I'm not saying they should give us a whole episode's worth of info on the Diamonds. I just think the viewers should know something about the Big Bad before they actually pop up in the story. Peri essentially had to give Steven a crash course in who Yellow Diamond was in "It Could've Been Great", literally the episode before her first appearance. I don't think the gap between basic info and when that info comes into play should be so small.
Sorry to dredge this up again, but I felt Coelasquid's thoughts on Jasper bear listening to.
And if one person's opinion doesn't matter, keep in mind that she does do work for Cartoon Network, including one of the SU comics.
I'm sorry but I just don't see that as a problem at all. If the show was all about fighting the diamonds then I could see why not giving us more info on them would be weird and bad writing, but it isn't about that. The C Gs are not currently fighting the Diamonds, just protecting earth from Homeworld. They seem to have no interest in taking the fight to them. Right now the Diamonds aren't even involved (or heavily involved at least) in the conflicts on Earth so I don't understand why we need to know about them yet. There's probably a good reason why we don't know about 'em yet.
Look at Avatar, we didn't even get to see Ozai's face until season 3 and he was the big bad through out.

Information pertaining to what exactly? We know they hate organic life, which is pretty much us. We know that they created all the gems, that they were involved in at least planning the gem mutants / the cluster, and that something did is the cause of the gem corruption. I can't see anything else that would be "basic" information. And I don't see why we shouldn't know what they're fighting against? Seems to me like we have plenty of info to know that they're clearly a threat beyond what the Crystal Gems are capable of facing right now.

Just the one comic that I'm aware of, but she does animate other CN shows. Not sure which ones, though...
I thought this was interesting: Why the show wants you to hate Jasper
TL;DR the animators are using classic propaganda tricks to depict the Quartzes as your basic evil horde- they all look the same, wear concealing helmets, don't talk, etc. They kill the Earth just by breeding. Jasper's first episodes involved her yanking the smaller Lapis around.
But Alone At Sea revealed that Lapis was tormenting Jasper, and Jasper misses sharing headspace with Lapis. And now we've got her speech to Amethyst, that shows that Jasper believes in her role as a warrior as deeply as Peridot used to believe in her role as a technician and Kindergartner.
From what I can see of Jasper's fans is that they like that she represents something other than the traditional female in looks, voice, and personality. Honestly I think people see the potential in her character if she was a good guy, which I can see and would make for an interesting character on the good side.

You mean like basically all our heroes? Like, she doesn't seem special in that regard for this show so that seems like a weird reason to latch on to her.
Like I said, nothing against you for that, but I just can't do that. Really, in this case I don't think superficial is so much an insult as it is a statement of fact. I'd be more willing to hold it against you because Peridot is super annoying.

That tumblr post I linked addressed those questions.

Me and my friend's collaborative webcomic: Forged Men![]()
Look, I don't know exactly what it is about Jasper that makes her stand out against some of the other characters of the show in regards to some of the fandom, but apparently she does. I don't know why fans like her so much and want her redeemed but they do. And I'm just going with it because I'm starting to see some potential in Jasper's character myself and honestly I can see them going with that option of redeeming her.

Just watched Crack The Whip. Jasper's totally a Silver Age supervillain now, just like Peridot was amusingly (albeit more of a brute/conqueror type than the deathtrap/funny type). Also, that was an epic "The Reason You Suck" Speech from Jasper. Poor Amethyst (but on the other hand, I swear if the next episode is a "Amethyst is depressed and takes out her bitterness on Steven" plot I'm gonna lose some of that sympathy). Also, the glitching when she reformed. Ominous...
I hope they aren't building up to Steven and Connie becoming Stevonnie whenever they do something epic in the future. The show seems to be pulling them in that direction, but I really like it when the two of them do great things together without necessarily having to fuse to do it - the two of them against Pearl in Sworn to the Sword is still my favorite action moment with either of them.

Obviously they can. I just don't think they should. Partially for my on reasons and partially because the reasons I'm hearing don't really hold up to me but those are different discussions...
One last thing I will say is that creators can love villains and make them complex characters too. It doesn't mean they should eventually make the heroes.
Edit: But anyway, I'm not even the one who brought it up again.
