I don't enjoy Lars episodes. He's just not at all an appealing character to me. This one in particular went in a direction I NEVER predicted (in a bad way), and is quite possibly the most nightmarish of the Lars episodes yet. If I had to take something away from the ep, it's that Lars' life is more harrowing than I thought. He's failing school, he's living with his parents who clearly regret what he's become and he has trouble making friends. Thank god it ended on a light note.
I took Jasper calling Pearl "defective" because she rebelled, and asserted herself as her own Gem. Pearls aren't supposed to do that, so she is labelled as defective. Much like how in the Antebellum South, there was a belief that if black slaves ran away, that they had a mental illness. Because nobody in their right mind would run away from a loving master.

So was Jasper. I respected your tactics! But this is sick!
Wicked sick, in fact. An unstoppable, dominating, beyond-godlike ownage. With, hopefully, zero kills.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. There's a delightful ambiguity with the word defective.
Could mean someone with a defect, not right in some way.
Could mean someone who defects, rebels.
Or it could be both things. Defective because they defect. Their defect is their defection.

Dunno, ain't watched it, but like the question. The idea is plausible, as Rose's ominous position relative to Steven in the extended opening suggests. I'm sure her plan is benevolent, but she's shown issues letting other people's feelings get in the way of doing what she wanted before...
Was anyone else expecting Sadie to ask Steven to prove that he was actually Steven by saying something only Steven would say?
I think she just wanted to experience what it was like to be human, and becoming Steven was the only way. Nothing more, nothing less.
All this speculation seems like finding hidden motives where none exist.
"The cruelest thing you can do to an artist is tell them their work is flawless when it isn't." -Ben "Yahtzee" CroshawDid anyone else notice that Sadie owns a copy of Caligula?
You know, the famous por- oh, wait, it says "Caligula The Documentary." So it's probably about the Roman Emperor, so it's safe for kids. Unless it's a documentary ABOUT the movie.

Caligula was actually a well-acted, well-written movie. Then the producer filled it with porn in post-prod. The result is a very boring porno where the excellent actors look like they Took the Bad Film Seriously.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.Or maybe in the Steven Universe's alternate history, Caligula was a cool dude who all children should aspire to be like.
I assume that Rose has no conciousness. Although Rose existing as Steven is a little tricky to define.

Lapis is gen 1 though. She was around during the war, and knew what homeworld used to be like.
