[POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD]

Surprised there isn't a thread on this yet. Anyway, for those of you who don't know there is an ongoing comic series continuing the Smallville story after the Season 10 finale, which means Clark is now Superman.

So far they've wrapped up two story arcs; "Guardian", which sets the scene for the new show, and "Detective", which introduces Batman. The next story arc will be "Haunted", which includes the return of Smallville's Flash (Impulse) along with the introduction of JSA's Jay Garrick. After that we will get "Effigy", which will feature a sort-of Batman x Martian Manhunter team-up.

Anyway; I thought I should post a thread. I know it's already been mentioned in the Smallville discussion, but I thought since we're now talking about a comic it was better to start it in the comics section.

I've read two issues (from the "Detective" arc) and found it solid.

My main issue is that I am really freaking tired of Batman saving Superman from a Kryptonite bullet. Something that specific should not happen so often that it becomes a cliche.

@Albor and Evil

Where ya'll impressed with the smallville version of Batman or do ya'll think they could have done a better job at portraying Batman?

[up] It was probably the best we could have hoped for, and as someone else pointed out on the SHH boards, if that was what we could have expected from the show it would have been quite satisfying.

However, something that always bugs me whenever someone is handed an opportunity to redesign Batman they don't get rid of the open-mouth cowl. Seriously; I know it's been a part of Batman's costume design for, well; forever, but every version of Batsuit I've seen with a mask that covers the whole face always looks ten times more badass then the normal batsuit, whether it be Jason Todd, Azrael or even Batgirl. I know the armored suit he wears in Detective has a covered mouth, and indeed it looks awesome, but I'd really like to see it as part of the standard costume design.

They went that route in Batman Beyond, even if we only saw Bruce Wayne in the suit very briefly.

I thought the black face paint he wore under the mask looked atrocious.

I dunno. It was a fine version of Batman. He seemed a little more on the petulant/monomaniacal side of the character, but that worked in a story where Batman was just a supporting character for Superman. Like, I wouldn't read a comic about this Batman, but he's a good secondary character in a world that revolves around Superman.

I don't get why Batman had nightwing instead of Robin?

[up] Because the writers wanted to have a female Nightwing be the sidekick instead of Robin.

Also, it was supposed to be Stephanie Brown, but they were forced to use Barbara instead.
