I'd like to point out that talking about the latest episode when half the thread hasn't had any legal way to watch it is also kind of rude. I get that it's unfair that NA didn't air it yet, but talking about an episode when a lot of people haven't even been able to watch it is unfair to the people.

Which is why it's perfect talk for the Spoiler thread- which is traditionally used for leaked episodes and promos, (since it does spoil things about unaired episodes), though the latter isn't as big of a deal as an episode that hasn't aired yet.

[up]Well said. I mean there were those episodes that aired in France officially but we kept talk about it in the spoiler thread.

Plus this isn't like "Coach Steven" or "Steven Floats" where the foreign broadcast is months ahead. At most you're just being asked to hold off on any discussion about one episode for an extra three days.

I figured it would be a spiked targe or a parasol.

It's interesting how Centipeedle's gem is her actual eye. Eyeball from the Ruby Squad has a Gem in her eye socket too, but it's styled like an eyepatch so I didn't think she could actually see through it. Centi's actually functions like an eye - it moves, and - while I don't think we ever see it dilate or anything - she can do stuff like cry through it.

I wonder if it was like that even she was normal - it doesn't feel like the sort of thing that would just happen during corruption, given how unique the placement of a gem is to that Gem. I'm imagining being a cyclops a/la Leela or something.

Having just gotten around to watching Bismuth and enjoying both the episode and the character, but the implication that apparently the Crystal Gems have never genuinely killed any Homeworld Gems kind of bothered me. Just that you could have a war in which genuinely had not killed any of the other side seemed rather nonsensical and a bit to convenient. Then again I guess with how Gems function I guess it makes a little more sense in universe that they could do that, still feels a little convenient.

All gems are different in what it takes to cut or break one. Diamonds are really hard to cut but are very easy to break. And they are also flammable.

I don't think the Crystal Gems never shattered any Homeworld Gems. The impression I got was that they never did so on purpose, as a method of combat.

On top of the likely accidents over the course of a war that long, the Diamond Authority went from four to three somehow, and "Rose was Pink Diamond" seems pretty solidly debunked now.

You've gotta be really, really stretching for the Pink Diamond thing now with what we've known. I've been against it since day one and it contradicts almost everything we've ever learned about how Gems work.

KnownUnknown Since: Jan, 2001

[up][up] I agree. I think it's less that the Crystal Gems never killed anyone and more that Rose was against the use of a weapon that could only kill and nothing else. A while I back I compared it to humans using a nuke - we have lots of things that can blow people and property up, but that's considered a step too far. For Gems, who don't die normally, are difficult to shatter in their normal forms, and are expected to be the same for a long time, even simply dying is something incredibly severe.

It really comes out in the difference between her and Bismuth's take on the war. Bismuth, evidently, wanted to march to Homeworld, take out its leaders, kill everyone who opposed them and force them to adopt their demands. But Rose seems to have wanted to change Homeworld and foster its potential to be something better, not conquer it and put herself on top.

Unless I'm misremembering something, shattering a gem isn't exactly the same as killing them because the shards still have some level of conscience and are in pain, desperately trying to get back together.

So Bismuth's weapon in that regard isn't even murder but A Fate Worse Than Death, so it's understandable to me that Rose would find it way too cruel.

[up]That doesn't normally happen; that was because of Home World's experiments. Normally when a Gem is shattered, that's just it. And even Home World's experiments weren't really "alive".

Some people probably remember this post, which shows the orange snow monster is probably Biggs Jasper. Well, "Biggs" was also one of the gems Bismuth said was her friend. Maybe it's not the same one, but it's interesting to note.

[up]Gem shards always have "partial consciousness", that's how Frybo and the cursed scroll were made. But being reduced to such is treated as equivalent to death, not worse.

[up][up]I thought those were a special relic or something and not shards from an actual Gem they shattered. That makes the episode even creepier.
