I guess it was more Steven!Lars's dialogue and expressions that made him seem more oblivious or naive to me than what he was actually trying to do. Trying to be nicer to Lars's parents, friends and on-again-off-again girlfriend while inside his body seems like a very Steven thing to do, but it was more what he said and how he said it that seemed to me like it was out of character.

Plus, having Steven face no repercussions aside from feeling bad for upsetting Lars seemed a bit odd.

I thought The New Lars meant we were getting a new Lars, literally or at least paving the way to become one. Lars (besides Kevin) is the only douche in the show and I really want to see some character improvement from him. I also dont like the fact that Sadie keeps forgiving Lars every time for his attitude, she and Steven always do that and Lars won't get better if they keep brushing his behaviour under the rug, that his parents seem already resigned to this and tiptoe around him also doesn't help.

Ya know its episodes like that, which make me realize Ronaldo has a very real point that the citizens of Beach City shouldn't be so apathetic to the Gems antics. I can understand not much is able to be done bout the monsters but they shouldn't be so fucking nonchalant bout some of the other stuff. I mean Steven accidently body-jacked someone & there getting mad at the victim for it. Its kinda fucked up.

Trans Lars theory masterpost. It came up in the thread the other day and this post happened to cross my dash so here you go.

Pretty thorough and good post that I agree with for the most part, and I'd love it if it was true, but it reads a little too "my headcanon is irrefutable fact" in spots for my comfort, considering that kind of attitude has frequently led directly to cyberbullying over perceived differences in opinion in the past.

I'm not sure if that stuff was intentional on the part of the creators of the show (but considering how progressive the show is, it's entirely possible they're trying to slip it past the radar), but I do find it interesting. There's enough evidence for a headcanon, but hopefully flame wars don't break out over this like they did with "trans Samus Aran".

The part about him insisting on the name isn't that unusual to me, because I've had a few friends who like to go by their last or middle names, just because they don't like their first names and it sounds cooler. Doesn't really indicate anything other than he wanted to shorten his name to something snappier to me. At least for now.

Well, that's why it's a theory. They took pieces of evidence (such as wanting to be called Lars instead of Laremy) and looked at potential reasons for it. This is one potential conclusion you could reach.

You'd think it'd be a completely different name...

It is odd that Lars chose that name despite the shortened name for Laramie being Larry, and Lars being short for Larson.

I wonder if there's a reason.

From a creator's standpoint I think that's mostly because Larry is a funny sounding name. It's a name you give to goofy characters, not so much grumpy ones.

Like that one time on Pinky and The brain.

Larson's an actual name? That's just swell.

Randomness is just lucky with nickname choices.

They were just saying that Lars is short for Larson and not Laramie, not really calling him that.

Isn't Lars a proper Danish name? I've never heard it as short for anything.

Honestly, Randomness, your "stephen quartey universe" "jaspee" "lapizuli" "larson" routine just makes your posts sound weird and people question your autocorrect. It doesn't make you any more likable than the content itself would. It doesn't make you more original or individual. It just makes you look like a naive, childish "penguin of doom" as it were.

Random doesn't always equal funny.

Please don't take this post as a personal attack or a sign that you are not good at posting in general, I'm just better at criticising things that have been bugging me for a while than making people feel better.

Maybe it's the same situation in that one episode that focused on Mandark in Dexter's Laboratory: He was raised in a very loving house to be a very sensitive person, but outright rejected it, and tried to become the opposite of it. I'm surprised he didn't become goth.

And yeah, Larry sounds like too funny of a name for a character like that. Lars works better.

[up][up][up] If you're googling it, then a lot of those name origin sites are pretty bogus from what I can tell. They make things up or are just inaccurate sometimes. I'd take them with a grain of salt.

Also, Laramy sound like embarrasing name so is not surprising he use lars as it sound "tought"

Anyway, I saw "too short to ride" and...is ok, I like the animaton, that the "I haven sleep in 6 days!" or Onion being little sociopath crack me up(I love dark comedy) I reflect a lot in Perdiot being atach to her tablet and the whole "Clod,Clod,Clod" also nice worldbulding about homeworld, so they are getting short of resource? how? mmmmmm

Anyway, im looking new lars and so far...I dont like it, I feel....weird how Steven being so boundry touchy here(in fact I think he JUST figured out Sadie and Lars have something) and the fact he just use Lars body like that feel....awfull, but I dont know why.

And about Steven having flaws....yeah he have one, is his rush judgment, Steven have this issue of really jumping into conclution very quickly, lets take a look:

-When Garnet talk about future vision, he freak out and pretty much react the scene of final destination 1

-When Connie lie, he pretty much got alone with it

-The whole issue with Onion, to the point he knowlage as such(granted Onion is sociopath but that is another thing

-In to many birthday he mistake the values dissoance of the Gem into existencial crisis, granted he didnt know about her power but even them.

-In the test, after knowing the whole crystal spiral was a test he freak out, even when gem point out he was getting better and suprasing their expectation(granted, pearl phrase that poorly)

So in short, Steven is rather impulsive and jump to conclution a lot, but is not a terrible flaw to overcome like Pearl co-depence or Amathyst lashing out so is not going any time soon
