My reaction is like that of Steven; one of concern and worry.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

I find it funny how he's basically right about everything and wrong about everything at the same time. And sometimes I find it funny how he goes to extremes. But there are times where he takes it a bit too far for my taste.

I really want Peridot to meet him. Because she's naive enough to believe some of what he says, but smart enough to figure out it's not true by the end of an episode. Also she needs to meet Lars. That's comedy gold waiting to happen.

Ronaldo is funny when used in short spurts, to me.

Ronaldo getting thwacked by a rolled up t-shirt, immediately inspiring him to come up with an absurd explanation involving aliens? Funny.

Stuff like that happening for a full episode? Eh.

Who do we nag to get the Peridot's Universe episode added?

It'll be entirely about Steven imagining Peridot's interaction with the townsfolk and then changing his visual everytime she adds another detail on her story.

The Cluster wasn't always portrayed as sympathetic. Forced fusions, yes, but everyone always talked about the Cluster as a massive threat to all life on Earth.

It being a threat to all life on Earth has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not it’s sympathetic. It was a forced fusion, which, as you said, were portrayed as sympathetic.

No, Lapis didn't have justification. The Crystal Gems came to protect Steven (and their true relation to the mirror is unknown), and they came to protect the Earth, and both times Lapis lashed out. At no point was anyone explicitly going to hurt Lapis, even if she perceived it as such.

Yes, she did have justification. The fact that she perceived it as such automatically qualifies it as self-defense. If she perceives her actions as self-defense, it’s utterly impossible for them not to be, no matter what the reality of the situation is. The reality of the situation is completely irrelevant. Someone cannot act based on information they are unaware of.

Her actions were emotional based, and sure, it makes sense why she'd act like that. But it doesn't make her actions right.

Yes, it does. It being emotional doesn’t make it wrong. Anything Lapis believes she did out of self-defense automatically qualifies as self-defense and thus automatically qualifies as fine.

Is "self defense" manipulating the oceans (it's good that they sort of ignore the wider implications of that whole deal)?

Trying to escape the hostile territory of those who imprisoned her? Yes.

Acting out on anger and mistrust is not self defense.
Yes, it is.

So, all my half-crazed ramblings on this show aside, I did notice a small thing missing within the TV Tropes repetoire. I personally, would think Jasper is a Large Ham. Think about it; every line she has is either over-the-top angry yelling or growled whispers. Hell, I could hear her make the "While you were still learning to spell your name!" speech and it would make perfect sense and fit her. So, who's with me on adding her to the Large Ham page?

Over-the-top screaming?

Hmm, I guess yelling at Sapphire was a little over-the-top.

[up]I think that's just the way she talks...she's all gruff and no bluff.

@Sereg: Just because someone is upset or panicking, that doesn't excuse attempted murder. All three homeworld gems have done bad things and hurt people, and we've yet to see proof that any of them are particularly worse or better than each other.

If you think someone is trying to hurt you, then killing them is, by definition, not attempted murder. It's self-defense and not a crime at all. There's nothing to justify. No wrong was done.

EDIT: Smokey doesn't win because Smokey is factually incorrect. It's not a matter of opinion, it's fact.

Steven and Connie weren't attacking her. Therefore she was attacking them unprovoked. Being upset or paranoid is not an excuse.

I don’t hate Ronaldo like a lot of people seem to, but I don’t exactly look forward to episodes featuring him, either. I still think his high point as a character was when the Watermelon Stevens attacked him and he asked, “Steven, is the camera getting all this?” [lol]

[up] I actually like Ronaldo and Lars to a degree, but that's because I'm waiting for the moment that redeems them. Ex., Defiant Stone Throw towards Homeworld, Ronaldo charging in with the battle cry "My worldview is vindicated!", etc. But that probably won't happen.

[up][up] I dislike Lapis, but for completely different reasons than you guys are discussing. I have a history with people like her.

I don't dislike Lapis. She, Jasper, and Peridot are my three favorite characters. I just think all of them have done bad things, and all should get redemption arcs.
