Also, I don't think the objective of NGE was the plot. Since the backstory was mostly in supplemental material.
The objective of NGE was Shinji (and other characters' to a lesser extent) emotional journey.
That's what Anno was most interested in.
Edit: I guess its fair to complain if thats not what you wanted out of the show but you have to admit that you were only there for godzilla

With all of that "Hail Hydra" nonsense, that brings up an interesting question:
What would be considered a "weak twist" for Steven Universe to have, that is possible with the information we've been given so far?
"The cruelest thing you can do to an artist is tell them their work is flawless when it isn't." -Ben "Yahtzee" CroshawSome contendants here in my opinion:
- Peridot betraying the Crystal gems after all the character development.
- Pearl being a spy from the diamonds (yeah, or x crystal gem anyway, like captain america.)
- Homeworld explodes without reason.
- Jasper gets a Heel–Face Turn WITHOUT character development.
- The Diamonds are Good All Along.
- Ronaldo is actually on Yellow Diamond's side.

Confirmation that Steven was right and the Gems really do resent him.
Finding out that all the characters are lip synching.
Learning that Home World was good all along.
Revealing an even higher ranking gem than Diamondo.

Well yeah, it's the system, not those caught in it that are seriously messed up.
The idea of anyone on the CG betraying the team just sounds profoundly stupid. There's nowhere for them to go, and they'd only serve to burn bridges.
When you get down to it, a lot of "fan theories" seem shocking for the sake of it and don't have much to them. There's the occasional good one, but those are one out of a dozen.
Still, with enough Wild Mass Guessing, the dart's likely to hit the target sooner or later.
It's like back when Monk was on, and some people wondered if it would turn out Da Chief was responsible for the murder of Monk's wife. Would have been quite a shock, but a betrayal like that would be way too dark an ending for a show like that, and screwing up such an enjoyable character... no, just, no.
(Though I suppose a lot of those theorists knew what I didn't at the time- that his actor was also Buffalo Bill- and so found it easier to picture.
)
I don't think it's going to be revealed that all of the Crystal Gems resent Steven and his existence...
But I definitely think there's going to be an episode where Pearl just breaks down and admits that (at least) part of her wishes that Rose never met Greg.

I would like that by the end of the series, Greg and Pearl could become friends after character developmente and get along pretty well. (No, I'm not talking about that, not everything is shipping.)

Forever liveblogging the AvengersWell, I think Pearl has already mostly moved past her resentment/negative feelings about it. She had that scene with Steven about "what would she even think of me now?" And "well, I think you're pretty great".
Plus we've seen that she and Greg are patching things up and have become closer (such as working on the van together).
Yeah, althought in Chille Tid is revealed that Pearl might still have some grudges against Greg, but I think she can still work in those issues. Really, I kinda dislike the Ron the Death Eater threatment that Pearl receives. She's flawed, but she's not evil or an unlikeable jerkass.

Some fans tend to treat characters who can be pretty intentionally flawed or/and abrasive at times with the Death Eater treatment. Pearl getting it is no surprise to me. She may not be my favorite of the C Gs, but I do think she's a really interesting character and it's a shame some fans give her the Death Eater treatment.
My Tumblr "If theirs one thing I'm good at, it's blowing" Jesse Cox 2013I wouldn't say that Pearl voicing her resentment is a twist, more a type of character development; Admitting to herself that she's buried some feelings for Steven's sake, then learning to let them
As far as twists go, Doug Walker brought up after watching "On The Run" with his brother Rob, that he thought the show would slowly reveal that the Crystal Gems actually are (or used to be) the bad guys, and were just stuck on Earth, trying to get back to Homeworld. And that the monsters they were fighting used to be gems that were protecting the planet from the likes of them. The only reason they looked like the good guys, he said, would have been because of the visual aesthetics, and that the show was from the perspective of someone being raised by them.

@dreamofwritting: Comparing Steven to Shinji is completely unfair. Shinji was perfectly capable of taking down external threats and defeating monsters.
