The Grand Unified Appearance Trope Clean-up: Currently on GrayEyes: Gray Eyes

Go To

Currently on the table: Green Eyes

There is on TV Tropes, a common bad habit that persists among editors of using appearance tropes, or names that sound like they could be appearance tropes, badly. They always suffer from the same problems and they tend to clog up the TRS like they're on a revolving door. As such I'm making a large scale special effort in order to address the common problems all of these tropes have.

Sometimes non-appearance tropes are mistaken for appearance tropes. Report them here and the clean-up will be handled.

We're going to search for the best ways to change the culture and make sure that the misuse stops. Tropes will be handled here and we'll likely have a fair number of crowners on this thread. Keep checking back for new developments.

For full details, including the to-do list and crowner list, check this post.

All appearance tropes that show more than 50% misuse and/or ZCEs on a wick check may be cut freely after posting the wick check here on the thread for approval as per crowner results.

[up][up]Yeah, Prophet Eyes isn't appropriate. However, Elemental Eye Colours might work because the show is starting to link the silver eyes to the power of Light, which can classify as Elemental Powers. So, that's definitely an option.

It feels so good to have no signature at last.

I removed Gray Eyes from the Trope Epitaph. It was added before discussion had even started.

Can we get a crowner for Grey Eyes? Thread name should be updated too.

[up]What options should be on the crowner? I can't think of anything other than what you already mentioned (turn into a disambiguation page, or cut entirely).

"Disambiguation page" or "cut entirely" sound like good options to me.

Here's a crowner with options for Gray Eyes. I included making redirects for related tropes as an option.

Are "cut" and "make a disambiguation page" mutually exclusive?

Similarly, are Disambiguate and make Innocent/Icy redirects mutually exclusive?

Cut and disambiguate are mutually exclusive.

Should the redirect option include Commonwealth spellings (Innocent Grey Eyes and Icy Grey Eyes), since Grey Eyes already exists as a redirect to Gray Eyes?

I added it as a separate option. I don't feel comfortable with changing the existing redirect option when it already has nine votes.

Creating Commonwealth redirects is standard practice per American and Commonwealth Spellings, so I'm not sure it needs a separate crowner option.

Do we have enough votes now, to make a disambiguation?

[up]Icy Blue Eyes and Innocent Blue Eyes as well, since we're applying them to gray eyes as well (hence the redirect crowner options).

Edit: I posted a request in the Locked Pages thread so the redirects can be created.

Update: I checked and the redirects have been created.

So, only blue eye tropes get to exist? I really hate to sound like I'm complaining, but it seems pretty elitist to me. *shrugs*

[up] It's because anything covered by Gray Eyes is already covered by those Blue Eye tropes, or the other two tropes mentioned. It's literally no deeper than that.

[down] I mean, gray eyes pretty much are blue eyes, just a slightly different shade.

If the Blue Eyed tropes are covering more than one eye colour to represent a trait, the trope names are probably not appropriate.

It feels so good to have no signature at last.
