Saw this on the recap page:
Anyone have a link to where the Crewniverse confirmed this?
Same.
It's been so long since Jasper had any speaking lines I was kind of surprised to hear her. I mean, aside from "youyouyouyou!" we've not heard anything from her in slightly more than a year.
I'm so happy Lapis is back. I miss Water Rock and now that we can have slice of life with the Crystal Gems plus Peridot and Lapis, this can only lead to greatness.
I want to see Jasper get development too but I don't necessarily want that to be redemption. Not that I'd mind her being a Token Evil Teammate or something along those lines, but I think it would be interesting for Steven to go up against someone he can't win over with love and friendship like lycropath said, but that this shouldn't stop him from always trying.
That might be a bit cynical for this show though, and I'm sure the Crewniverse has something great planned regardless.

The bright side to that cynical viewpoint is that he doesn't stop trying in general.
If coming to the realization that he can't change everyone or just one person causes him to just give up, that'd be the real cynical thing...it'd also be extremely naively selfish, eh?

I'm fairly sure that if this show decided to go in that direction, Steven would eventually reach that first conclusion, because this is still an idealistic show overall. It has never been wrong of him to extend people warmth, love, and trust, and it won't suddenly be wrong if one person out of the several he's interacted with aren't won over.
In all honesty though, I'm completely fine with Steven's All-Loving Hero status being the thing that actually solves conflicts. It's very idealistic but I feel like this show is both genuine enough and has the right amount of bleakness for that to be a boon rather than a detriment.

The problem with redemption, and this is seen in a lot of fiction even outside of the optimistic Steven Universe, is that their previous actions are not undone. You can feel bad about your actions and want to do better, but you still did them. When does mercy come at the expense of justice? When should you face the consequences? This applies to the Diamonds in particular.
As for Jasper, if she is being redeemed the biggest hurdle would be how they handle her relationship with Lapis. Especially since it can be read as a toxic or abusive one.

Finally watched the season premiere. 'Really late.
So I thought that after Steven bubbled the Cluster he was going to warp it to the temple. That giant ball of gem just floating in the middle of those other shards like a star in the middle of a solar system. Pity he didn't...
Well now they've got Lapis and Jasper's fallen into a crevice. Half cool. And according to those I-don't-even-know-if-they're-leaks-anymore, Lazuli's going to move into the barn with Peridot. That'll be fun.
You gotta believe me when I scare you away, all that I wish for is that you would stayGenerally speaking, the scenario that would make most sense to me is that Lapis and Jasper don't necessarily get over the bitter feelings that came from the whole ordeal, but acknowledge that they have a mutual goal so they tolerate one another. They don't become friends at all but are capable of working together if they absolutely have to.
Jasper can be like Amethyst, "scrappy"...
Take the brunt of comedic violence, that tends to be the case most of the time anyway for reformed characters.

Also I'm pretty sure one of the crew replied to a tweet saying that Peridot is a grown gem, and Steven's a kid. So I highly doubt her being 4 is word of god.

See, feeling remorse is good, but that doesn't mean you escape consequence for your actions. The Diamonds have most likely committed genocide more than once, destroyed countless planets, broken thousands of Gems for breaking bigoted laws, enslavement, and forced fusion. Them getting away with it is pretty much a slap to their victims. Now I'm not saying they should be tormented or even killed. But there must be consequence.
Mercy and forgiveness are wonderful things, as is finding goodness in people. But there is a fine line between that and "you don't face the consequences so long as you feel bad."

I feel the same way...in a way.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.

She accepted the idea to fuse in order to crush the Crystal Gems from the moment she emerged from the crashed ship rubble.
She hated being trapped in a fusion by Lapis not being able to actually use that power. So that was nothing but mental suffering of not being in control of a shared body.
Yet still calls it an abomination.
