Today I found out an interesting fact from troper Ironeye:

Don't ever make the mistake of using the Laconic version as the canonical trope meaning—the laconics are often written by people who don't actually understand the drop. In this case, the laconic only corresponds to one possible cause of Darkness-Induced Audience Apathy.

The Laconic Description for DIAA states as follows:

The thing is, these descriptions are supposed to make it easier to understand what the page is about. If they can't be accurate as well as short and sweet, then there's a problem.

So for starters, what would be a better description for DIAA?

I would suggest "Two characters have the same love interest, and will fight for their affection". I know that only covers one of the forms of love triangle but, then again, there are 13 types of Triang Relations.

Yeah, the problem with trying to write a clear laconic for Love Triangle is that it's a really broad trope and one laconic can't cover every possible type of it without being as vague as the current.

But if we're going to focus on one variant, [up] looks fine.

Laconic.Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann gives zero context to what the show’s about and Laconic.Fantastic Four 2015 is WAY to complain-y.

[down] [tup] for the GL and second Fan4stic laconic.

^ If I may make suggestions then:

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann:

Orphan boy finds a Mini-Mecha and goes on a journey with his Big Brother Mentor and a gun-wielding young woman to fight giant robots. Hot-Blooded Rule of Cool action ensues.

Fantastic Four (2015):

Creator.Twentieth Century Fox's last film about Marvel's first family, drastically reimagined as Darker and Edgier and Younger and Hipper.

If that still comes off as complainy...:

Darker and Edgier and Younger and Hipper take on Marvel's first family.

Since Laconic.Megamind talks about the movie's driving force but says nothing about its plot, would anyone mind if I changed it to say this?:

Blue supervillain finally defeats his lifelong nemesis and suffers an existential crisis.

[up][up]/[up] The Gurren Lagann and Megamind suggestions look good. I'm not sure what to do with F4.

The Laconic for The Scream is not good, to say the least. It only adds to the misuse it suffers by having no details.

My idea for a replacement that actually describes the trope would be:

"A massive zoom out when someone screams loudly"

If someone could think of a better idea, then I'm open to it

I wonder if the laconic of Armor-Piercing Question is a bit too narrow. The definition says that it's a question that causes someone to reconsider their actions. Most of the examples have nothing to do with the characters' actions, and instead are questions that exposes a flaw or vulnerability that the one being questioned is trying to hide. It may cause them to rethink their question, but not always.

Need to ask again about the laconic for Captain Flamingo, which is essentially an X Meets Y laconic.

What's Main.Mercurys Wings?

Its Laconic doesn't say how they're meaningful...

Is it basically supposed to be an appearance-based Shout-Out to Mercury?

Laconic.Mercurys Wings:

Wings on the head or feet.

Basically winged head and/or feet either as allusion to Hermes/Mercury or for other things like divinity and/or speed. Also can be used for Little Bit Beastly characters so different meanings. When I wrote the draft the trope years ago the scope was just winged feet / head as I think its a trope on its on given the impracticality alone

Not sure how to improve the laconic as winged heads and feet by themselves aren't chairs to me and describe at the basic level. But since they are usually allusions to Hermes I guess that can ve mentioned?

Laconic.Eek A Mouse:

A fairly common reaction towards small rodents, particularly among women.

You'll notice that this doesn't seem to say what the reaction is. Maybe something more like "Small rodents are frightening, particularly to women".

Trouble Cube continues to be a general-purpose forum for those who desire such a thing.

I'm not sure if "particularly to women" is gonna be helpful, because it's not an Always Female trope. Perhaps something like this?

Small rodents are frightening, so characters freak out at the sight of one

I'm afraid I'm not familiar with Tabletop Games (except chess). I can only agree that the laconic has to be changed.

Laconic.Really Gets Around is just a link to dictionary.com, which seems like a pretty bad laconic if it requires further clicking to an external website.

Laconic.Girl Interrupted is pretty terrible. I've never seen the movie though, so I can't be the one to rewrite it.

Or we could just cut it since I don't think work pages really need a laconic page.

Ehhh, I disagree with just cutting it. I have seen lots of good laconics for work pages, I myself created some. I think a better laconic can apply for this one (I agree that the current one is awful).
