"Indeed." Thomas said, chuckling. "It's quite confusing how our worlds are set up. Someone could be from the Apocalypse, someone could be from the past...the possibilities are endless."

He poured a glass of wine into an empty cup. "Would you like any?"

[Parlor-Entry Hall]

Stepping out of the Parlor, Abeiyuwa felt relived to get out of a crowded area. She then pointed to the stairs, "How about up there?"

Leo almost choked on dust when Oracle pointed out his presence.
"Guess there's no way outta this one..."

He crawled a foot or two out so his head and shoulders appeared from under the bed.
"Uh, hi. My name's... John... Doe. Well... in my world, magic is prevalent enough that anti-magic tech has been developed. I myself have a prototype cybernetic right arm, along with the most current anti-magic defenses."
-What are you doing?! Those were only installed as a precaution! They haven't even been tested yet-
"Hey, hey, I've got this. I trust the good doctors. Besides, if we get successful data on the anti-magic tech, we could give it to the Doctors, who could then implement it into our timelines version of Oracle, who would have anti-magic abilities ten years from now."
-Wow, you can be pretty smart sometimes...-

Leo stood up and positioned himself in the center of the room. The otherworldly presence of this veritable angel of death disturbed him slightly, but he was used to being a test subject. He lifted his right arm, with his palm facing Kokabiel.

"Show me what you got."

Markus shook his head, "No, I don't drink. Even with no memory of my past, I don't believe I was ever a fan of alcohol. Something about the flavor throws me off."

Markus looked at the ceiling as he mused, "One must wonder if the various worlds have some way of being linked," He faced the two men, "Places like this for example. A bunch of people from different worlds, all arriving here through multiple means, ending up in the same place and interacting with each other. I wonder if there are other world linking locations."

Kokabiel raised an eyebrow and said, "technology-based antimagic? Interesting, although I imagine it suffers from the usual weaknesses of such — that is to say, an inability to nullify the physical intertia of, say, a shard of aerodynamic metal accelerated to supersonic speeds by telekinesis." She considered, then shook her head. "I apologize, but I do not have the power to spare upon your experiments at present. I shall need to recharge. At the expense of another mage."

She smirked slightly. "Also: 'John Doe'? Do your handlers value you so little that they could not even be bothered to write you a simple false identity for the event of discovery?"

"Ah, but that's what the electromagnetic defenses are for. In dire situations, any physical attacks can be deflected, but at an enormous cost to energy, and a potential discharge that could destroy a large radius of matter around me. Really, all my high-level equipment comes at a high toll. But it also depends on the type of magic. Shooting something at me with telekinesis is a potential non-issue if the telekinesis is based on magic that rejects the 'rules' of reality. This anti-magic technology is actually magic based, and grafted into the technology, with a combined interface. The magic used is for restoring status-quo. Therefore, coming into contact with any reality defying magic is what activates the anti-magic, causing it to reject the rejection of reality, nullifying the existence of the original magic, as if it was never cast. As amazing as our scientists are though, they couldn't come up with something like this on their own, which is also why it's never been tested. The person who developed this magic is-"
-Hey, stop talking! You've given away enough info as it is, and we could get into serious trouble.-
"Oh, sorry, I just don't really like it when people doubt the doctors. Anyway, I admit they didn't bother to give me an alias, so I'll drop the charade. My name's Leo, and the AI is Halcyon."

He extended his left hand, welcoming a handshake. He then realized that shaking this... being's hand might not be the best idea, but kept it out regardless.

Kokabiel offered a bow and said, "shaking my hand might be an unpleasant experience for one or both of us. I'm afraid I must decline, etiquette aside. I hope you understand." Then she tilted her head, sighing slightly. Her tone become slightly curt, as though speaking to a slow child. "now, if I may be blunt: I don't think you have the slightest idea what a 'telekinetic hurl' is. And the way you say your anti-magic 'nullifies the existence of the original magic, as if it was never cast...'" she raised an eyebrow, showing a bit of concern. "Are you outright saying that your anti-magic alters the past? Or merely that it erases the magic from the present, preventing any further changes while leaving the past unmodified? I should hope the latter, given the... side effects I have witnessed from temporal engineering, especially in conjunction with the odder aspects of general relativity."

If it's the former, we should get out of here or destroy that damn fool technology before it opens a gateway into the Void.

[Master Bedroom -> Entry Hall -> Library]

Oracle left the bedroom without saying a word. Both Leo (aka 'John Doe') and Kokaibel (aka 'Angel of Ambition', 'Lord of Suicide') had now indetified themself and oracle had registed enough about them. The anti-magic and that technology where unlikely to lead to something useful. Walking into the hall she heard Yuki, Anita(aka 'Sweetie') and someone else talking in the bathroom. Oracle had wasted a lot of time on 'John Doe' and resulting in a change of priorities, that other voice had to wait for later.

After walking down the stairs she wasted no time on the people in the entry hall and continued straight to the library. She walked up to the bookcases and started to walk side to side in front of them while rising and lowering her body and producing flashes of various colors.

Being eight years old and still mostly of the opinion that boys were all fairly stupid and icky, not to mention the fact that she was almost totally oblivious as to the nature of certain 'adult activities', Tammy still didn't understand why Samira's friend Aseyu wouldn't have clothes on. But she decided not to pursue the subject because she was a smart girl and suspected that the answer would be something gross. Grown-ups can be so weird, sometimes. She thought, idly, as she continued to sip her drink.

"Your daughter sounds very nice." Said Claire. She wasn't really sure what else to say; She didn't have much experience with kids, and certainly didn't have children of her own. She had no idea how it might feel to raise one to adulthood. And even if she was getting along with Tammy quite well, they'd only met a little while ago. "She's very lucky to have a mother like you... But what's this board game she plays?"

"Sure" Jonathan said. he walked up the beautiful staircase and awkwardly limped up to it, his progress made more difficult by the fact that he could not bend his knees very well. However, he did not take forever claiming up the stairs.

"Don't worry about me," he murmured. "I've done this before."

Samira just shrugged and said, "something about dragons. Wizards. Dungeons. I don't know, and when I ask her about it, all goes over my head. But she enjoys it, and it helps her make friends."

She then looked over at Tamara and said, "oh, your friend seems to have settled down from her... well, understandable reactions to all that." She smiled. "I think we've hidden from the crowds long enough, don't you? Can't stay cooped in here all day." She glanced out the door. "Shall we go out there and make sure we aren't missing anything fun?"

Checking the map, they'll have to pass through the library and encounter Gabrielle and Oracle. You can assume Samira follows Claire if she heads out.

"I've wondered that myself." Thomas said, "Still, I find it quite nice how much we can learn about other universes, other timelines." He took another sip of wine. "I'm assuming this is not the first time you traveled out your universe?"

John said nothing as he felt his insecurities rising again. His brother always found the right things to say, or how to keep other's interest...

Abeiyuwa was admittedly concerned at first, but once she saw Jonathan walk up the stairs quickly, she decided not to say anything about that.

"I see." she said, "I never got the chance of knowing this, but where are you from?"

Anne looked at what Anita was pointing at, and promptly took her suggestion. Then she stepped back and considered what she just did.

"I guess that could work, but perhaps there's a faster option?" she said, "This process could take a while, and I still have nothing else to wear except this towel. And towels were never meant to be a substitute for clothing."

Yuki and her hadn't really looked very hard for a replacement dress. They hadn't really looked at all. "We could ask someone if they have a spare change of clothes."

She grinned in embarrassment. "Sorry this is taking so long, Anne."

Leo retracted his hand.
"Let me rephrase. It nullifies reality defying phenomena, which includes many forms of magic and psychic abilities. And it doesn't alter the past, it sets it to the way it was before the usage of reality bending abilities. That's the entire point, and why I'm here. I'm supposed to test it on the dimensional anomaly causing all these people to converge here. In reality, this is still a test and my employers don't particularly care what happens to the people here, just that the technology works. If it fails they'll just try again, even if everyone is in danger because of it. In short, I'm here to return the status-quo."

Kokabiel tilted her head. "Pardon? 'It doesn't alter the past, it sets it to the way it was before the usage of reality bending abilities.' I do not understand the difference between the two. Let us say..." it paused. "No. Perhaps a test is in order." She tore a small piece of her dress off — when it was removed, it proved to be ordinary black cloth. She held it up with her left hand, and held her right beneath it. Then she snapped her fingers.

An incredibly brief spell transferred heat from Kokabiel's body into the cloth. But there was nothing special or magical about the heat transferred into the cloth. As soon as the spell was over, the natural laws of physics took over, and the cloth caught alight, burning with remarkable speed. Kokabiel then pointed to the pile of ashes, and said, "before my magic, that was not a pile of ashes. But it was the laws of physics, not magic, that destroyed it. You claim your antimagic can 'restore the status quo'. Let's see proof."

"The Anti-magic rejects the phenomena, which acts as a trigger to natural events. By disabling the trigger, it disables all subsequent natural results. In this case, removing the magic by removing the magical residue should remove the natural result of the cloth burning as well. Let's try."
Leo bent over the ashes. He raised his right arm about a foot over them and pulled back his sleeve to allow ventilation. "Hal, activate protocol 001."
-Uh, roger. Protocol 001 activated.-
Leo opened the palm of his right hand towards the ash. And then-

He was standing back in his original position, and the dress was whole.
-Rejection confirmed. Timeline intact. But... I think you just screwed something up.-
"Huh?"
Where the pile of ash had been, there was now a black rift, as if a hole had been ripped into space.
"That... doesn't look good. Wait, maybe that's just an after effect. The anti-magic still has to cause a phenomena to reject other phenomena, so maybe I can reject this... singularity lookin' thing."

Jonathan smiled, he loved going all techincal and smart, even if other people thought it was obnoxious.

"Well, we do have magic, but it didn't just appear one day. It's always been around since the Big Bang and it's connected to the stars. I'm actually a fire mage, I can conjure fire and I'm fireproof too. See?" Jonathan held out his hand, palm up, and a tiny little fireball appeared in the center of his palm. He showed it to Abiyuwa for a moment before clenching his fist and letting the little flame go out. "I can make it bigger, but that would be a fire hazard, not to mention it could scorch my clothing, and this is such a nice jacket," Jonathan said with a light-hearted teasing in his smile.

"I'm actually not very powerful, but I can do a really cool trick that's almost all mages can't do. You got a coin?"

As Andrew dug into his meal, which by the way, was delicious, he suddenly felt extremely uneasy, as if he were being watched by some unspeakable horror.

He glanced around and up, but he didn't see anything of interest, but he still didn't put his guard down. Even though he lost touch with his powers ever since he rid himself of the Corruption, when his powers did manifest, he could trust them. Someone, or something unspeakably evil was watching.

Andrew's sBurb title is the Seer of Space.

Kokabiel cringed. She hadn't expected her despised master to react that positively. Then again, she hadn't expected the techology would be so ill-conceived and dangerous. "You idiot," she said, her voice dripping with utter malice now. "It. Didn't. Work. Well, there was a partial success, but I cannot honestly call your technology a success when it has such a crucial flaw. Normally I'd explain it, and if you ask me very nicely, I will. For now, I'll give you some time to mull over just why your technology is, in fact, a failure." Her face curled into a cruel smile. "Perhaps you'll not prove a complete moron, and I won't have to explain this like you're a schoolchild." She pointed at the singularity and added, "oh, and I'm not talking about that, either. No, that's merely an obvious symptom. There's a much subtler flaw remaining."

Yeah, I know, it's taken a turn for the really nasty. But it really doesn't like time-altering technology, for reasons it's already hinted at. Don't let its insults fool or bug you, BTW — the flaw it's talking about actually is really very subtle Fridge Logic.

Linna grimaced. "It wouldn't really be surprising if you were, let's put it that way." She stepped through the door and eyed one of the clockwork servants curiously. "These seem...kind of basic."
