Studious Girl
The first two part episode (episodes 25 and 26) is considered the unofficial "real" start of the series
Episodes 52 and 62...respectively, based on what
said.
That's not unofficial, that would actually be official...considered so even by the Crewniverse.
The unofficial start would be the pilot.

Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. They just said they were 15 episodes in.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Yeah, until mirror gem and ocean gem the show have vary vauge plot: take monster and steven wandering around doing...dunno, there is when the plot start
"You mean they accept any and all praise...because it fills the ego beast?"
People have complicate relatioship with being cute, they love the complement about it as long nobody said the work
In short she wants the ego for being cute...just NOT being call cute
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"Mirror Gem and Ocean Gem is where the lore starts kicking in, and from there the story starts tying together various threads from earlier in the season to start making sense, so that by the time the first season ends your jaw will literally fall so hard it will tear through the earth onto the other side and into low orbit.
From there the plot sort of sinks down to normal (not because plot, just because that's where they shoved a ton of episodes that couldn't all fit into Season 1), and then kicks back into high gear and it really doesn't stop.
Hey don't oversell it. Hype Backlash is starting to kick in for a lot of folks that haven't caught up to the show yet. Which is why I'm glad I was caught up when "The Return/Jailbreak" just came out within two days.
I think that calling the Jailbreak two-parter where the real story starts is drastically misunderstanding what the real story of Steven Universe is.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersAnd anyway, I think they're just saying it's hard for new people to get into the show starting from the really early episodes, because Early-Installment Weirdness. Which was the case with me too. I didn't really get into a lot of the early episodes. I got into the show more after they aired Mirror Gem and Ocean Gem.
That meme about the tone change of SU is still so fitting.
Season 1 Episode 1: Steven misses his favorite snack food.
Season 3 Episode 5: Steven and the Crystal Gems play baseball with a group of dumb evil Gems to protect their fugitive friend.

Long live Cinematech. FC:0259-0435-4987I meant, the slice of life episode are still there, what it change is main plot: first was monster catching, them peridot and jasper arrival, them catching peridot and now the cluster
Even hit the diamond bring the homeworld thread, just in comic manner
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"Slice of life episodes are cool as long as they don't have painful Idiot Plots and don't completely neglect the existence of the gems. I, for one, want more of the small dork being a dork around beach city
I wasn't saying that the plot got necessarily deeper, just that all of those slice of life goodies started to really hit the emotional payoff. Even in anime it feels very rare to see a show that really balances the slice of life with the lore so well, even if it sometimes doesn't work perfectly. Usually most shows focus on over the other, but I can name quite a few slice of life episodes that I genuinely enjoyed. And it has the advantage of being able to flesh out a wonderful cast of characters that you actually care for when shit goes down, so you're more concerned for their well being overall. Their failures and their successes feel a lot more personal.
In this case, the slice of life episode serve to show steve strongest(him being the heart and considerate) and his weakness(rush jugdment in general) it manage to hit the tone of the series and dogde the whole "Shinji sindrome" which usually trouble series like this
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"What happen when series filled with action fight have non-action guy or someone more conect with feelings: they call him weak, a pussy and other less gentle insults, I name for shinji the protagonist of evangelion and ofter acuse for being a spinless wreck who never do anything, as question why people hate him so much(chararter like him are really hate here in latin america, which is one of my reason I leave the anime fandom and join this forum) I said one of the reason is because he was meek protagonist in mecha series.
In short, Steven dosent have this because the show have episode dedicate to him and how usefull his kind and sensitive heart is and why we should care his strugle, that is not a easy thing to do
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"That non-action guy has to be the main character...

Or just not look badass enought, I have mantain that bassery is not deeds but actually a way of act, not surprising here in latin america people consider Vegeta a huge badass even when he a) have been worff to hell and bad and b) him being dick cause trouble TWICE, or Bastion in you gi oh GX have a lot of fans even when he only win to duels in whole series(yeah that is sad)
Or in many cases you could just look meek which is think in many anime with skinny, usually quiet protagonist that is norm in this days.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"It's better when they're the main character, so you can sit through more of their being uselessness.
Always add fuel to the argument that main characters are the least interesting.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.
Sometimes you dont have to be intersting but entrating, people said goku is rather bland hero(thanks to seinfield is unfunny) but they love him because they give good fight and is lovable protagonist
In fact I join this forum after being done with critic of Mirai mikk(who have very shinji like chararer) because all the critics where ether: "he is pussy","he is women and Yuno the men" or "he should just fuck her" I get so fed up that I pack things here where trope knowlage allow me to have more civilized conversation
But anyway im deriling right now, with SU the show avoid this by having episodes which flesh him a lot, one could said the show have to format: the Steven focus episode which have more slice of life/typical cartoon and more plot heavy/anime/superhero with chararterization and more, the first kind mantain Steven intersting and give him why he care so much for other while the second show is strenght as protagonist.
Granted at time it look like two show fused into one....
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"unknowing, i think is conversation made me realize what was the problem with Shinji and characters suffering with Shinji Syndrome.
Shows have a certain objetive (plot). Shinji-type characters are seen as slowing down that plot, and doing so in a particular way. Seen as weak (physically/emotionally/spiritually weak, varies in a case-per-case analisys, like "Can't throw a single punch"/"Cries over the most trivial thing"/"Can't get basic social customs right" etc), compare them to characters on the same series with thicker skin/more experience/physical prowess/motivation to do things. To explain better, consider how different Eva would be if Shinji could simply get in the fucking robot, such as Rei or Asuka (or Mari) do. Or it's a movie about robot-on-robot fights, give us robot fights instead of shallow human interactions.
It doesn't help that early on Steven was The Load, mostly solving problems he himself started in first place (Frybo, replicator Onion, Beat Meat Mania Garnet, etc); the Gems doing all the physical work while still having their own interesting personalities. Nowadays, it's the lore. "There is a lot of the gem history we don't know about; or the cluster about to kill everything, or Homeworld being pissed off; but no, you want to expand on personalities that are boring in comparison."
