Yes, yet Lapis was sent to Earth for whatever reason and was part of casualty damage.

◊. You'd think they'd at least have references. (Bit spoilery, but by this point, not by much.)
Noticed the tiny head, bigh hair scene...eh.
Not big deal, weird but not too distracting.

Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. What Lapis was doing there is an interesting question. She says she was just supposed to "visit" Earth and mentions being there to see everything, so maybe she was just there to survey the planet (though I can't imagine why Homeworld would need someone like that at that stage - but then again she seemed like a civilian, so maybe she wasn't formally connected to the authority.) and arrived just before the war broke out.
And while she was punished by Homeworld for a crime she didn't commit, it looks like she might have been bubbled by a Crystal Gem (either way, the Dreadlock Rasta Gem that first bubbled Lapis is now one of my new favorite random designs in this series)
On an unrelated note Peridot's post-Face-Turn personality continues to be really fun. She's practically a Genki Girl now, and I really like the "smug and arrogant, but she knows everyone knows its bull" vibe she has.

They spent a lot of screentime making it clear that Lion wasn't around in this episode, didn't they? That, plus the earlier shot of Lion's eyes tracking Steven as he walks into the barn, strikes me as significant, but I've no idea what it's significant of. Any theories?

I've moved from the "Rose is Pink Diamond" theory to the "Lion is Pink Diamond" theory. That's just my gut based on how much she's been obscured from the audience, and how little we know about Lion.
I wonder if the Crystal Gems had a Lapis Lazuli of their own during the war. That would explain why they were so god-damned sure she knew valuable information.
The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing.

Seeing how upset Lapis is seeing Peridot, I'm a bit nervous about her potential reaction to a friendly Jasper.
I'm happy with the mirror explanation. The Crystal Gems didn't suddenly turn out to be assholes, but I do find one bit interesting about it. Lapis wasn't fighting for homeworld or the rebellion. There were gems that didnt pick a side, and just wanted to avoid conflict.
And I'm kind of happy that we're getting a "Titans East" type situation with the barn. Unfortunately, this means the homeworld gems won't wind up interacting with people at Beach City as often.
