I noticed lack of one general thread regarding Warhammer Fantasy, so I decided to create a one. :)

Not only Warhammer Fantasy Battle discussions welcomed, but also all things related to Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay (regardless of edition).

If anyone has questions regarding Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay's second edition, feel free to ask since I own most of its sourcebooks.

While I prefer the Mongolian wolf-riding Hobgobbos of Dogs of War, I can get behind these guys. A little green-stuff and they get their furry hats.

I am hoping that they do a Hobgoblin Khanate Team at some point in the future but that is probably unlikely.

The Chaos Dwarfs get another Bull-centaur as their star-player.

That is a great model for H’thark. He has a great pose and a great face.

That would be pretty cool. I could see such a team having at least one wolf-rider as a star-player. The regular team could perhaps have a wolf or two, the same way the Gnome team had foxes, geese, and badgers.

Today on Warhammer Community: Hoobgoblin Star Player Rashnak Backstabber. He looks quite nice. I particularly like his toeless boots.

I also realise why they are using Sneaky Stabbas rather than Sneaky Gitz for the Hobgoblin knife wielders. It's because, if I remember correctly, there is already a Hobgoblin only team in the lore called the Sneaky Gitz.

Besides the socks, that guy is already perfect for a Hobgoblin assassin in regular Warhammer. With the combined Chaos Dwarf and Hobgoblin team, the amount of boxes I want to buy keeps rising.

It's great how the more niche factions are getting representation through Blood Bowl, especially rare ones like the Amazons, as they offer an opportunity to convert the figures for both Old World and a skirmish-game like Mordheim. I've seen the Halflings used well for militia in the Empire, as well as Ratlings in 40K.

Another Blood Bowl Star Player: Zzharg Madeye. Love the blunderbuss design and hope that if they do bring Chaos Dwarfs into Old World with new models they will use the same design.

That's pretty much a ready-made Chaos Dwarf gunner. He's got a lot of personality, so I'm thinking of using him as another member in a skirmish squad of individual characters.

Today on Warhammer Community, what is probably my new favourite Saurus model from any Warhammer game, the Blood Bowl Star Player Anqi Panqi.

Also the Warhammer Day preview announcement has a preview preview in the form of a bomb rat which is probably for Warhammer Underworlds given the scenic base.

That Saurus looks like he'd be a powerful (and expensive) mercenary character in a skirmish game, or a mini-boss encounter. The bomb-rat is a nice addition to the Skaven and also illustrates one of the key differences in how ratmen and goblins are portrayed in fantasy games: Goblins might willingly and gleefully carry bombs in suicide attacks, cackling like the maniacs they are, but ratmen always force someone else to do it.

Triple-post: For a while I've pondered about human cultists worshiping the (Great) Horned Rat, perhaps having them rewarded with transformation into wererats. Recently I read about how the Horned Rat managed to grow in power prior to AOS, IIRC by invading the dreams of mortals and giving rise to mortal rat-cults, whose worship would empower the Skaven and give them a link to the Mortal Realms. According to what I read all these cults were pretty much eradicated by the Horned Rat and its Skaven followers, but I like the idea of Skaven-influenced humans. Especially since I today read about the Cult of the Yellow Fang and wererats were apparently a part of WHFB in the 1st edition, but have since pretty much been phased out.

As described in the Warhammer RPG, the Yellow Fang sounds a lot like the Genestealer Cults in 40K, except on a smaller scale. The Genestealer Cults are seen as the 40K-equivalent of the Skaven, so I see potential in using a highly organized mortal rat-cult in the same way for WHFB. I see this as enough reason for converting mortal cultists, either for a skirmish warband or a human unit in a Skaven army.

Hmm. I do like the idea of wererats.

True-born Skaven would never accept former humans as equals in their society, of course... but that could also be made to work. The Horned Rat views the Skaven chiefly as a means of ensuring his own power and glory, and tolerates their antics as long as they don't interfere with his overall plans because, a, they cull weakness from the ranks, and b, they keep them from growing outside of his control — classic divide et impera tactics.

A network of transformed cultists might work well with the GHR's characterization. A pawn is a pawn is a pawn, having inroads into other societies makes it easier to control them, and if the rat cultists and true Skaven hate each other then all the better — it makes it easier to play them off each other, it drives them to work harder as they compete to earn his favor, and it keeps either group from growing complacent and resting on its laurels.

According to the RPG, the Skaven find it mostly amusing to see mortals emulate them, as well as an ego-boost. This is to them proof that they are indeed the superior species, if others wish that they were ratmen. They have no greater fondness or hatred for the mortal cultists, but see them as useful for espionage and for sowing chaos in Middenheim. But they are indeeed also a great source for sacrifices to the Horned Rat.

In the RPG they are a danger on a more small-scale level, but in a skirmish-game I could see them as a warband similar to the Possessed in Mordheim. For a full-on Skaven invasion in WHFB there could be a regiment of human auxiliaries. I'd probably try to kitbash Empire Militia with Flagellants, then use green stuff to make ratlike head-gear and ornaments, with at least one fully mutated wererat as a leader. There are also lots of cool warbands for Warcry and Underworlds, especially of the individual Chaos cults and more exotic vampires.

I think Valkia might initially be intrigued by him for his savagery, but then grow disappointed in him, for having moments of lucidity where he is filled with self-loathing. Though I think she might also be disgusted by the World Eaters in general, because the Butcher's Nails might seem like taking steroids to cheat.

Huh, good observation but I do think she would be more intrigued than angry at supposed cheating.

Also pretty interesting that Khorne has one of the few if not only female Daemon princesses.

Some new goodies revealed during Warhammer Day: A new battletome for Slaves to Darkness with a Spearhead box and another brand new Chaos Sorcerer Lord, as well a new edition of Warhammer Underworlds, featuring Stormcast vs Skaven.

That Sorcerer Lord looks good, with a pose that looks a bit tired, as if he can barely lift his sword. Makes me think that the Chaos magic is wearing him down, or that the mutations underneath the armour is making him fall apart. That pose could be used to convert him into being Nurgle-aligned, with a literal disease making him feeble. Looking at his helmets gives me an idea to combine the two, to replace his teeth with the fanged mouth of his skull-helm, to make him look a bit like the Mouth of Sauron.

The Skaven look good as usual, and the Emberwatch is pretty cool as well. To my surprise I've warmed up to the Stormcast considerably in recent years, as they are very good conversion-material to make fantasy-paladins, death-knights, even Chaos Warriors. Ardorn Flamerunner looks a bit like Ragnar Blackmane, which gives me an idea to transplant the Space Wolves into AOS, by converting wolf-themed Stormcast that could be a relic of Ulric-worship in the World-that-was.

Those are all very good models. I think I prefer the skull helm for the Sorcerer. Replace the head of the staff with an spear head and he would be a good non sorcerer Tzeentchian Chaos Lord as well.

Of the WU models, I like the gasmasks on the minion Skaven and love the assassin with the throwing knives on their chest. I agree that the main Stormcast guy would make a good Space Wolf if he had a bear.

Double-post: I realized something funny recently, that the Riftforged Orcs in Kings of War are essentially Stormcast Orcs. They have a very similar backstory to the Stormcast, in that they are heavily armoured immortal warriors with Resurrective Immortality, lightning-powers, as well as carry big hammers. As someone pointed out on Reddit, this might have been possible back when Gorkamorka was still in league with Sigmar. Maybe a custom Stormcast army from the Age of Myth could feature a regiment of Sigmarite-aligned Orruks?
