I noticed lack of one general thread regarding Warhammer Fantasy, so I decided to create a one. :)
Not only Warhammer Fantasy Battle discussions welcomed, but also all things related to Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay (regardless of edition).
If anyone has questions regarding Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay's second edition, feel free to ask since I own most of its sourcebooks.
Warhammer 40,000 has its own thread here

The 'Eavy Metal team explain how they developed the paint-scheme for the new Stormcast
. They've managed really well to get a somber look to everything, as if these guys are fighting in a rainstorm. It does give the Stormcast a more Dark Fantasy-vibe than before.
Speaking of helmets, I think the Stormcast would look pretty good with the old plastic Chaos Marauder heads. In the 80's and early 90's there was a lot of fantasy art of horned helmets even on heroic characters. Like the Footmen
and Knights
of early Warcraft. The Stormcast are pretty much the equivalent of Einherjar in Norse mythology, so the horned helmets could fit their brand of being dead Horny Vikings from a past age of myth and legend.
And now we get the reasoning behind the official paint scheme for the Skaven

Double-post: More on those new Stormcast, with an interview about the design process
for making the Stormcast gritties and sadder. The musing on the Stormcast's sense of loss and borderline Death of Personality feels a lot like fiction about immortals and vampires, where a lot of tragedy is sourced from The Fog of Ages making the entity become less and less like that original living person.
Triple-post: The Old World Almanack makes a return with a focus on the Dwarfs, bot with lore
and miniatures
. I quite like Dwarfs in fantasy, but oddly enough, they are among the few factions I don't own almost anything at all of. I guess Dwarfs appeal to me more as skirmish warbands or individual figures in an RPG, rather than armies. I do have the new Blood Bowl team, which I intend to convert into characters fitting for Mordheim.
Heavy infantry and artillery are two of my favourite unit types so I have always like Dwarfs and they were my largest painted army for WFB (my largest army in all was Vampire Counts but most of them are still unpainted). Those eighties Dwarfs look quite cool. I would have been two when they came out.
I have inherited a few very old metal Dwarfs, as well as some plastic heads and other assorted bits from the 80's. While the 80's Dwarfs are very short compared to most modern minis, especially the BB-Dwarfs, the proportions could be compatible with the few Dwarfs by Mantic that I have. I also have sprues to build old plastic Squats, but they are so tiny that I'll probably use them to kitbash Ratlings.
Double-post: The Slaughter at Hel Crown has been concluded, which is celebrated with the reveal of a ton of new Skaven models
. This is a grotesque bunch of ratmen, most of whom are a nice mix of direct updates of old sculpts. At the same time many of the new figures are so exaggerated and miss-shaped, that they don't feel like they originate in the Old World, but actually come across like they exist in some metaphysical nightmare-realm created by humanity's collective musophobia. Speaking of which, I really like the new Verminlord character, who looks like a rodent-version of a Lord of Change.
I do find it curious that so many of the new Skaven are balding. I guess it is to make them look disturbingly almost-human, as these Skaven resemble the deformed man-rat hybrids seen in James Herbert and Ian Miller's creepy graphic novel The City
. Speaking of which, a lot of the redesigns resemble Miller's artwork, which would be appropriate if intentional, as Miller is an old artist for GW. The few glimpses I've seen of Blight City do resemble the nightmarish apocalyptic London seen in The City.
The Great Horned Rat, Chaos God of Male Pattern Baldness
Chaos Warriors are up next for Old World
with an army box
◊ and a lot of retuning models. Good to see the Skin Wolves again. No mention of new models though
.

Double-post: I hadn't noticed earlier that the returning Shaggoth isn't in metal, but in *resin*. Finecast resin was so-and-so in my experience, but I would be very interested in getting the Shaggoth, because I have an old idea I would like to try on the model. I hadn't bought it previously when the model had been in metal, because I wanted to separate the torso from the reptilian lower body, and then give him humanoid legs to create a Chaos Giant. For similar reasons I'd be interested to get some regular plastic Dragon Ogres, to use the upper bodies for regular two-legged Ogres. I hope the Beasts of Chaos also come back soon, because there were a few figures I never got around to buying initially.
Double-post: They have revealed more upcoming Warhammer Plus models
, with AOS and 40K each getting a pair. Marshal Ashfield and Squire Udo look really good as a command option. I don't think the Sigmarite helmet looks very good on the Marshal, but he has much panache in his sculpt, so I would give him a sweet cavalier hat, with a feather on it. The squire could be converted into a battle standard bearer.
Some Fantasy previews
while I was asleep:
Blood Bowl
: The Chaos Dwarfs
◊ take to the pitch. While I am not too much of a fan of the Hobgoblins
◊ (they look a little too much like normal goblins) I do like the Chaos Dwarf Blockers
◊ and Flamesmiths
◊. The Bull Centaurs
◊ are also brilliant. They have renamed the Sneaky Gits Sneaky Stabbas
◊ though
Age of Sigma
r: New Stormcast in the form of a named character
◊ (love the big axe), a Lord Vigilant on Morrgryph
◊ using the same kit, new Lord-Celestant
◊ (looks a bit thin but is otherwise good), a great Lord-Relictor
◊, a Lord-Terminos
◊ (with anouther nice axe), Reclusians
◊ with two weapon options
◊, Stormstrike Palladors
◊ with cool mounts that look like wingless hippogriffs, and a Stormreach Portal
◊ Faction Terrain piece. All these models look quite good.
The new Stormcast keep looking good, and they continue to have that OW Gothic bent to them, even when dressed in gold. I particularly like the Lord-Celestant with a skinned lion as a cloak. Especially the head with the page-cut and headband, because she looks like she could be Valten's sister. But I still mostly look at these figures as raw-material for conversions and kitbashing, as I see much potential in using them for Empire, Chaos Warriors, and Space Marines.
The Chaos Dwarfs and Hobgoblins look excellent! Blood Bowl keeps delivering really cool figures that could almost as-is be used for OW and other games. While I prefer the Mongolian wolf-riding Hobgobbos of Dogs of War, I can get behind these guys. A little green-stuff and they get their furry hats. I am curious to see how they might look next to the earlier Hobgrotz, if the two can be combined well into a Hobgoblin fighting force. As for the Chaos Dwarfs, I have long been eyeing Mantic's expies of them, with the intent of making a Chaos Dwarf army or a large warband. These Chorfs for BB would look like excellent commanders and sorcerers for such an army.

Double-post: The Chaos Dwarfs get another Bull-centaur
as their star-player. This is again an example of how much character the Blood Bowl models have, along with miniatures for the various skirmish games in AOS and 40K. Makes them look like they were intended for a more roleplay-heavy game, so as I would use minis from Necromunda and Kill Team for Rogue Trader and Dark Heresy, I would use the ones from Warcry and Blood Bowl for Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay. This Bull-centaur looks like he could be a boss battle in a dungeon.

Double-post: Recently I finished reading the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (IDW) comic, which offers a lot of inspiration for really freaky mutations for my ongoing Skaven army. A minor villain in the comic is a mouse-mutant who is at one point transformed into a monstrous creature, that looks like a deformed Rat Ogre with multiple limbs and eyes
. This is a design I really want to use in my Skaven army. I like the concept behind the Hell Pit Abomination
, but I have never really liked the model. I have seen some people online make really cool alternate Abominations, of which I especially like the ones that look like a huge cross between Rat Ogres and Chaos Spawn, like the Abominarat
from Zombicide. So what I want to craft is essentially a rat-themed Chaos Giant, that looks like the TMNT-villain.
