Oh man that episode was really adorable, and hilarious to boot. I wonder if, since Peridot was so sure she doesn't have powers before discovering her telekinesis, maybe she can shapeshift with the right mindset, it's just that Homeworld culture upbringing never allowed her to think outside the box in a way that would let her.

That's what I'm saying. Era 1 and Era 2 peridots don't really have any reason to have different bodies, because their job is more technical / intellectual. Other gems do the heavy lifting and fighting and stuff.
It's more likely that the only difference is in what abilities they have, like Peridot stated.

Since all Gems are meant to serve a specific purpose and only said purpose...none of them have any reason to look different from past timelines
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. Why would she? She's already a Peridot...that's peridot enough.
Unique enough.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.I have a character in an RP with magnetic powers... now I'm gonna imagine him doing that reeling thing whenever he uses them.
Granted, I've seen it both as telekinesis and magnetism; both kinda make sense.
Me and my friend's collaborative webcomic: Forged MenI point out that Pearl's likely weren't designed with weapons in mind either. So it's likely that Gems can do things beyond what they're core design says they can.
The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing.So Peridot's twitter (I love this show) says she can move metal with her mind. No mention of magnetism; it appears to be telekinesis that only applies to metal.

I thought Steven said "mental powers", but given that post and the ideas for uses he gives (removing staples, opening jars), he probably did say "metal".
I hope we figure out the difference, because control of metal and control of magnets are different tropes.

Given she didn't wipe the tablet, it appears to be the former. Still resonates with peridotite's magnetism, though.
Also, someone pointed it out on the tearjerker page, no wonder Peri was so indignant about Pearl being good with tech. Still Fantastic Racism, but there was a reason behind it.
Me and my friend's collaborative webcomic: Forged MenOh, hey, I wrote Magnetism Manipulation's description. Huh, I forgot I did that.
I think Magnetism Manipulation is a supertope so I guess it's fine for Peridot to be an example for now? Someone already put her there.

Anyone else disappointed that Ruby and Sapphire weren't a part of the shorty squad?

Me and my friend's collaborative webcomic: Forged MenPeridot's attitude in "Back to the Barn" had a strong overtone of "This in the one thing I'm supposed to be good at, dammit!", but this shifts it to the even sadder "This is the only thing I'm not designed to be terrible at!"
