That's 2 out of 7 total gems that are actually made to fight.
If Rubphire wasn't so good combo, Amethyst would strongest current Crystal Gem.

P-dot said it herself.
"You can do everything a normal gem can do."
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Lapis has a lot of firepower, but no physical strength to back it up. She's a Squishy Wizard. Furthermore, she probably won't use the whole ocean anymore because of Steven and her growing respect for Earth. She also has to get the water to her first; if you can catch her before she can get a large amount of water, she's very weak.
Edit: Judging by how easily Quartz typically go down to the CG in flashbacks, I say "our" Jasper is tougher than average. Pearl didn't have any trouble with Blue Diamond's guards. Amethyst could probably take on an average Quartz (including most Jasper).

You probably shouldn't judge a Quartz durability based on two Flash backs.
Especially since in one of them, they were cut down by swords...and the other one was in the middle of a war where they would've been fighting other Quartz on the CG side.
Amethyst could potentially defeat an average Quartz...that's not likely.

Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Yeah. Garnet's a lot more put together than Pearl or Amethyst, it'd be nice to give her more of an internal conflict.
It's always been notable to me that while Pearl and Amethyst's relationship with Rose is very important to their characters, we've never really gotten a sense of what Rose meant to Garnet. Awhile back someone had the idea that Garnet was something of The Lancer to Rose, and may have been more aware of her flaws that Pearl and Amethyst. I think that'd be a good dynamic for them.
Also since it's a story the fights could have been simplified for the benefit for Steven's imagination or the story. Also wasn't it more of a surprise ambush? Also since Pearl's thing is speed and skill it could be they were taken out before they could form a proper attack. There are many reasons why things could have went the way they did.
The Blog The ArtI really want more Garnet focused episodes. Hopefully now that the Barn arc is done (for now), we can get that. I want to see more of her insecurities and struggles.

Ooh, that would be interesting to see. Garnet probably would have been the Lancer to Rose. Plus we could also get a more nuanced and less glorified portrayal of Rose and learn more about her flaws.
I come back one day later to see five pages of arguing. I honestly didn't expect that.
Just to throw my hat into this ring already full of hats, I think Garnet can be best described as a character who is unfazed in the face of every kind of situation...except those regarding her one weakness. And her weakness is fusion.
The two scenarios that get her to split (Keystone Motel and nearly in Keep It Together) were being tricked into fusing with someone, and learning that forced fusion was happening and almost directly caused by her, respectively. She also nearly cried when Steven almost died twice, but that's just because she cares about him.
Is there a trope name for a character who is stoic right up until their one weakness (which is usually something emotional) is brought up?
"The cruelest thing you can do to an artist is tell them their work is flawless when it isn't." -Ben "Yahtzee" CroshawSpeaking of that, I was just listening to Something Entirely New and it made me think.
Besides realizing that that little melody at the end makes up Stronger Than You (late), I realize how emotionally youthful those two are. I mean obviously they weren't made to think much for themselves—Ruby just fights, and Sapphire just plans.
But in human years, how old do you think they're meant to be emotionally? 12? 13? Just old enough to consider their own options, but young enough to understand romance.
Pearl seemed to have a mature if dependent relationship to Rose. So that'd make her like...20-something? Almost 30...
You gotta believe me when I scare you away, all that I wish for is that you would stayI think the point of Rubies is that they're weak individually, but very powerful when multiple Rubies fuse together... which, incidentally, perfectly fits Jasper's view of fusion in "Jailbreak". I suppose it's easy to mass-produce them because of how small they are.
Gave them our reactions, our explosions, all that was ours For graphs of passion and charts of stars...In power rangers terms The rubies are Putties, Quartzes are the monsters of the episode, and Peridot is that weird guy they always have every season that makes all the monsters.
The rest are Superpowered Mooks or Elite Mooks.

Here's a list of the provisional titles
.
Some of them make me wonder if there will be more multi-episode arcs, or at least episodes that lead into one another.

Oh God! Natural light!

Which makes me wonder how the CG's will cope with Lapis and Peridot. Peridot's the same as the CG's, in that she's also not made for fighting, but Lapis is gamebreakingly strong, which is probably why she's being Put on a Bus now rather than later.
