A tragically forgotten 80s pop star, I was first introduced to Ms. Branigan through GTA Vice City's Flash FM radio station which featured "Self-Control", one of her biggest hits.

Since then (it's been almost ten years) I've become a much bigger fan of hers. I generally like 80s pop but few artists snag me so that I call myself an actual fan of theirs. Laura is an example of one of those proud few and I think she really stands the test of time. A lot of people like 80s pop because of its cheesiness but Ms. Branigan was a very talented singer in my opinion and so her songs are genuinely appealing to me.

This is probably her best known song. I debated about whether or ot to post a lesser-known but equally great piece but I finally settled on this because not only is it good, it really does show off her lovely voice.

I don't expect many posts... As I said she's mostly lost to time. however I thought it was the least i could do to show my respect for a talented songstress who died far too soon.

So THAT'S who does that song!! I've been trying to figure that out forever! For as long as I can remember I've always heard it on the local radio station my family and I always listen to. (This station pretty much plays everything from the '80s through to today, so long as it's upbeat; it's like the anti-oldies station.)

I know I've heard her name before, but I don't quite remember anything about what I've heard about her.

Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle.

After hearing the two biggest radio singles ("Gloria" and "Self Control"), I realized that I kinda liked Laura Branigan's music. But I haven't looked into her seven albums, except for borrowing one CD from a library some time ago.

A lot of her tunes were actually cover versions of European hits, including her two biggest hits (“Gloria” and “Self Control”) and this song, which you may recognize from its more faithful cover by After the Fire:

I'm a little late 'cuz I suck with dates but it's now been ten years since this glorious talent was taken from us far too soon.

RIP Laura. You are the greatest gem of 80s music as far as I'm concerned.

This thread actually introduced me to who Laura Branigan was at some point - like I knew about the songs she sang, but never the artist. I just found a version of Forever Young she did which is absolutely spectacular, and after that I found a version of Don't Cry For Me Argentina which is even better.

It's really a surprise that we lost such a talent to such a random and unfortunate circumstance.
