6 but last one only aired in France so far, (which is not the same thing as saying there is no English version online.)

That's not much, it's about 5 episodes worth of catching up...four 5 episodes that you've missef.

My estimations of how Gem caste tiering goes:

Tier 3: the Diamonds

Tier 2: higher ranking Gems, like Quartz's, Sapphire, and maybe Lapis Lazuli

Tier 1: lower ranking Gems, like Ruby and Peridot

Tier 0: theoretical tier equivalent to the Untouchables, containing naturally-formed Gems, not specially designed with one single societal purpose

Pearls would be 1 tier below their masters

There could be any number of tiers between 2 and 1, considering how few Gems we've actually seen.

Note that Sapphire didn't have the Rubies under her command. They were assigned by their commander to protect her. HW seems to mass produce dumb warrior brutes and be much more careful in spawning the specialists and in the roles they assign these more sophisticated gems to.

wild mass guess Lapis was sent by Blue Diamond to investigate Earth's oceans, because she had doubts about what Pink Diamond was doing with 70% of the planet. When her spy failed to return she took a direct hand in the battle for Earth.

That...leads to a ton of fridge horror. Maybe the reason the Rubies weren't too bright is because they were made poorly because they were produced in large numbers to be expendable. Quantity over quality. The same could apply to Peridot being extremely physically weak

The first time we were introduced to the caste system, I instantly thought of Brave New World. Now the similarities seem stronger than ever

Brave New World is a really good comparison. The parallels are uncanny.

Note that Sapphire didn't have the Rubies under her command. They were assigned by their commander to protect her.
Which is why I don't think the castes are exactly tiered, rather they just have varying levels of authority and individual importance, which aren't always in proportion to each other.

Maybe the reason the Rubies weren't too bright is because they were made poorly because they were produced in large numbers to be expendable. Quantity over quality. The same could apply to Peridot being extremely physically weak
Even though gem type affects abilities, I don't think the inherent limitations are as drastic as you're assuming. Peridot is so weak because she she doesn't train and isn't even fully used to walking on her own power. The Rubies are stupid mostly because they're taught not to think for themselves. How else would Pearl have gotten so strong or Ruby have been reasonably intelligent?

I think the trick is regenerations. Pearl notably takes a really long time to regenerate. Perhaps that's because she still has to deviate from the core Pearl model and design a body better suited for combat. Peridot notably regenerated in five seconds, perhaps indicating that rushing it left her exactly the same as she was supposed to be.

I still think that dumb Ruby is a feature, as this allows them to fuse up five way (or more?) without excess thoughts distracting the fusion.

Peridot notably regenerated in five seconds,
Even if being bubbled prevents regeneration, the time in their has to count toward making a new form. Otherwise, she would have regenerated before she was bubbled to try to run away or negotiate again. Likewise, some corrupted gems are left unbubbled for a while after poofing, but Centipeetle reformed instantly.

I got one of my friends into Steven Universe, and she loves it! Her favorite Crystal Gem is Amethyst.

When Peridot woke up, she had no idea any time had passed at all, which is weird given how regeneration is supposed to work. It's like she did it instinctively rather than actually reforming herself the way Pearl and Amethyst did.

It seen bubble her have suspend animation kind of thing, as for why she regenared that fast, it could be a lot of things: she wasnt that harm enought of her regeneration is better because she is new gem.

Granted is all fanwank anyway

I blame it on the fact that she was in bubble. Or perhaps her lack of experience with regeneration. Or she's not really a gem, but a Time Lord.

[up]I approve this theory. Peridot already probably knows she's cute, but doesn't quite know at what level.
