I don't think wearing a Fry costume is something to be so melodramatic about.

He just wanted to actually work at the restaurant, not be a mascot.

So, in one of the episodes they mentioned that these enemies they have been fighting are corrupted gems. Are they just gem creatures turned hostile or is it implied that they once too had a humanoid appearance?

Also, without going into too much spoiler-territory, will i find out the cause of this, as well as the decayed state of many structures belonging to the gems?

Yes to the structures but you gotta pay attention and pick up on the background clues. No the origins of the corrupted gems.

They were once normal gems like Garnet, Amethyst or Pearl but something happened. The show hasn't said what yet.

We don't know precisely what "being corrupted" means, but those Gems almost definitely Sapient, human looking Gems in the past. We still don't know how or why these gems were created, but there is a theory that's supported by one of the most recent episodes. As for the Gem structures, well, there used to be way more Gems on Earth, but now there aren't and the buildings and stuff have fallen into disrepair.

We will learn about how corruption sets in, it's coming up...eventually.

The decayed state of the structures is pretty obvious, they're old and abandoned because the only gems left on Earth are the three Crystal Gems.

If you rewatch "Monster Buddies" Centipeedle actually looks humanoid for a few moments while she's regenerating.

So yeah, they were once living, humanoid, occasionally breathing Gems, then Bad Thing We Don't Know Exactly What happened, and only Rose, Garnet, Amethyst and Pearl escaped the corruption.

[up] Weren't the gem mutants also former Crystal Gems? Unless they were corrupted too. It does seem strange that some gems were corrupted and some became mutants, in this seemingly 50/50 split. Maybe there was some overlap?

The mutants were basically small-scale (roughly 7 orders of magnitude smaller) versions of The Cluster. Shattered gems, still sentient, forced together as part of an experiment.

I just had a thought - Where does the Crystal Gems' income come from? In the first episode, Pearl mentions that they paid for the Cookie Cat ice cream, and obviously their household has plenty of food and video games and whatnot. And I thought it was implied that Steven's dad was really poor (He's living out of his van, isn't he?). We never exactly see any of the Gems holding down a day job. Where does their money come from?

[up] Greg financially supports Steven. That's why he lives in a van. The events of "House Guest" are a lot Harsher in Hindsight once you know that

Greg does seem pretty content in his van though. He's a simple man.

I'm sure he does sometimes but he really does just seem like a happy simple guy who's fine with living in a van and running a car wash.

Guy's great.

[up][up] I just sent that to my sister. That is a very accurate representation of us. She's a dancer and gymnast who can do crazy contortion and is working on a "100 push up challenge" (in which you do 100 push ups in a row) I...can't do that

Holy crap, I hadn't even considered that. Man, it's like every single aspect of this show has some horrible hidden implication behind it. This show sucks you in with the cuteness and then breaks your heart...

I feel like it's kind of mean that the Gems don't let Greg live in the house he built even though there's plenty of room. I mean in House Guest it seemed like Greg believed he needed an excuse to live there, so I don't think he's really happy with the situation.

Greg seems to be the same kind of bumbling dad you see in like every animated show and sitcom ever but he's actually not.

#33921: Jun 28th 2016 at 8:26:26 PM

[up][up]It may not be that simple, because Greg at the beginning of the series didn't seem interested in "Gem" stuff only really getting involved due to Steven.

I'm 90% sure none of the Gems would care if Greg lived with Steven. He just doesn't want to be too close t the magic alien stuff (anymore. I mean, he was pretty close to some magic Alien stuff before If You Know What I Mean).

He is patronized by the gems a lot. So even if they wouldn't physically kick him out, he might not be comfortable living there

Also dangerous. Greg is a human, and even Steven is more durable than him.
