In agreement with this. Gems aren't really like humans in this regard, it's perfectly possible to render a gem incapable of causing any further harm without "killing" them (and that's apparently not what shattering them is anyways, it's worse).
Do wonder though...we've only seen the shards reform back into limbs, could they also end being disembodied heads? That'd be some freaky stuff, we don't have enough of that.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.
x5 She's not the only character with flat redemption qualities, just the only re-occuring character with none of them.

After she got captured...in her first appearance she struggled to be an uncaring product of her society.

Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Well, not exactly. After the first few episodes she started being more weird and goofy. Contrast how Steven treats her in "Friend Ship" where he wishes her a good weekend versus how he describes Jasper as awful.
I guess the thing with Peridot is, try as she might, she never succeeded at any of the awful shit she did, and that makes it incredibly easy for a villain to be redeemed or at least sympathetic (Blackarachnia and Waspinator from Beast Wars are good examples of this, respectively). She tried to kill the Gems numerous times, but she was also silly and had outrageous reactions to things and had a funny catchphrase. If Bismuth popped out of her bubble then chances are that nobody would hold a grudge over the "she was literally about to stab Steven and kill him" thing, because it didn't work.
Jasper, meanwhile, clearly takes great joy in destroying the Gems when they arrive, headbutts Steven unconscious, pressures Lapis into fusion ("Just say yes" ain't exactly subtle), stalks Lapis after unfusing, blatantly preys on Amethyst's insecurities over her size, mocks Steven for fusing with Connie, and is now capturing corrupted Gems to build an army. She's continually doing things are played as genuinely horrifying and awful, whereas Peridot did bad guy things and got beat up until she stopped being bad.
I mean, the creators say she is a member of the main cast with more depth to show but does that really mean that she will be part of that as an ally or could it be as the most recurring antagonist with her own issues that get explored without actual redemption?
