Do you have trouble remembering the difference between Deathbringer the Adorable and Fluffy the Terrible?

Do you have trouble recognizing when you've written a Zero-Context Example?

Not sure if you really have a Badass Bookworm or just a guy who likes to read?

Well, this is the thread for you. We're here to help you will all the finer points of example writing. If you have any questions, we can answer them. Don't be afraid. We don't bite. We all just want to make the wiki a better place for everyone.

Useful Tips:

  • Make sure that the example makes sense to both people who don't know the work AND don't know the trope.
    • Wrong: The Mentor: Kevin is this to Bob in the first episode.
    • Right: The Mentor: Kevin takes Bob under his wing in the first episode and teaches him the ropes of being a were-chinchilla.
  • Never just put the trope title and leave it at that.
    • Wrong: Badass Adorable
    • Right: Badass Adorable: Xavier, the group's cute little mascot, defeats three raging elephants with both hands tied behind his back using only an uncooked spaghetti noodle.
  • When is normally far less important than How.
    • Wrong: Big Bad: Of the first season.
    • Right: Big Bad: The heroes have to defeat the Mushroom Man lest the entirety of Candy Land's caramel supply be turned into fungus.
  • A character name is not an explanation.

For best results, please include why you think an example is iffy in your first post.

Also, many oft-misused tropes/topics have their own threads, such as Surprisingly Realistic Outcome (here) and Fan-Preferred Couple (here). Tropers are better able to give feedback on examples you bring up to specific threads.

For cleaning up examples of Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard, you must use their dedicated threads: Complete Monster Cleanup, Magnificent Bastard Cleanup.

So I have noticed that a lot of people use Clingy Jealous Girl (and Crazy Jealous Guy for that matter)for any instance a character gets a little jealous or possessive of their love interest even though that usually isnt in their nature. Is that misuse? I thought both CJG tropes were supposed to describe a character archetype

So since the consensus seems to be leaning toward this paternity test being possible somehow, I'll just leave the example off.

lol, I didn't even mention the fact that the pregnant character is male, carrying another man's baby, but hey, Mr. Seahorse already exists.

So, for VideoGame.Princess Maker 1... There's the Mountain Cat enemy, which looks like this slime girl (visible nipples) enemy, but spotted skin, a mane, tail, and clawed hands and feet.

So, that's Beast Man, right?

[down] - Yep. That. Thanks! ... That site doesn't like having its images linked...

Is Link/Zelda really a Super Couple, or do people just assume hero/heroine ships (especially when it comes to knight/princess duos)?

I'm not sure I understand the difference between Super Couple and Official Couple.

Basically an Official Couple that is iconic to the general public.

To win, you need to adapt, and to adapt, you need to be able to laugh away all the restraints. Everything holding you back.

I am moving/removing Hair Decorations' wicks and came across this in VisualNovel.Backstage Pass:

  • Hair Decs: In Nicole's route, if Sian buys the hairpin and then gives it to Nicole as a gift, she will wear it for the rest of the route, with her character portrait changing to reflect it.

Does this have enough context to be moved to Important Hair Accessory or can it be safely removed?

  • Cowboy BeBop at His Computer: A twofer:
    • The mere existence of the special was treated as an urban legend on several internet websites, leading many to post comments on the Youtube videos in shock that it actually existed.
    • It has also been said the special only aired once because it scared kids. These bumpers actually aired on four different days on Cartoon Network. The first run was on October 23rd and it was the 24 hour Where Are You marathon. It repeated then across October 30th and 31st with 30th being the movie marathon and 31st being the Scrappy marathon. Then once more on November 27th for the premiere of Scooby-Doo! and the Witch's Ghost.

Is that the right trope? Isn't it Pop-Culture Urban Legends?

[up][up] Hence why it's YMMV.

Does this count even though one character is blushing around the other one in some scenes?

I guess that's not blatant enough? But presumably of note...

[up]Perverse Sexual Lust would mean a character having a crush on an in-universe fictional character.

I found this under Joe Nezo on Characters.Prison School. The Chick is Always Female, but I'm not sure this fits The Heart either:

  • The Chick: Of the five boys. His weak constitution makes him a constant source of worry to the other four and he tends to be the most emotionally vulnerable of the group.

[up] - So, as written, the trope... Would count?

Although, one character did call a Fictional Video Game character, "beautiful"... So, in actuality, it doesn't?

No Hugging, No Kissing isn't "romance doesn't happen". It's "the show makes it clear that romance will never happen".

Trouble Cube continues to be a general-purpose forum for those who desire such a thing.

There should probably be an expectation that romance could occur, too. Not a guarantee if it's a kids show.

From UnPerson.Real Life

  • On This Very Wiki, pages that casually mention or have a page quote from certain celebrities tend to be edited to remove any mention of them should said celebrity get involved with a career-destroying scandal or controversy, particularly if removing the mentioned celebrity does not have any major effect on the article.

Is this a valid example or should we remove it?

Would individual films in a film series count as arcs? I'm asking for tropes like Arc Villain, if the baddies of individual films count so long as they're only in the one flick.

Is there any definition of the trope that makes this recent addition valid?

  • Values Dissonance: Audiences in Europe and East Asia might not get the Olive Garden Product Placement, as said restaurant chain only operates in the US, certain countries in the Americas, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates. The French version just refers to it as "Italian restaurant".
