I'm saying that as it is now, it has Unfortunate Implications. With the only two hard butch characters we've seen, both are violent extremists. As things are now, it's a bad implication.

Honestly I'm kind of uncomfortable arguing about this because it feels like I'm singling Smokey out on this.

The context with Bismuth was wanting to end a war though. That's a little more morally ambiguous than just being a psycho murderer.

Yellow Diamond and Blue Diamond, both of whom are not butch, also don't seem to have a problem with murder.

Guys, can we please drop it? I can tell this is only going to escalate right now, and I'm getting bad vibes.

Personally, I never got the feeling that Bismuth was really a bad person. I got the idea that she was genuinely well-meaning, but hit the Cynicism Catalyst hard after being thrown into the chaos of war and seeing how brutal the Diamonds were willing to be.

The context with Bismuth was ending a war though. That's a little more morally ambiguous than just being a psycho murderer.

Yeah...when the episode did its "big reveal" my reaction was kind of "Oh, is that all? That's not so bad." She wasn't nearly as immoral as I expected her to be.

Loves feel-good animation a whole lot.

But all of the women who are hard butch have attempted to commit murder.

There are other reasons Smokey's reasoning strikes a bad cord with me, but I'll leave it alone if everyone else does.

I really hope Bismuth comes back and is "redeemed" (I put quotation marks because it's not like she's not on the C Gs' side, she just had some extreme ideas). I mean, come on, if Steven could redeem Peridot, he can definitely convince Bismuth. I hope she comes back.

When we're done, there won't be anything left.

[up][up] You can't just police a discussion because you personally find it uncomfortable.

I don't really think Bismuth is a violent and murder happy extremist like Jasper is, Bismuth is nothing if not complex.

I don't think they should have bubbled her again at all. They should have waited for her to regenerate, then had a calm discussion about it all together. I think if all the Crystal Gems discussed the problem together Bismuth could have been calmed down, and I don't even like idealistic endings. Part of why Bismuth went berserk was because history, which to her felt like a day ago, was repeating itself in a horrifying way.

It didn't seem a bit off to me that they decided to keep her bubbled instead of talking to her some more, but I guess they'll save that for later.

Basically, what [up] said.

It does seem like it should be possible to reason with her...though she was throwing a fit and trying to murder Steven at the time. And presumably trying to murder Rose way back when.

Yeah, I hope they can talk to Bismuth later, calmly, when Bismuth doesn't feel like she's basically reliving the argument she had with Rose. I think she can definitely be reasoned with, it's just that no one really tried (because everyone thought she was dead, gee thanks, Rose. tongue)

When we're done, there won't be anything left.

Being bubbled doesn't seem to give a gem time to cool off though, while regenerating does. So I think they should have talked her down together after she got stabbed.

Probably doing it that way was more of an issue with the limits of episode time.

I think they mentioned something about Bismuth being in the fall? It was either Ian or Rebecca who mentioned they were excited for her music, which kind of implied she'd be singing.

Yeah, it really does seem odd that they are keeping her bubbled rather then talking about it, but I guess they just wanted to keep a pin in her until her next stop on the plot train.
