Hrm. I'm kind of frustrated by this episode.
So far two big, muscular, masculine presenting/butch ladies have appeared on the show, and both are bad people who want to murder people.
It's reaching Unfortunate Implications.
Bismuth's hardcore, but I worried she'd turn out to be a secret traitor or something. And then there's her conversation with Steven leading up to their confrontation- was Bismuth testing Steven, trying to figure out if Rose was still in there, or was she genuine about liking Steven's pre-battle rituals and trying to be friends with him?

I wouldn't say Bismuth is a bad person. I think she saw war was hell and wanted to protect her friends and kill the Diamonds at any cost.

I've seen some Discourse going around Tumblr.
I have a feeling this is going to be a rough episode from the fandom.

Oh God! Natural light!I actually feel for Rose a lot, because I've been in a leadership position before, and being expected to make the "right" decision when everyone has different opinions is really hard. It makes you wonder and feel guilty about what you could have done different. You don't want to let anyone down, and you don't want to make the wrong decsion, but by making a decision when opinions are split you always let somebody down. I never had to chose anything on this scale mind you. But I can imagine it, and I wouldn't wish that on anybody.

Saying Bismuth is bad flat-out is kind of an overreaction...there's clearly some sympathy there.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.![]()

That makes me wonder, did anyone tell Bismuth Steven couldn't be poofed, and would die if he was injured? Not that that makes her Freak Out much better, but I think she was being triggered for a lack of a better word and rushed to defend herself prematurely because of what happened in the past.

Oissu!Bismuth's character is deeper than that and supposed to be tragic. Saying that because things ended badly it's Unfortunate Implications, seems like ignoring what was actually going on and how deep it was, to just look at the surface.
It's how you eventually get things like Magical Negro.

Yeah Bismuth is presented as misguided and not bad.
I wonder if she'll ever interact with Peridot. Living proof that bubbling in the long run leads to useful recruits with useful information.
The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing. When did Bismuth show herself to like murder? She thought violence, and eventually killing, was necessary because of the trauma of things.. It's not at all as simple as "She's butch so of course she's violent!", her character was treated entirely organically.
I understand being on the luck out for Unfortunate Implications, but stuff like this is why I can't take Tumblr, as a whole, seriously.
