TLP Crash Rescue - Fixing prematurely launched TLPs and pages

Go To

Prematurely launched pages and pages that weren't fully fleshed out at the point of launching, are a big problem. Since these usually share several problems at once, this thread is aimed at re-running them through the TLP for fixing - the usual fix - or cutting them if they are too bad.

Problems this thread deals with include bad names, not enough/bad examples, unclear description, etc.

For the interested, here's a list of recently created pages. Launches

Note: Please do not request a mod to unlaunch drafts that don't have any issues besides lacking a launch notice/24hr launch notice. While 24hr launch notices are mandatory, there are a few exceptions to the rule. If you see a draft's sponsor launch a TLP without an announcement, it's best to remind them of our TLP Guidelines first. If they continue to repeatedly launch drafts without a launch notice, you can report them on Ask The Tropers or the TLP Community Issues thread.

19 wicks, a general example list - might need a kickback to YKTTW.

I think it needs a cutlisting. "Altered in the DVD release or special edition release" is not a trope; at best it's trivia.

Trivia is not a cut reason. I don't feel it's complainy, but it might be masked by the long description.

Is it too late to bring up The Rich Are Evil?

No. I'll shove that in YKTTW for examples.

EDIT: Scratch that; it's a duplicate of Aristocrats Are Evil, which is in TRS. Cutlist?

Just stumbled across Flashback Within a Flashback. Zero examples! Not sure how old it is, but the edit history goes back to June. It desperately needs help.

eta: (It, obviously, never went through YKTTW.)

[up] Send to YKTTW. Or TRS. But given the whole lack-of-examples thing, I think direct to YKTTW is justified, regardless of how old it is.

Any idea how old the Company Town article is? Did it ever go through YKTTW? (We have a recent YKTTW on it that's either a stealth TRS or a description redux, which is either a bad or good thing depending on which side of that line it falls on.)

Well, the Internet Archive first crawled it on 6-Jan-2007. At that date it had a 3-sentence description, 1 index, and 3 examples. I can't get the old related to page working to count wicks — I doubt Internet Archive crawled those.

Hmm. Before I opened the page I was thinking it was referring to the concept of "company town" like what was prevalent during the "Robber Baron" era in the US, with company-issued scrip good only at company stores, which was basically an alternate form of slavery with debt as the chains.

Okay, so it's not really a premature YKTTW then.

Picked Flowers Are Dead is borderline, but I thought I'd bring it here for discussion. Just launched with only six examples and no hats. I honestly can't decide; it might simply be a rare trope.

The formatting was bad but it has plenty of indices...

[up][up] I think it could probably use a bit of a re-work on the description, if nothing else.

[up][up][up] The name is kind of awkward, but the trope makes sense. I know I've seen it in works before, I just can't come up with a specific one right now or I'd go add examples...

On the matter of Company Town, The Other Wiki uses the term for towns owned and run by a single company, as Nohbody guessed. Highly misleading name, needs a rename, but I don't know if this is the thread to do it. It's a valid trope, all right.

Whether a total rework of the trope page to bring it in line with what WP says or just a rename of the existing content, I'd say it's still TRS material, and not really suited for this project.

Norwegian Bickering was just brought up on Ask The Tropers. It got referred to here.

Among other problems, it never went through YKTTW, and it is nothing but "Real Life" examples.

That looks more like a national stereotype than a trope. Ax it.

Stereotypes can be tropes if used enough in fiction, but lacking any fictional examples, I would agree that it needs to be cut.

I've invited the person that apparently made the page to this thread to discuss.
