That'd be pretty cool. While I've never played Yoshis Story and I never finished Yoshis Island DS, the original Yoshis Island is one of my favorite video games period. I'd love another entry in the series.
Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle. There was a rumour that Good Feel (the guys behind Wario Land Shake It and Kirbys Epic Yard) were working on an installment for the Wii U. I hope to god it turns out to be true.
Time to leave them all behindYoshi's Island is one of my favorite games of all time, if not my all-time favorite. It was also my first real video game*, so it holds a special place for me.
Yoshi's Story was a fun little game. Not Yoshi's Island, though. Just a different game, really.
I don't like the GBA remake much, in spite of the new levels. Voice clips were annoying, screen is too small, sound and graphical quality is reduced, and to be blunt I've never liked the idea of handheld continuations of console games, it feels like a "downgrade" to me since I prefer console.
Yoshi's Island DS was good. My only real complaints, aside from some shared issues from the GBA remake, were the lack of soundtrack variety and the multiple-baby mechanic. If I had a say in a new game I'd reduce it back to just Baby Mario.
...I never did successfully 100% DS. It was hard. Very hard.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!I honestly didn't like DS. Artoon has no idea what good level design is.
You got some dirt on you. Here's some more!I guess the level design wasn't as good. It's been a while since I've played it though.
If I had a say in a new game's difficulty, it would be slightly harder than the original but maybe not quite as intense as DS.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Music was pretty boring too.
Time to leave them all behindOr how to introduce good mechanics. The baby-switching system is a case study of how to take what seems like a good idea and use it in a way that makes the game poorer, plodding, boring.
The original YI's one of my favourite games of all time and I like Yoshi's Story. I haven't played Touch 'n' go and Universal Gravitation, and from what I've seen, I don't think I want to.
Touch 'n Go is mainly just a hardware test, and it shows. It's fun, but not worth buying because it's basically just a minigame that you'll get bored with after a while.
Universal Gravitation/Topsy-Turvy is pretty bad. I don't recommend it.
If I could design a new game, aside from the aforementioned difficulty, I'd probably make it have 6 worlds, good level design, and just one baby like in the SNES game, but I'd definitely bring in the two-bonus-levels-per-world from the GBA remake and from DS, since 60 levels seems like a fair amount.
A bonus seventh world only unlocked by 100%'ing the previous 6 worlds would be kinda cool though.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!I really loved Yoshi's Island, one of the first Mario games I've ever played (although it was the GBA Updated Re-release). Yoshi's Story was alright, and Touch 'n' Go was a neat little time-waster, but YIDS and Topsy-Turvy were not all that stellar, in my opinion.
Also, if Good Feel really is working on a new game in the series, it would be pretty cool if it has an art style similar to that of this Japanese commercial. With the power of the Wii U, I think it's very possible.
Eh.I feel like that's what they were going for with the original game, but they didn't quite have the technology to get it exactly like that, so the crayon drawing style was the next best thing (which I have no issue with).

Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle. It's a platformer like Yoshi's Story, with some gravity-tilt ability.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Never played Yoshis Story and know next to nothing about it, so you're gonna have to be more specific here.
Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle.Uh... basically like Yoshi's Island but without the baby (Yoshi has health), and kinda slower-paced.
Anyway, I decided I'm going to 100% Yoshi's Island DS. Wow, A Light in the Dark is hard. Spikes everywhere, many of which you have to ride arrow wheels over, and then at the end a skiing segment. And it's all in the dark. Even the skiing part.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Yoshi Story is nice. Played a bit of Yoshi's Island, but didn't like the whole baby thing.
Yoshi's Epic Yarn, by the same people who made the Kirby one and will probably be just as squee-tastic as that.
edit: To clarify, Yoshi's Epic Yarn is just a Fan Nickname place-holder title at the moment, though I wouldn't be surprised if it ended up being called just that.

I'm a bit disappointed that Good Feel reused the yarn style for this one, because I was hoping for something more like Wario Land: Shake It!, or this Japanese commercial. But, if the director for the original YI is working closely on it, I have lots of faith in it.
Game does look nice, though.
Eh.Bah, not what I was hoping for...
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Kirby's Epic Yarn was one of my favorite games of the last generation, so I am pumped for this. And anything involving Yoshi generally puts me in a squeediculously good mood, so I'm all for it! Plus, this being a spiritual successor/sequel means there's a great possibility for a Kirby/Yoshi crossover, or fighting Yin-Yarn as Yoshi, or a Yoshified version of Prince Fluff, and I can imagine none of these things being less than awesome.
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaA new Yoshi console game, and it's being made by Good Feel, AND it looks like Epic Yarn HD on Steroids? Sign me up!!!
If you watch the piece of the Nintendo Direct presentation where they show it off, it actually uses Epic Yarn assets and starts out with a 2D Yoshi in EY style. He eats a Shy Guy, turns into an egg, and that makes him into "Crochet Yoshi." Which is why I dare hope this is a direct sequel and we get MAD CROSSOVER FUN.
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaIt'll probably be insanely easy though.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! Also, the guy behind Yoshi's Island and Yoshi's Story is on board with the development of this game. That must be a good thing.
Eh.That's good at least.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Kirby did have challenge of sorts, though it was completely optional; to get gold ranking you pretty much had to get through the levels without taking one hit.
Am I the only one who really wants a new Yoshi's Island game for the Wii U? I can't be.
