[up][up]Whatever it was, a weaponized Villain Song sounds like an awesome concept.

The cluster seems like their answer to the gems that survived the corruption boom anyway, so there would be no need to use it again.

[up]a bunch

Rose being considered the leader of the rebellion in Garnet's story seems to imply Pink Diamond was out of the picture by that point.

Isn't there a long-standing theory that Rose is Pink Diamond? Or has that been debunked by now and I forgot?

I guess even in that case, if Rose stopped using that name, then in a way you could still say Pink Diamond is out of the picture.

I can see Yellow Diamond bringing out the weapon again once she finds out that the Cluster didn't destroy the Earth.

I wonder if they need all three Diamonds to pull that off, though. I still think White Diamond is that thing from "Serious Steven", so I'm not sure if we'll see it again if that's the case.

Actually, if that is White Diamond, I wonder how she got stuck on Earth. Maybe she was fighting Rose or something, then Yellow Diamond ordered the retreat (maybe to seize power?), and White Diamond was stranded like Centi.

You know that makes me think of something. We know Lapis wasn't corrupted, because she was in the mirror right? So the corruption boom only affects gems that are currently formed. So then, what about gems like the sand glass, the heaven and earth beetles, and that diamond shaped gem in Serious Steven? How are we sure those are corrupted gems? Maybe they were all placed in objects before the corruption happened?

I bet Steven's dreamwalking will come in handy when trying to heal corrupted Gems... since the problem is with the mind.
He'll just until they sleep! Wait...

(He could talk to the Cluster anway, he doesn't need dreamwalking.)

I wonder why they didn't just use Earth as a kindergarten as originally planned after all those pesky Crystal Gems were (supposedly) wiped out. Too many bad memories? At least they got a cluster out of it.

He seems to be able to access the minds of gems without them sleeping. Malachite probably didn't sleep.

It's likely the cluster was already incubating by the time they left. The likely reason is they wanted to destroy the entire planet so no evidence of the rebellion or anyone questioning their authority would exist.

On the one hand, the Crystal Gems were still there — or, at least four of them were. Given that "Rose Quartz and her terrifying renegade Pearl" were The Dreaded already, four might have been enough to stop them.

On the other hand, they don't seem to have known this. So that probably wasn't the actual reason.

Maybe they were waiting for the vicious gem monsters to wipe each other out, leaving only the calm ones — Centipeedle's crew were left totally alone since their corruption and seemed docile enough anyway.

... Wait, when did the Cluster get installed, anyway? It was a plan B sort of thing, so it couldn't have been too far in advance. Maybe they finished it just before launching the corruption wave?

Unless making/using that thing was so resource intensive that they really could not afford to use it then and can now even less.

The likely reason is they wanted to destroy the entire planet so no evidence of the rebellion or anyone questioning their authority would exist.
It was more a question of "why use the Cluster when we can already wipe the enemy out with the weapon we have".

I wonder why they didn't just use Earth as a kindergarten as originally planned after all those pesky Crystal Gems were (supposedly) wiped out. Too many bad memories?
Possibly it didn't take effect instantly.

Maybe they finished it just before launching the corruption wave?
It was definitely planted before leaving.

They probably never came back to Earth after using the weapon because it would be crawling with corrupted Gems.

Was that the same ship from "Friendship"? If it was, how did they not notice the Centipeedle's the first time they came by?

1) Because they knew about Rose's shield. Jasper does. I don't see why they wouldn't.

2) Because they don't want any gems to return and defect after rediscovering the history they want to erase.

Either way It's the Only Way to Be Sure.

They used the exact same background art (I know because that was my desktop background for a while), so I'd say yes.

If it was, how did they not notice the Centipeedle's the first time they came by?
It's a big ship, and they're all in one room.

The corruption wave only works against Gems. The Cluster would be large enough to rip a planet apart. Not just Earth, but any planet that the Diamonds sicced it on. I don't know what circumstances there are that would make the Cluster preferable to using the corruption wave, but those are the differences.

So do you think it's safe to assume that Centi was on Homeworld's side in the war? She was only seen reporting to YD (at least I think that was YD) and the Crystal Gems don't know anything about her until they read what she wrote. If that was the case, the CG's were probably too sympathetic, given how much she's suffered, to be mad at her for fighting for Homeworld

That seems to be the what her story was about yes.

I don't see why they'd be mad at her about something that happened so long ago, especially when she's corrupted like that. There's not much a point in blaming her.

I'm thinking that the Cluster wasn't really supposed to wipe out the rebellion (its growth took thousands of years, after all), but rather a weapon to be hatched and then used.

I would presume that the Cluster's incubation made Earth unsuitable for further harvesting.

[up][up] That does seem to be the case. I love how we're getting all these pieces of the story - we saw Lapis' POV of Homeworld's retreat from Earth, now we're getting Centi's.

So when they went there the first time they went the long way around?

Seems more likely that the place has become a little overgrown since they left.
