TLP Crash Rescue - Fixing prematurely launched TLPs and pages

Go To

Prematurely launched pages and pages that weren't fully fleshed out at the point of launching, are a big problem. Since these usually share several problems at once, this thread is aimed at re-running them through the TLP for fixing - the usual fix - or cutting them if they are too bad.

Problems this thread deals with include bad names, not enough/bad examples, unclear description, etc.

For the interested, here's a list of recently created pages. Launches

Note: Please do not request a mod to unlaunch drafts that don't have any issues besides lacking a launch notice/24hr launch notice. While 24hr launch notices are mandatory, there are a few exceptions to the rule. If you see a draft's sponsor launch a TLP without an announcement, it's best to remind them of our TLP Guidelines first. If they continue to repeatedly launch drafts without a launch notice, you can report them on Ask The Tropers or the TLP Community Issues thread.

Cosmetic Confinement doesn't look like it's bad in name or description. Surely someone can come up with more examples and some indexes.

Someone will have to take it to YKTTW if they want to do so.

Also, checking up the edit history, it seems like it was made by Hawkture Shorts 155. I think we ought to ask them to take tropes to YKTTW - their tropes are (as we've discussed earlier in this topic) often exampleless or examplepoor.

Also, a few new mediocre trope pages: Equine Race Trio and Agile Horse And Nimble Donkey.

Having just looked at it, I suspect the detailed description may be well because it's a Too Rare To Trope page built around the sole example. I don't remember ever seeing it anywhere myself, at least.

I can think of one other Cosmetic Confinement example if it gets back to YKTTW -Lois Lane in Superman: The Animated Series went through that when Toyman first kidnapped her.

Equine Race Trio might have potential, but it needs serious work. The description's all over the place. And the name needs work.

Agile Horse and Nimble Donkey -there's not even any text there when I click the link. I say just boot the thing.

I've un-blanked Agile Horse And Nimble Donkey, because a) the venue to delete a page is the Cut List and b) so that it can be checked upon.

Also, Unisystem. Is that a trope or what?

From the Other Wiki: "Unisystem is a generic role-playing game system produced by Eden Studios, Inc."

Useful Notes at best, and I'm not sure TV Tropes even needs that.

Agile Horse And Nimble Donkey. Not well done, and I'm getting a People Sit on Chairs vibe off of it. I recommend ditch.[tdown]

I've cutlisted the Donkey page.

Also, from the cutlist, Beginning Of The End. Has only one good trope example.

Huh? I'm not sure how many tropes can be added for a "generic" RPG system, but that clearly sounds like a work.

According to the other wiki article, the generic system forms the base play of other role-playing systems, many of which have work pages on this site. Hence Unisystem would be Useful Notes, since it's not a work in and of itself, but a system some works base their structure on. But it's not a trope, because it's a mechanic rather then the storytelling device meaning, as used on this site.

Another way of saying it is that it's a mechanic through which stories can be told and worlds can be built.

Fox Hunting: Only 1 hat when it was launched. Enough to unlaunch it?

In my mind, an unlaunch requires a bigger issue than just an insufficient amount of hats. That page could use Crosswicking.

Proposed: change what the trope Right Out of My Clothes means. It may not have gone through the YKTTW process.

I'd like to suggest that Right Out of My Clothes deals with the case where the audience sees the clothes fall off regardless of why (so not Just For Laughs); it's directly seen rather than implied as in Empty Piles of Clothing - that would be THE key difference between the two tropes.

(Perhaps the trope should also be named Right Out Of Their Clothes because this could be a singular or plural character event, but that's less important than broadening what the trope actually means.)

^I have some difficulty at reading that Wall of Text. Can you shorten it a bit?

Also, I've found Vagineer. Has been tropeless for a long time. And Whistling, which ought to be either YKTTW'ed or cut for only having a few bad examples.

Fox Hunting: It's good enough to keep, even with one hat. Plus, I got to add a "Toy" example that wasn't Bionicle. That makes me happy.

Right Out of My Clothes: Description has issues, name has issues, and not that many examples. Throw it to YKTTW. It's got some potential, but it really needs work. I'll sponsor it if no one else will.

Didn't we do Whistling a while back? I could've sworn we did.

EDIT: Found it. https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13544789560A75740100&page=17 Honestly, it's not a trope in of itself any more than "speaking" is a trope. Whistling can be used to indicate things, but it's not a trope.

I've gone ahead and sponsored a replacement to Right Out of My Clothes on YKTTW since it never actually got discussion there. Has a pretty thorough rewrite that I hope is a lot clearer than what's there now. Have at it!

I was told TRS was not the right forum, so I asked to close the thread there.

"Whistling" is people sit on chairs. "Innocent Whistling", such as when someone whistles and casually saunters away from 'the scene of the crime', might be a trope (and if so, probably already has a page. tongue ) So particular types of Whistling might be a story telling device, but whistling as such isn't a trope.

^^ When asking for a thread to be closed, you'll probably get faster responses if you holler (the exclamation point in a yellow triangle) it to get a mod's attention than if you just post "please close this".
