I'm leaning more towards the anxiety thing than unfusing. Stevonnie didn't unfuse immediately after their first hallucination thing at the dance club.

Oh really when?

The thing that makes it clearly defusing to me (beyond us seeing them defuse due to disagreement) is the dialogue during the scene just before it goes black, where Stevonnie immediately recognizes what is going on - that is, that it's going to stop the race - and she (Steven) tries to convince herself (Connie) that they shouldn't stop now, that they need to do this, etc.

Whether is was defusing or an anxiety attack that caused a defuse, she's clearly coming undone during it and trying to stop it.

With this episode and "The New Lars", I'd hate to say it, but it seems like Steven is suffering a case of Ping Pong Naïveté.

Maybe the episodes are in the wrong order?

His attempts to make Lars' life better is very similar to him attempting to get Lapis to like Peridot, as in he believes he knows what is best for everyone, and tries to make it go that way. It just didn't work for Laramie.

[up] But in "Mr. Greg", he knew just what to do to get Greg and Pearl to talk about what needed to be talked about, and it turned out great.

It seems like he knows exactly what to do in some cases, but has no idea in others.

Can we agree that Steven uses the same approach everywhere, and that its rate of success depends on how much the people concerned love him? Pearl and Greg couldn't love him more: he is their son in every meaningful way. Lapis and Peridot love Steven because he showed them kindness and acceptance in times of great distress and despite them hurting him time and again. Sadie and Lars are just casual friends of Steven at best: to them, he's not family, a samaritan, or a redeemer.

[up] Could you please just link to that video, and not embed it in the thread? I'm one of those people who really tries to avoid spoilers for these things, and even seeing the thumbnail, regardless of how little it shows, really frustrates me to my core. Nothing against you or anything.

Now then, catching up with the rest of the thread while I was MIA:

I'm so happy Austin's taken time out of his schedule from slowly being brainwashed by Bray Wyatt to pose for this picture. Still waiting for him to get a cameo at some point.

A_dude, you think binging this thread is bad? I binged the goddamn One Piece thread! I know your pain.

It's Roman. And I wouldn't know about the One Piece thread, haven't kept up with the story for a couple of years now.

Peridot literally got a new superpower in "Too Short to Ride".

More like realized she always had this power, but never thought to use it. What else could be controlling those magic fingers from way back in the limb-enhancer days?

Also, I bear bad news. I checked my TV listings so I can record SU episodes in case I'm needed elsewhere, and the entire week of August 1-5 has We Bare Bears in the 7 PM timeslot. I'm getting the feeling some people may have jumped the gun on the length of this "Summer" of Steven, maybe "Fortnight of Steven" is more appropriate now. tongue

Maybe instead of Steven Nuke, we should reclassify it as something with a little less oomph...Steven Missile?

Technobabble, I'd assume. Peridot notes that the technology focus and related stuff are made because Gems in her era aren't supposed to have powers. It wouldn't do for Homeworld to then provide Gems with tech that works by utilizing powers they're not supposed to have.

@Known Unknown: I thought this was a discussion the thread had already talked about—the idea that Homeworld suppressed later model Gems having the same abilities as their predecessors by directly telling them, "Yo, we need to make some budget cuts. You can't do these cool things, so have some weapons to compromise."

But Peridot's manipulation of her floating fingers (making a touch screen, simply bending them) was her subconsciously using her kinesis all along. It was just that being told by her leaders, "You're incapable of doing this cool thing," surely they are right, because why would Peridot ever consider the thought of her leaders, the gems she followed to a fault, as being wrong or lying to her back in the day?

I just think it constitutes an interesting way of breaking out of a placebo and discovering you are just as skilled as the people you hang out with and look up to, albeit in a different sense.

That's not a final schedule; you can tell by how none have episode names.

Matt Burnett has repeatedly stated this is going to the end of season three, which means 21 episodes total.

wild mass guess Connie's diamond eyes (compare with Steven's star eyes) is because she's yet another spy sent from HW by Blue Diamond.

As apposed to tech that simply does that without needing metal powers to work? It's like how Iron Man's suit can project holograms (depending on the writer) or use vid-screens similar to Peridot's. They don't do that because Tony has photokinesis, they do that because its a function of the suit.

Peridot's limb-enhancers had a lot of interesting gadgets built into them. It make more sense for the fingers to just be one of the major doodads it gives her access to.

Again, it doesn't make a lot of sense for Homeworld to spread the message that new gems don't have powers, and then give them tools that require them to use powers they aren't supposed to know they have. They could be lying, but it's not a lie that makes a lot of sense either: it'd be less needlessly reckless to give them limb enhancers with regular hands if that were the case.

[up][up] You never know...

Granted, I don't think schematics for any of the enhanchers have been released, so whether or not she was pushing buttons to do certain tasks isn't available right now. And I'm shit at arguing my case, so I won't bother further.

[up] Wait, could you talk to Flowey at that point? I still haven't gotten too far in the game, but I didn't hang around that balcony long enough to check either.

Regarding Kevin... Steven hates Kevin more than any of his other adversaries, because unlike Jasper or Yellow Diamond or the monster of the week, he can't just sic the Gems on him smile

As for Peridot's powers (or lack of them) do you think that's why we never see Pearl shape shift beyond regeneration? Homeworld didn't see the point of Pearls shapeshifting, so they didn't program them to. It would give Pearl and Peridot something to bond over.

[up][up]Well, Pearl said that that all Gems can shapeshift, so I think she just doesn't consider it a "proper" thing to do.

Yeah, but Pearl also said that she couldn't shape shift in "Secret Team" when Garnet grabbed her. But... the only reason she mentioned it was because Amethyst asked if she was able to shape shift and get them out of there, so probably not the best example.
