Reverse of the "songs you hate by bands you like". I'm sure this can be done without turning into a complaint thread, and I would prefer it be that way. I'm sure there are ways to say "I don't like this artist" without being mean.

  • I was never big on Don Williams, but I like "Tulsa Time" (even if it rhymes "time" with "time" a billion times), "Heartbeat in the Darkness", "Some Broken Hearts Never Mend", and "Lord Have Mercy on a Country Boy".

  • Also not too big on Hank Williams, Jr., as I feel he sings about Dixie and/or himself too much. However, when it does come to singing about himself, I liked "All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight", "Born to Boogie", "Family Tradition", and "I'm for Love". And when it comes to Dixie, "That's How They Do It in Dixie" was decent — it helped that he had Big & Rich when they were still good, Gretchen Wilson, and Van Zant backing him. And when it comes to "other", "Why Can't We All Just Get a Longneck?" and "This Ain't Dallas" were enjoyable. He also did a commendable job covering a lot of his daddy's songs.

  • "Some Days Are Diamonds, Some Days Are Stone" is the only John Denver song I've heard that I would consider a "like".

It's not that I dislike her so much as I can't really stand her anymore, but I'll go with the Hannah Montana song "If We Were a Movie". Cliche, maybe, but cute (and, oddly, I used it to comfort myself in my less mature years).

Britney Spears, "Toxic"...I dunno what it is about that one song, but it clicks in a way that none of her other stuff does.

There's "Red Harvest" by Bloodsimple and "A Beautiful Mind" by My Hero Is Me. Other than that, I like quite a few songs by bands that I don't exactly dislike, but also don't care about.

No regret shall pass over the threshold!

[up][up]Speaking of, Miley's part on "Ready, Set, Don't Go" is probably the only thing of hers that I liked. The song still has a very boring Casey Beathard one-note melody, but I feel that it works so much better with Billy Ray and Miley trading off lines.

And I actually like most of Billy Ray's body of work. So there.

On that note, how do you feel about "Stand"?

@"Toxic": It's that epic violin riff in it that hooks me.

That one Dr Who episode with the song ("a classic Earth ballad!") helps though.

I first started liking the original version of "Toxic" because of the Local H cover. Nowadays I sort of think the vocals in their version could use more emotion (though that's kinda just what Scott Lucas always sounds like), but still like their arrangement, particularly how they emulated the violin sample on guitar:

Can’t stand Katy Perry but I have to admit, “California Gurls” is damned catchy.

For my ears, “Spiral Architect” is the only Black Sabbath song worth a damn.

Katy Perry does piss me off royally, but "Teenage Dream" is probably one of the best written pop songs in a long while, evidenced by how wonderful the multitude of covers for that song are.

Similarly, I have no affinity for Glee whatsoever (aside from it providing the basis of a couple hilarious Bunny Perspective videos), but their version of "Teenage Dream", I can admit, is really good.

"Suicide Blonde" by INXS. Mostly because it's catchy as hell (and because of that guitar sound).

Not so much I dislike them, but I'm not a huge fan of Creed. However, Bullets is a really damned great song.

So, we've had a pretty similar thread twice. Both got locked.

I think some of the mods think it borders on a complaint thread.

Anyway, I'm pretty indifferent to Coldplay, but Fix You is a pretty nice little piece.

I agree, Teenage Dream is one of Katy Perry's better songs. The One That Got Away wasn't bad either.

Not so much "dislike" as "don't feel the hype about," but Death Grips' "Beware" is an absolutely fantastic song.

I'd probably never consider myself a KISS fan, but I like "Hard Luck Woman"... Which I'm probably not alone in originally mistaking for an early Rod Stewart song.

[up] I really like "Hard Luck Woman", too...Garth Brooks did a good cover of it with KISS playing the instruments.

"Umbrella" by Rihanna, mainly because it's just begging to have a cover done of it with Resident Evil-themed lyrics.

Somehow you know that the time is right.

SOS by the Jonas Brothers.

Don't ask me why. I, quite frankly, am still trying to figure out why I like that song.

I don’t even know anymore.

I will fully admit that I never understood the hatred of the Jonas Brothers, the whole Disney and tween-pop association aside. They were basically a glorified Monkees, and I can't think of anyone that hates the Monkees as an act (their origins aside). Plus, they actually wrote their own songs and played their own instruments, and were very competent at both, something that can't be said for most tween pop stars.

Chris Brown's new single "Fine China". It depresses me, because while I love the sound of the song and its New Jack Swing style instrumentation and all, I cannot in good conscience give that subhuman scum any of my money. *sigh* Why couldn't someone less...well, really, anyone but Chris Brown, why couldn't anyone but him have released the song?

[up] I think it's just that they sold their souls to Disney. I will admit, their old stuff isn't that bad.

I don’t even know anymore.

If it's only the Disney thing, I still don't think that's a good enough reason—it's like hating a TV show just because it's aired FOX or something like that. But eh. I still think their stuff even after being amalgamated by Disney isn't bad at all.
