness is overwritten, since we know it's not the case with the other fusion we've seen him do. If anything it's more like a blend, or maybe a new identity all together.

Yeah I'm sure they is the right pronoun but I don't wanna police pronouns before we have an official pronoun.
The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing.I sense a pattern. Human, Gemstone, Human...
He will next fuse with...Peedee.

Isn't it weird that this is the second time two unconnected plotlines get dealt with back-to-back?
