She had a couple sympathetic qualities. She was comic relief, and Steven liked her. But Steven's afraid of Jasper, and we've never been given any reason to like her.
Besides the fabulous villain cape in her debut episode.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. She's only appeared twice...since the Season 1 finale.

Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. It's the creator's job to use their time well enough to make me open up to the idea of sympathizing with a character. Not my fault they spent most of it showing that character fighting the good guys and then putting her on a bus.

I think it's pretty likely Centipeetle is Chrysoprase
. The black rings on Chrysopase stones could explain the pokeball shape.
Plus they could just call her Chrys.
My view on the Jasper situation is that, whether she's Good, Evil, or Neutral, she's lawful. And unless cornered into a really, really bad situation (which we have seen her in, and she could very well be in one now), she won't lash out without reason. She's not a chaotic evil character, not the sort to start shit to start shit. She has some sense of honor, and I'd like to believe that she conducts herself highly enough to have a sense of self-preservation enough to not do something stupid for the glory of Homeworld. She has reason to harm the gems, and considering the shit she's been through an action like that would make sense, but that would more just be more of a showcase of Jasper on the ropes. What I'm more curious of is how Jasper acts outside of that. How strong of a code does she have? Interesting questions to ask, not so interesting to argue wildly about.
Lapis hasn't done the best things, whether or not her actions were reasonable for circumstance, and she is, well, dangerous. She could lash out again, which is why it's important for her to feel safe with the Crystal Gems, Peridot included. Planet-scale hydrokenesis ain't nothing to fuck with. As for how that may affect Jasper's return, it's up in the air. Safe to say though, they aren't going to meet until Jasper's in a much better state of mind, and even then it's hard to say if they'll ever be on good terms even if Jasperredemption happens (fitting with the themes of the show).
Back on topic, quartz is the most popular option, it makes sense to me. I don't really speculate too hard on gem types, because they usually tend to not be too important.

My guess for Jasper is that she'll start as a Knight Templar, and will grow into a Tautological Templar. Burnett kind of implied in a tweet about the characters Mt G colors, that she's extremely lawful, but also a hypocrite.
Also I just realized that Mask island is probably the same island that Steven, Sadie, and Lars were trapped on that one episode.

I'm pretty sure that it's literally the same island.
I don't see Jasper as a hypocrite, it's just that her moral compass is aligned to Homeworld. It's consistent, at least right now, just not really favorable towards Earth, or life, or happiness.
That being said, I do credit the show's handling of Peridot, who is basically the closest the show's ever gotten to a flat out bigoted (and, from a certain point of view, "privileged", though I hate to use the term) character in a show all about celebrating differences and diversities. It doesn't help that Peridot is the most "literally me" character ever conceived, which makes her easier to relate to, and root for, as opposed to the harsh exterior of Jasper, and Lapis's tragic backstory that implies that at some point in the distant past Lapis had the power to smile.
