I noticed lack of one general thread regarding Warhammer Fantasy, so I decided to create a one. :)

Not only Warhammer Fantasy Battle discussions welcomed, but also all things related to Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay (regardless of edition).

If anyone has questions regarding Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay's second edition, feel free to ask since I own most of its sourcebooks.

It is kind of disheartening to see that they're reserved for the Stormcast and are only mounts at that. I had hoped for dragons to be something like an Order version of the gargants — technically their own faction, and allowable to other Order forces. It would have been nice to have a fully nonhumaoid race.

Dracothion's brood have always had strong ties with the Stormcast since day one of Age of Sigmar.

Anyway I also missed the reveal of the Blood Bowl version of Scyla Anfingrimm, making him the first model (other than the White Dwarf) to get official models for WFB, AoS and BB.

I really like the dragons, but I hope that the riders' legs aren't sculpted directly on the sides. They probably are, though, which will make it difficult to convert the dragon to be riderless, or to have a very different-looking character riding it. I'm thinking of maybe using one of these as a zombie-dragon for a Vampire Count, but another idea I'm thinking of would be to use this as one of the orkish dragon-riders in Warcraft II.

Speaking of Warcraft, that BB Scylla resembles the Fel Orcs of WOW, so that is what I would turn him into. All he needs is pair of pointy ears, different feet and for the tail to go. smile

Sure, but that hardly means they're forbidden from having ties to other groups or internal business of their own.

I had a bit of a FOMO-moment when I recently saw GW selling stuff with a "last chance" label, so I bought the box Broken Realms: Mortevell's Helcourt. It has bits for ghouls, crypt horrors and a sweet bat-like vampire lord. Besides the vampire, most of this stuff probably won't be built as intended, but I bought it because I can use the bits for so many projects with undead monsters. Like turning the Crypt Horrors into zombie-ogres. I also have enough assorted bones to go along with my Citadel Skulls box, so I can make proper crypt-terrain.

Here is a preview of the upcoming Kruleboyz warband for Warhammer Underworlds: Gikkit from Da Kunnin' Krew.

Brent from Goobertown Hobbies expressed some disappointment that the Kruleboyz lack the wackiness of most other Greenskins past and present, with none of them even smiling evilly. Gikkit is at least grinning in his artwork, so maybe there will be some more playfully vicious Kruleboyz in Warhammer Underworlds?

[up]Interesting. I seem to remember that in the past (I tend to avoid fan communities these days) people complained that the orcs/orks/orruks were getting too cartoony and should be more serious. Different people have different takes I guess.

I'm sort of in the middle-ground regarding Greenskin silliness. My first exposure to Orcs/Orks were through the book released for 6th Edition WH and whatever codex at the time was for 40K. The black-and-white artwork is suitably grim for the setting, while the minis had a fine compromise with the Grimdark tone of the setting and the more OTT wacky aspects of the units. I did fall in love with the Greenskins for this blending of brutality and silliness, because they reminded me of the orcs in my favourite video-game: Warcraft II. The similarities are not surprising, as the Warcraft-franchise got its start as a WH-adaptation. Point is, no matter how brutal they might be, I like my Greenskins fun.

Yeah, I like something of a middle ground as well. The Kruleboyz do actually have a Early-Bird Cameo at the end of the story section of Broken Realms: Kragnos where they do seem like normal orruks, just a little sneakier (one had specifically looted a telescope from a human scout's corpse so that he could have a cushy job as a lookout).

The last I heard on the Warcraft was intended as a Warhammer adaption, was that it was a widely believed rumour with no evidence beyond the similarities between the two.

Yeah, both franchises are so derivative of earlier-made stuff, like D&D (also something very derivative), that there will be eerily close similarities even when they aren't actively copying each other. But a part of me suspects that Age of Sigmar has played a large part in inspiring Shadowlands, as well as other recent cosmic stuff introduced in the past few years.

As for the Kruleboyz, I do like the look of the models a lot. But I've heard arguments for why they don't entirely fit in with other portrayals of Greenskins, that they are a bit too serious. I agree that they don't really look distinctly Warhammer-y, which can be good for using the models for orcs in other games. But as a fan of both Orcs and Night Goblins, I kinda want to see their sneakiness come across more in the models, through wicked grins and more madcap devices.

Yeah, I noticed some similarities between the Shadowlands content and AoS, and one of the parts of the Shadowlands also reminded me of what little I know about Ravenloft as well.

As for the Kruleboyz, its the lack of a strong jaw that makes them look more like Middle-earth orcs than WFB/AoS orcs/orruks, but being less bulty in general makes sense due to greenskin physiology. I do think Gikkit looks more Warhammery though.

Ravenloft is different though in that it's basically a magical prison intended for truly reprehensible people to suffer and atone.

The Shadowlands are just the Shadowlands XD

Talking about Ravenloft is a can of worms, because one has to specify if they're referring only to the Dracula-inspired stuff that's connected to the original module, or the immensely expanded version of the setting that came later on. The more I read about RL, the more I personally prefer the original module and just ignore all the stuff about the Dark Powers, because I like it for the Gothic Horror and Hammer influences. That is one thing that Ravenloft and Warhammer have in common, in that both take plenty of inspiration from Hammer regarding the undead.

[up][up]I was talking specifically about the Revendreth part of the Shadowlands where "The wretched souls who arrive here may find penance for their misdeeds".

[up]As I said, I only know a little about Ravenloft, but Revendreth did immediately remind me of it when my character got there.

Aesthetically speaking, Revendreth does look a lot like Clyde Caldwell's original artwork for Ravenloft: Lots of black, blood-red and cold hues of blue.

Hey, quick question. I was thinking of tweaking the images for the Great Clans on Characters.Warhammer Skaven, which currently are just the clan banners, to something like what's currently in the chapter folders on Characters.Warhammer 40000 Astartes Chapters — that is, the clan symbols currently up side-by-side with a miniature of a relevant unit. Thoughts? Does this seem like a useful change, or are the current images fine?

[up]I had been wanting to do something like that with all the pages (I think I brought it up here or on one of the discussion pages). Having said that, I think I read recently that changing character entry images require opening an Image Picking thread, I don't know if discussion her counts. Could ~Willbyr confirm?

In Blood Bowl news, Werewolf Star Player Wilhelm Chaney is getting a new model. I love how they have matched the artwork.

I'm glad that GW decided to go whole-hog on all the stuff we've heard about for Cathay.

Wow, that's got to be the most information about Cathay ever released in one place in, like, ever.

[up]Seconded, definitely. I'm really glad that GW's doubling down on the portrayal of Cathay as the most magical of the human civilizations.

Really digging the dragon design, too.

As for the rest, looks like the expected mix of armored infantry and cannons, plus animated statues and cavalry mounted on dragon-winged horses. Smart money says those are meant to be longma.

Also, the FAQ answers the age-old questions of whether the Dragon Emperor (and now also his kids) is a dragon who can turn into a human or a human who can turn into a dragon. He's a dragon who can take human form.

Cathay's relationship with the rest of the world has the potential to be very interesting, going forward. How do they look at other Order factions, for instance? Plus, since their rulers are explicitly immortal, fully sapient dragons who rule and fight by themselves and explicitly don't bear riders, it's going to be interesting to see what they think of other dragons.

Imagine what the Lizardmen would think of them xD

"The Old Ones' Great Plan must be followed!"

"Buddy, we were here before the Old Ones. If anything you should be following our plan."

But yeah, I wonder if we'll also get like, normal-sized terracotta soldiers, or if all we have is the Sentinels. Not that I'm complaining, but I'm curious.
