Well it's not even that, she's only out for Lapizuli...though I'm not even sure how she expects to find her every time. This was just a lucky break.

Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.@Blue Blaze 64, @ xanderiskander: So you'd prefer to not see her punched into the stratosphere? Because in all likelihood, she was about to permanently poof Steven for "ruining" her "relationship" with Lapis.
Also, I was reading reactions to the episode on the AV Club, and this caught my eye:
Would we consider that a Space Whale Aesop?

Previously known as "71TheRoman". Wishes his password wouldn't forget who he is...No, I just think her character arc could be abridged. I don't think they needed to spend so much time on set up just to have her rant, and get punched off the boat in the last 3 minutes. They need to stop beating around the bush, and get to the point already.
Basically I think Jasper's plot has bad pacing.

I'll be honest, I think they don't feature villainous characters enough. Peridot was the closest to being a full character before her Heel–Face Turn, but everyone else only has a few minutes of screen time at best.
I feel like the showrunners know they do Slice of Life best, so they try their best to get the major conflict out of the way as fast as possible. Again, it's the only thing I think is wrong with the show: They seem to know how to make every character, their backstory, their flaws, their motivation(s), and their redeeming qualities, but don't quite know what to do with them in terms of an overall plot.

"The cruelest thing you can do to an artist is tell them their work is flawless when it isn't." -Ben "Yahtzee" CroshawI will admit, it has the same erratic sense of focus the resolution of Malachite did. There are still ten episode left in the season, though. No reason she can't resume her walk on the ocean floor and have some plot action in the climax.
Or, yeah. That's a better explanation than what I was doing.

They don't mix Slice of Life and Plot very well, a consistent problem to be sure.
I remember someone complained that Malachite's formation didn't accomplish anything story-wise but writing Jasper and Lapis out of the show for a while. I hope they don't feel that way now.
Lapis did good and bad things. I maintain Lapis forming Malachite and keeping them together was a pragmatic decision, even if it wasn't the smartest idea—Jasper was almost certainly going to kill Lapis if she refused or let them break apart without them both being unconscious. What was wrong was Lapis deliberately making Jasper suffer for the sake of revenge, but she at least admits that and considers it a bad thing.
Not everything Jasper did was bad, but none of it was good, just neutral at best. She was victimized, but that hasn't given her any empathy for others. Despite claiming to have changed, you don't hear Jasper apologizing to Lapis for treating her like crap and practically forcing her to fuse—really she just seems to have changed her mind about Lapis being weak.
Even if both sides have faults, one can definitely have the moral high ground.

Is the public lack of resources on Homeworld just a way to prevent rebellion?
The thing with liking Jasper out of spite is I've seen easily 1 in 10 people that don't try to paint Jasper with a white brush. It could be that I'm not looking in the right places, but the vast majority of cases I've seen her mentioned usually takes her side.
If anything, it's developed my own backlash.
I've been thinking about going through the character pages to make the spoiler marking more consistent—specifically, I would only leave markings for events from the current season, not 1 or 2.

Jasper is terrifying—that's enough for me to like her as a character. Any depth of character I basically consider a bonus.

I'm neutral towards this "Jasper" character...she's completely neutral.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.I don't think this was what they were talking about when they were talking about there being more to her we haven't seen though. It may sound like I'm annoyed, but I actually was pretty entertained by the episode more than not. And I prefer this direction they took with them, rather than just making them suddenly happy together out of nowhere.

So you guys like Jasper ironically, pretty much. Not really anything about her personality.
I mean, I like plenty of antagonists because I like to dislike them. But I think liking a character because their character-arc is lacking something, especially information about the character, puts you on an almost certain road to disappointment. Because you don't know enough to even make a proper guess, about what the writers will do.
