I don't think fusion has any direct parallels with the human experience, nor do I think it's meant to. There are some broad parallels to any sort of close relationship, but nothing specific. I think the Crewniverse just uses it as a device for morals pertaining to a lot of different things, which encompasses romantic relationships and possibly sex.
Fusion is all the relationships, it should only ever be seen as all.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Lets face it, people are just too obsessed with sex to see fusion in a more innocent and or ace aro way. Sure, Fusions that involve Garnet are kind of sexy/sexually charged, but Stevonnie is just either 2 innocent kids dancing or just, like I said, Digimon Style power up that happens when the kids feel a deep emotional connection with their Digimon—-Errrrrrr—Each other.
As long as this flower is in my heart. My Strength will flow without end.
Well, it would make sense for a show with a central theme of love and relationships to have some kind of metaphor for sex. And fusion is the most kid-friendly way the show could get away with it.
So, Jasper is officially the new Arc Villain. I wonder how it's going to get resolved, and if it'll even get resolved by the end of the season.
My fear is, since this show's only problem is its pacing, that they'll rush a resolution without fully fleshing Jasper out as a villain, sort of like how Peridot was relatively two-dimensional pre-Heel–Face Turn.
I doubt Jasper will get solved before "Bismuth", but I hope they give her more characterization before she gets defeated or Put on a Bus again.
"The cruelest thing you can do to an artist is tell them their work is flawless when it isn't." -Ben "Yahtzee" CroshawIf Jasper isn't involved in whatever the plot is between "Bismuth" and the season finale, she doesn't need to be Put on a Bus, that's a short enough time that she could plausibly be between attack attempts.

When people have sex, they're basically sharing the most intimate parts of their body with each other. When people fuse in Steven Universe, they're intimately sharing their entire body, which includes the intimate parts (if they happen to have any). The parallels to sex are there. Especially in the case of Stevonnie, who more than likely has genitalia of some sort (since they can get hungry and presumably still has human organs and stuff). I can't help but wonder if Stevonnie ever has or ever will look at themself naked. I mean, if I was in their situation, I know I'd do it out of sheer curiosity alone, and I'm asexual/aromantic.
My point is, there is an undeniable sexual aspect to gem fusion, especially when it involves human beings and not genderless space rocks. It's definitely not the only aspect of fusion, but it's still there, even if it'll probably never be addressed onscreen.

I've got Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash, Spyro, and Paper Mario fanfics.Ruby and Sapphire have the most basic relationship.
Did you know that it was based on: A Healthy Relationship between two people?
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. So I was just thinking about how damn powerful Rose was. If we assume that it was Rose's shield that prevented the squad from being corrupted (which I think is a safe assumption) then Rose has a weapon that can be used as defense against the Diamonds. And no other gem does, or they would've saved themselves as well, presumably. She's the only gem that we know of that has any defense against the Diamonds. That's a Story-Breaker Power right there.
It might've been the bubble, a shield wouldn't deflect sound like that...
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. It would have to be able to solve all of the plot to be a Story-Breaker Power. Rose's shield isn't so powerful that it could do that. Quite the opposite actually, because her war story ended on a Pyrrhic Victory. And it actually created more plot, because it's the reason the current story-line exists.
Speaking of Rose, I came up with a theory as to what what Rose Quartzes were made for, if she's not Pink Diamond.
Between her healing tears, her bubbles, her Gem weapon being a shield, I think Rose Quartzes were designed as medical and defensive units, and with Rose rebelling, Homeworld ceased production out of spite.
Also saw a cool theory about how Lapis Lazulis were interplanetary scouts. I'm also wondering if their hydrokinesis and Rose's power with plants had agricultural purposes, like maybe they used organic ecosystems in conquest before turning planets into Gem colonies.
Yeah if Rose's shield hadn't existed we'd be watching "Slice of Lofw show about beach dwelling humans. Series finale? The world inexplicably blows up"
The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing.

But I understand that. tell that to those people not me.
