TLP Crash Rescue - Fixing prematurely launched TLPs and pages

Prematurely launched pages and pages that weren't fully fleshed out at the point of launching, are a big problem. Since these usually share several problems at once, this thread is aimed at re-running them through the TLP for fixing - the usual fix - or cutting them if they are too bad.

Problems this thread deals with include bad names, not enough/bad examples, unclear description, etc.

Note: Please do not request a mod to unlaunch drafts that don't have any issues besides lacking a launch notice/24hr launch notice. While 24hr launch notices are mandatory, there are a few exceptions to the rule. If you see a draft's sponsor launch a TLP without an announcement, it's best to remind them of our TLP Guidelines first. If they continue to repeatedly launch drafts without a launch notice, you can report them on Ask The Tropers or the TLP Community Issues thread.

That means tropes that didn't go through YKTTW but also works that are created without enough description or examples.

Off The Reservation is the first thing that IMO could need an unlaunching.

Off The Reservation reads like the first draft of a YKTTW. I support unlaunching it.

I don't know if Reservation would really qualify for even "first draft" status. +1 for unlaunching and sending back to YKTTW.

Just a thought: Should we have a running crowner like the one used in the Real Life Maintenance thread?

A crowner for sending things back to YKTTW? Personally, I prefer to vote with posting - less risk of unexplained votes.

The Lammio definitely needs to go back, and should not be allowed near the main wiki until it has A) a decent name, and B) more than one fictional fictional example!

Also agree on Off The Reservation. That one would probably have gotten fixed, no questions asked, at Ask The Tropers. We might want to keep this thread for borderline examples where there might be some debate.

So how does unlaunching actually work?

I'm guessing that the trope goes to YKTTW again (or takes a run through there if hasn't already and once it's run through YKTTW has been completed and it's been launched it will replace what was originally on the article. If the trope gets a rename during the YKTTW process, the previous article for the trope will either get cut (if it has no inbounds and is misleading or a bad title) or redirected to the new and improved one.

The link turns red upon unlaunching, so I think the article gets cut. There may even be a special mod-only or Eddie-only unlaunch tool for those that had a YKTTW.

My understanding is that there's an unlaunching tool that Eddie uses, but it requires there to be a YKTTW. The Lammio doesn't have a YKTTW (that I can see), so it'll have to be cut.

Wasn't aware that such a tool existed. My point stands, however. It needs serious work before it can be launched.

If there was a YKTTW draft that was launched to create the page, Eddie has an unlauncher although it's technically possible to do it yourself. I don't think the page is cut with that, but we could cutlist it if deemed necessary. If there was no draft, we copy the current page and make a draft of it.

The Unlauncher to my understanding removes the YKTTW from the launch list and puts it back into the main YKTTW list.

I also believe that's how the unlauncher works. Since The Lammio has been cut has been and it apparently has no YKTTW, should we try to brainstorm a name before we send it to the YKTTW?

Anyways, if this also covers works... what should we do about Gingitsune? It's been languishing as a tropeless stub since March of this year. It also has no wicks besides indices (and has been on Needs Wiki Magic Love almost as soon as it was namespaced two months after it was created.) I looked at the main redirect's history and since anoni seemed to be the one who made the page, I pm'ed them about it even though I knew it was pretty much moot because they haven't been active since March.

But that's not the end to this page's problems; it's description was plagiarised from Baka Updates. It's not available in English anywhere (as far I know) and hasn't been officially licensed in English either, so I'm not familiar with it at all. I would have advocated it to be cut if it didn't somehow gain 526 inbounds. I'm really don't think running it through YKTTW will save it.

I think the only thing to do there is to run it through YKTTW for trope examples and then add them to the current page.

No English translation? Cut it. It's unlikely to ever flourish unless some scan group picks it up.

With so many inbounds, that's kinda of a hard proposition.
