TLP Crash Rescue - Fixing prematurely launched TLPs and pages

Go To

Prematurely launched pages and pages that weren't fully fleshed out at the point of launching, are a big problem. Since these usually share several problems at once, this thread is aimed at re-running them through the TLP for fixing - the usual fix - or cutting them if they are too bad.

Problems this thread deals with include bad names, not enough/bad examples, unclear description, etc.

For the interested, here's a list of recently created pages. Launches

Note: Please do not request a mod to unlaunch drafts that don't have any issues besides lacking a launch notice/24hr launch notice. While 24hr launch notices are mandatory, there are a few exceptions to the rule. If you see a draft's sponsor launch a TLP without an announcement, it's best to remind them of our TLP Guidelines first. If they continue to repeatedly launch drafts without a launch notice, you can report them on Ask The Tropers or the TLP Community Issues thread.

Luka Sylvie seems to have last edited it, but according to the Launch List and the page's history, it's the OP, ninjamitsuki, who launched it.

Signature Mon has been launched.

I'm not massively familiar with the Mon genre, so I looked at the trope wondering what a 'signature mon' actually is and noticed the examples don't actually seem to explain.

The examples are often quite wordy, but seem to boil down to 'X is the signature mon of Y' and nothing more, making them very wordy lists. Very few actually seem to be 'X is the signature mon of Y because "insert which of the trope guidelines it meets and how"'.

At least... I can't tell what makes the listed creature the signature mon of the mentioned character. In a number of cases, characters are even listed as having multiple signature mon. In a lot of cases, it seems like the creatures are being listed because they're the most frequently used mon by the character, or perhaps the default one, but that doesn't seem to be the point of the trope. Sometimes the mon being listed as the character's 'main partner' is mentioned, but with no explanation of what 'main partner' actually means. The trope description does give a list of reasons why something would be the trope and states that a mon needs to cover several of them to count as the trope, but a lot of the examples, even the very wordy ones, don't really seem to try and follow those guidelines.

So... is it just me not understanding the trope and examples?

Head-and-Hip Pose was launched by the sponsor, but it only had a net 3 hats. I feel that it's not quite ready.

Health sure is versatile. It's possible to be both light-headed and dim-witted. At the same time, no less.

[up] I wanted to say the same thing. 3 net hats, red link in the description, folders are not organized properly, and it has only 4 examples — I know 3 is the minimum, but still. There are definitely more examples in the comments (though perhaps not all of them really fit).

Unlaunching Head and Hip.

Since the launcher is the OP, I'll drop a warning PM.

Tomato Skunk Stink Cure is a new trope... is it really a trope, or a wide-spread trope?

The reason I ask is because I've never heard of any such thing nor seen it crop up in anything I've ever watched, that includes the cartoons I grew up on. Is it perhaps a US-specific trope? I notice most of the examples seem to be US, and all of them appear to be American of some description. They also seem to be modern (with one exception). As an older troper, none of the US shows I was exposed to while growing up ever referenced tomato juice, not even as a gag (including US cartoons). Most of the skunk smell jokes I remember involved the victim being persona non grata in various amusing ways. I remember one incident of trying hot soapy baths and lots of expensive French perfumes, but that's about it. I don't remember even Pepé Le Pew having a tomato juice gag — but that show had a lot of different gags (I remember perfumes, dirty water, and even blue paint).

I have heard of lemon juice and beer as old wives tales for getting rid of skunk smell, and also baking soda (because baking soda fixes everything!) so, if it is a trope, is it too narrow?

[up] Hm, agreed, I don't like this launch either. Too narrow and too specific... However, it had 18 hats and 2 bombs, so we're in the minority.

[up] I suppose you're right that it's nation-specific. We don't have skunks, and I also think that soda fixes everything, smell-wise. [lol] (However, I'm too exposed to American media, and skunk attacks are very familiar to me from cartoons and animated works, but tomato cure — not so much.)

Indeed. And I'll freely admit that, until I read up on it, I'd think tomato juice too automatically for such a situation.

Yes, this is fairly regional, but so are a number of other tropes such as the Japanese The Thing That Goes Doink.

I removed a red link to Clamshell Mouth from Mouthful of Index and saw that there were five other wicks, which I also removed. Was that an unlaunched rogue launch, or did it never exist to begin with? There's no cut reason listed, if that matters.

Edit: To say something more on-topic, I can confirm that Tomato Skunk Stink Cure is a thing.

I asked in the TLP for Tomato Skunk Stink Cure whether it was an American-centric remedy and never got an answer. It's hard to find a source on the remedy but it's likely American-specific. 'No clue on how recent the remedy is, though.

The Troublemaker was rogue-launched from a bare-bones proposal that has been idle since April 2018.

Home Nudist also appears to have been rogue-launched; the launcher didn't participate in the proposal, at least.

Re: Tomato Skunk Stink Cure: Skunks' native distribution is only in the Americas, ([1] [2] [3] show the range of each living genus) so it's entirely possible Old World media doesn't have the trope because there are just no skunks to deal with in the Old World.
