White Wolf Tengu IN SPACE

Momiji was working together with her Cerberus, Momiji's long-honed battle instincts cooperating nicely with the on-board computer's target tracking and powerful weaponry. The fighters had hardly been a challenge compared to the state-of-the-art R-13A.

"...okay, this is going good. Just the biggest one left, save for all these fairies. But I don't thing we can scratch it with the weapons we've got. Or do you have something stronger than the Lightning Wave?"

The Lightning Wave Cannon had proved very useful against the fighters, the homing beam of destructive energy arching from ship to ship leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.

" Affirmative, Momiji. The Force Unit's DOSE-meter is full. Ready to deploy Delta Weapon: Hysteric Dawn."

The strange Force unit that was flying alongside the R-Type had been eating pieces of fighters as they flew, and had absolutely gorged itself on pieces of the frigate. The biological armament was now glowing red with stored-up energy.

"Sounds good. What does it do?"

" When deployed, a dimensional rift will temporarily slice through material space and obliterate everything nearby."

Momiji considered this for a moment. Sounded like a Spell card.

"Uhm...and we know for sure that's what it'll do?"

" Negative, Momiji. While power output is approximate maximum, actual power readings are lower than normal. Some sort of inhibitor may be affecting our weaponry."

Momiji nodded. She thought that weapon sounded too good to be true. Anyway, attacks like that didn't usually defeat the boss in one shot.

"Okay...we'll deploy it right on top of that battleship, then!"

" Affirmative. Setting course..."

The R-Type blazed through the smaller fighters, heading for the Battleship. Momiji focused fully on evasive movements, using all she knew of danmaku duelling to get closer to that optimal location.

Toyosatomimi no Miko

Miko was mostly unharmed by everything the Operator was throwing at everybody, being able to fly made the conveyor belts and the gravity reversal not change much for her and being able to attack from a safe distance was also doing her a lot of good. Seeing as how the Operator was relying on just natural defense instead of trying to not get hit by them made it quite clear that her victory was almost guaranteed.

Seeing as how most of the others were ganging on the Operator, it was unwise to use a powerful spell card without risking injuring the others needlessly. For that reason, she decided to just contribute a little, rending the air with a swift slash from her sword and from that rend fire some light bullets at the Operator.

Admiral Linkara - Space Battle

"Information: The enemy frigate has been destroyed. Also, the forward lance is ready to fire. "

Linkara grinned as he leaned in his chair, clasping his hands. “Lets finish this. Nimue, transfer power from the neutron cannons and the force wall to the engines, then bank around and get us in front of the damaged spinal weapon. Lets shove this down their throat.”

"Affirmative. Maneuvering."

The fire from the ship’s Neutron Cannons ceased as Comicron-1’s engines flared. The ship suddenly surged ahead, blazing through space as it banked around, following the dreadnought’s spinal weapon as it tried to orient the weapon away from Comicron-1's weapons. The ship rocketed through space until it was ahead of the prow of the turning dreadnought, before it began to spin back towards it, bringing its deadly forward energy lance to bear.

Linkara’s grin grew as the prow of the dreadnought came into view on the monitor. “Nimue!” he called out as he dramatically stood up in his chair, before raising a clenched fist. “Fire the forward lance!”

"Affirmative. Firing main weapon."

Energy began building up at the tip of Comicron-1’s forward lance, space around the weapon warping, before a bright green energy beam of immense power was fired from the barrel, shooting through space and causing ripples in its wake as it blasted head-on towards the damaged needle.

Space

Fifteen targets down and counting.

Noel really couldn't do much else. In truth, this was her first true life or death scenario. She'd had combat training and other such exercises before, but the stress of a real battle was new.

Twenty.

But no, she wasn't the one fighting. It was something else entirely. She was never sure what it was, she just gave in to it, and let the sparks and bloodshed fly.

Twenty five.

They'd always been there with her. They'd always been the ones protecting her. And she wasn't going to let go of them any second. Her Nox Nyctores...

Thirty.

And so it was just another day at work for the Bolverk.

Spider-Man - The Lobby - Ceiling

After his impact, Spider-Man reeled in pain. His vision was blurred and, outside of the sheer amount of pain throughout much of his body (which, contrary to popular sentiment was most certainly not just weakness leaving the body), he felt a bit lightheaded. As his vision became clearer, he groaned as lifted his torso up off the skylight and he tried to shake the wooziness off and get his bearings.

Ugh. Did someone get the license plate of that truck?

A couple of seconds later, once his vision finally cleared up and his lightheadedness was mostly gone, he saw the Operator heading in his general direction, blades swinging. With this, he shot up from the cracked glass and instinctively leaped up to the chandelier, clinging to its side with his feet while outstretching his arms in the Operator's direction and shooting out web lines directed at each of his blades in an attempt to keep them away from the Operator's target.

Operator Fight

Shampoo saw her opening... He overextended himself with his swords which, had Shampoo being fighting directly, she could dodge and exploit. Seeing Oswald coming to the same conclusion, she timed her own kick to coincide with his, adding more power to the one chance they had.

Operator fight

Altair continued backing away, even as the Operator descended upon him. Once again, Altair realized just how much easier a time he would be having with this if he still had his sword, as his best course of action to deflect the already heavy and unpredictable attacks was his pistol. Thus he also kept stepping back, trying to just avoid the Operator's overextending attacks, but a few blows still glanced the assassin's torso, dripping a trail of blood as he backed away.

But then the others were acting. The man in the slick red suit (Altair thought he heard something about him being a "spider man"? Whatever, now wasn't the time to think about it.) was shooting more of that webbing at the Operator, trying to disrupt his swords, while both Oswald and Shampoo were jump kicking at the Operator's back to shove him forward. Perfect.

Hoping to meet the Operator's forward stumble, Altair suddenly rushed forward, finally bringing his right arm up and around, adding the swing and his forward movement into the momentum, and aiming the wrist blade right for the Operator's gut.

The only problems with this plan, as Altair did not yet see, were two of the other combatants firing some kind of light bullets and a large beam of fire at the Operator. The same one that Altair was soon about to be within kissing distance of if his action went as planned.

Space Fight!

The surviving TIE fighters abruptly broke off their attacks and made a beeline for the beleagured battleship. At first it wasn't obvious what they were hoping to achieve, but all became clear as the fighters flew in a tight formation in an attempt to act as a flimsy ablative shield for the surviving capital vessel. Their maneuvers were almost too precise; they flew almost in straight lines and turned in what were nearly 90 degree angles.

However, it was nearly useless in the face of Comicron-1's forward lance. The TIEs simply vaporised, the energy too much for their spindly, fragile frames to possibly contain. The green beam had barely slowed as it slammed into the needle remnants, boring a hole almost clean through the Nomad battleship's hull.

The return fire from the ship sputtered, faltered, and then finally died. If their ships had powerful enough sensors, they may have noticed that the Nomad battleship's energy output had decreased significantly across the board. However, there was a spike of power where the engines were located.

The Nomad battleship lurched forward unsteadily, then began to accelerate at a rapid pace. The capital ship was practically dead at this point, large chunks of its superstructure either breaking off entirely or wreathed in unnatural purple fire. It didn't take a genius to realise the Nomad battleship intended to ram Comicron-1 or die trying in a desperate, last ditch maneuver.

Against this latest threat, the impromptu pilots might have understandably missed the appearance of several new contacts - all of which showed up as "friendly", bar one: this last contact merely showed up as ???. This gaggle of signals were placed directly between the Nomad vessel and Comicron-1...

The Operator

Once again, the Operator found himself beset by a flurry of attacks. With his attention so single-mindedly fixed upon Altair, the Operator did not notice Oswald and Shampoo's kicks, which sent him stumbling forward right into the path of Sunny's fiery shot, not to mention Miko's light bullets. Spider-Man's webs jerked the Operator's blades off to one side, giving Altair all the opening he needed to slide his Hidden Blade into the man's torso. The Assassin might have noticed that the flesh was unnaturally hard at first, though his blade met less resistance as he thrust further in.

The Operator began shouting what might have been a battle cry, or a curse, or something else entirely, but Sunny's special attack cut him off. In the last moment before impact, those closest to their jailer spotted the purple traces flaring up with light once again. However, it was only Altair who saw the immediate reason for this: the explosion bent, curving itself so that it only came into contact with the Operator.

The next reason asserted itself almost immediately afterwards as the glare of the blast subsided; the hall, in all its destroyed finery, was rapidly disassembling itself. Megaman allowed himself to wonder if they had finally beaten him. This guy was tough, but I knew we could -

He was interrupted mid-thought by the fact that everyone (including the Operator) was rocketing upward to meet the space battle winding down "above" them. As the stomach churning acceleration subsided, the Robot Master realised something: though it didn't matter to him, there was a breathable atmosphere around them. What's this guy playing at? he wondered.

The group eventually ground to a stop right in front of the advancing Nomad battleship, everything around them bright and vivid - almost uncomfortably so. Closer inspection might have made them realise that time had frozen. The air around the Operator was heavily distorted with heat; despite his obvious pain and the fact that they had evidently given him a thrashing, he was smiling.

" Wow... I haven't had something like that in a long time. You know what? I like you all. You've got the will to survive... unlike the last group. You've got style, too." He jabbed his index finger at the party. " I hate to leave so soon, but I think your buddies are missing you, don't you? We'll meet again, I'll make sure of that. I'll see if I can make it more interesting, too."

His face grew more serious as he surveyed the scene around him. " Since I don't want to see you all getting splattered so soon, here's a little help: as soon as I unfreeze time, you will find yourself able to 'fly' through space by concentrating. It won't last for long, though; perhaps long enough for you to get to Comicron-1 over there." He pointed out the ship. " Ready? 3... 2... 1... action!"

He snapped his fingers, and the view abruptly returned to normal. What the man said was true; Megaman (and the party) found that they could "fly" after a fashion. However, they would need to get the hang of it quickly to avoid the battleship that was cruising towards them. If the Operator was concerned, he didn't show it - instead, his mouth was fixed in a cocky grin, and he made no move to avoid the Nomad battleship.

The battleship will be destroyed after one further powerful attack; feel free to make it flashy and give it everything you've got, folks!

Outer Space

Axton noted the unidentified contacts popping up on his radar, but all of them were friendlies besides the question-marked one, and there was a more pressing concern. The capital ship the group had was going to be suicide-rammed by the Battleship; fortunately, what remained of the fighters had been dispersed like the cheap things they were.

Axton keyed the mic as he set the VTOL to stationary. "That ship's going to ram Comicron! Everyone concentrate fire on it!" He pulled the trigger for the stream laser even as he charged and unleashed the first in a series of homing missile barrages.

Admiral Linkara - Space Battle

Linkara’s face broke into a wide grin as the beam of the forward lance carved through the dreadnought like a hot knife through butter, piercing right through the spinal needle and cutting through the ship’s hull. He pumped his fist before taking a few steps towards the viewscreen, getting a closer look at the damage his ship did.

“I’d like to see them get up from that one. Nimue, what’s the status of the enemy vessel?”

"Information: Weapons fire from the enemy dreadnought has ceased, and energy readings across the entire vessel have plummeted. The forward lance appears to have dealt a crippling blow."

Linkara smirked, crossing his arms as he stared at the screen. “Excellent. Nimue, bring the neutron cannons back online. Lets finish this thing o-”

"Standby, I am detecting new readings from the enemy dreadnought." Nimue interrupted, cutting Linkara off, before pausing for a moment. "Alert! The enemy dreadnought is powering engines, it is on a collision course!"

“What?!” Linkara shouted, eyes widening as he watched the dreadnought lurk forward, debris breaking off from its hull as it rapidly picked up speed. He swore under his breath and grit his teeth, before whirling around and striding back to his chair.

“Nimue, divert power to thrusters and weapons, blast that thing until it stops moving and get us out of the way.” he ordered mid-stride, quickly sitting down in his chair and clasping his hands as he watched the viewscreen. “Recharge the forward lance, dump power from the emergency capacitors into it if you have to, and get ready to divert power to the force wall!”

"Affirmative."

Comicron-1’s thrusters flared up as its cannons resumed firing on the dreadnought, neutron blasts blazing through empty space and pounding into its crumbling hull. Comicron-1’s thrusters began to ascend the vessel, attempting to maneuver out of the way of the speeding dreadnought dreadnought, all while energy once again began building up in the lance.

"Alert! Several friendly contacts have appeared between the dreadnought and Comicron-1, as well as one unknown."

“What?! Hold your fire! Bring them onscreen!”

The screen flashed, switching from a view of the dreadnought to the newly arrived group between the two ships. Linkara’s brow furrowed and his mouth opened slightly in confusion at the sight.

“How in the...They’re in space! How are they out there without spacesuits or something?! Without decompressing at least?” he asked out loud, incredulous.

"Unknown."

“I...Just...Gah, whatever, trying to make sense of this place is going to give me a headache.” grumbled Linkara, muttering something about magic and not needing to explain it. “Get ready to teleport them into the ship if possible, I think it’d be rather bad if they ended up splattered on the dreadnought like bugs on a car window.” He rubbed his forehead and closed his eyes. “Also, resume fire, but avoid hitting any of them with a stray neutron blast.”

"Affirmative."

When she was released into space, Shampoo decided to try to swim towards Comicron-1. Oddly enough, she was pretty happy... She gets a chance to once more swim as a human. It was something that she missed since she was cursed to become a cat with cold water. She reasoned out that flying was just like swim only in the air instead of the water.

Still racking up quite the killcount, Noel, still under the influence of her weapons, nodded quickly to Axton.

"Roger that."

Her voice came out in an almost monotone manner. Perhaps just this once, Noel seemed like an actually talented soldier. Her trigger finger was itching, and she let loose all fire on the incoming ship, hopefully helping to take it down before it rammed into them.

Spider-Man - Space

While he was relieved to see that the fight against the Operator had ended with no fatalities, Peter was surprised by the events that followed: an explosion, the destruction of the hall, and everyone being dragged out into the middle of a winding-down space battle. At this point, while Peter realized that the Operator was almost certainly the reason why everyone was still breathing, but he wasn't sure how the Operator was doing it (or, really, anything that the Operator had done today). He chalked it up to just part of the general weirdness that seemed to be going on lately and ignored it. There were more pressing concerns, anyway. Like the gigantic battleship that would have crashed into the ragtag band of heroes if the Operator had not frozen time and granted the group the ability to "fly" in space.

When the Operator resumed the normal flow of time, Spider-Man acted on instinct. He immediately fired two web lines from his wrists at the ship that the Operator called "Comicron-1". When they landed, he used them to propel himself forward like a slingshot. He hoped this would get him out of the way of the other battleship and thus avoid being either splattered or fired upon.

Operator fight

Altair registered the resistance, simply figuring it to be some sort of armor, but the effect of the purple traces really caught the assassin's attention. It seemed bizarre to the assassin that the Operator would use his defensive to redirect an attack away from his opponent... Unless...

As they suddenly started falling down from their flipped position, and seeing that the hall was rapidly disappearing, Altair withdrew the wristblade and pushed away from the Operator; he did then get his pistol ready and aimed at the Operator again though, just in case.

As the Operator explained himself and the fact that he'd let them 'fly', Altair quickly glanced at the Comicron-1. Had the Operator not just shown himself to pointedly not want them dead, Altair wouldn't have listened, but as it was when the Operator resumed time, Altair quickly concentrated and tried to get himself moving towards the Comicron-1.

At first he tried doing running and a sort of swimming motion, but neither seemed very successful. After a moment of thought, he put his legs together and straightened them, and held his arms out, like the start of one of his leaps of faith. This produced a much better result. Unlike whoever may have been wondering why they could breathe out in this space, Altair wasn't; for one, that wasn't something he even knew about, but for two he had already been out in space without a suit just fine today.

G, literally in space

The NCIS agent found himself in space, literally, without any kind of space gear on.

Can't literally wait to explain all of this to the others.

G placed his hands on his side and his legs together as he "aimed" for the Comicron-1 as his destination. Hopefully, he can get there without being turned into some kind of human paste.

His pace was getting a bit faster and faster, so G should be able to reach it in time.

Momiji Inubashiri - Space Battle

Having pierced through the curtain of bullets, Momiji was surprised to see that the return fire from the battleship was stopping. Well, it would only make everything easier. She had a quick look on her map, and found that a group of "Friendly" units had appeared not far away from the Battleship.

"Hey, Cerberus! We're not going to hit them, are we?"

"Negative. Friendly targets outside of range. Also exempted from targeting."

"Right, okay! Let's go, then! DELTA-"

"Voice command disabled. Please push button to activate Delta Weapon."

Momiji was quiet for a while.

"Cerberus?"

"Yes?"

"Don't interrupt a good Spell Card declaration."

"Affirmative."

The tengu smiled again and gripped hold of the controls. Sailing up along the Battleship, she dramatically hovered her finger over the button.

"DELTA WEAPON! HYSTERIC DAWN!"

Momiji's finger pressed the button and almost immediately, the Force Unit lit up. Two great energy beams erupted from nowhere, easily twice as long as the Cerberus fighter. The beams were about the thickness of tree-trunks, and glowed with alien energy. For a moment, they were still, aligning themselves with the length of the battleship. Then they spun.

Momiji viewed the spectacle from the safe abode of her fighter as she boosted away from the battleship. The beams spun and twirled, the energy beams viciously cutting at the battleship's plating and modules. For a moment, Momiji thought their movement was random, but she then realized that between them, they were effectively cutting a grid in the air, as if cutting off escape possibilities or to avoid focusing on heavily armoured parts. Had she used that on the smaller fighters, she was sure they'd have reduced to small bits and pieces. As for how the Battleship fared, well, that depended on how far the beams could cut through the armour.

Megaman — SPAAAAAAAAAAAAACE!

The Nomad battleship survived the barrage for roughly three seconds before the combination of Comicron-1's firepower and the Cerberus's Hysteric Dawn had the desired effect. The energy beams acted as gigantic scalpels, excising massive chunks of burning, crumpling material with almost casual ease. One of the lasers strayed across the energy core in the battleship's rear, and set a chain reaction of off-purple explosions racing up the vessel's hull, causing it to burst like an over-ripe fruit.

The Operator didn't waver even as he was engulfed by a stream of magenta fire. When it cleared he - and the battleship - was no longer there, though the debris stood silent testament to what had transpired. Megaman had only temporarily stopped to admire his friends' handiwork. He still had to reach Comicron-1, after all.

The Robot Master didn't even notice the tingling sensation as Nimue teleported himself - and the others - inside Comicron-1. Though he didn't need to breathe, Rock released a ragged sigh of relief as he hit the floor. "T-that was close..."

If you wanted to do it yourself, Liirian, I'll happily edit.

Space

Axton let out a loud whoop as he watched the battleship self-destruct. It had been due to Comicron's laser beam and that one fighter somehow firing lasers bigger than it was (how the fuck did they do that and where can I buy the gun that does it, thought he), but he didn't care; the battleship was dead.

"We iced 'em, boys! Good work out there, let's get onto Comicron!"

The VTOL turned and began to head back to Comicron.

Momiji - Mission Accomplished, Returning to Mothership

Momiji cheered happily as the ship computer took over and set the course for the Comicron. That was fun! She made a mental note of trying to make a Spell Card like that for later. Lasers weren't her strong point, but maybe she could ask the kappa. They were good with lasers. Outside her craft, the Force Unit, now exhausted of its power, attached itself to the Cerberus' hull as it started docking procedures at the Comicron.

Admiral Linkara - Comicron 1

Linkara watched with wide eyes as Momiji unleashed a massively powerful weapon, one likely magical in nature, on the dreadnought. When the energy beams erupted around the ship, he actually jumped back in his chair a bit, before watching silently as the combination of those beams and his own cannons started to make short work of the dreadnought.

“Um...Nimue, I think you can power down the forward lance. Looks like we won’t need it.” Linkara ordered, slightly miff that he wasn’t going to be able to unleash the main gun one last time. Only slightly though, he couldn’t complain too much. The fight was over after all.

"Affirmative. Information: Teleporter is locked on to the friendlies outside of Comicron-1, ready to bring them aboard."

Linkara nodded, sitting up from his chair and straightening his uniform. “Right. Beam them onto the bridge Nimue.”

A *wssh* filled the room as the teleporter activated, the people floating out in space suddenly being ‘wiped’ from reality, before reappearing on the bridge, as if someone painted them back into reality with one stroke of a brush. Linkara turned around to greet them, a wide grin on his face.

“Welcome aboard Comicron-1 everyone, good to see you’re all well.” he greeted them, clapping his hands together. “I’m assuming you guys took care of whatever our ‘hosts’ threw at you? If anyone needs medical attention I have facilities on here that can tend to you.”

Meanwhile, as Axton, Momiji, and anyone else in a fighter approached Comicron-1, they’d find the hangar doors opening for them, welcoming them inside the ship.

As soon as Shampoo was transported, she seemed to check her own body to see if everything was there. Mousse tended to collect horror films which he strangely thinks is appropriate for a date with her.

Space Battle Over

It took at least half a minute for Noel to wake up from her battle induced trance. By the time she did, it was all over and there was literally nothing left of the threat.

"Whew...looks like we did it..."

So this is what combat feels like?

Noel gave what she did some thought and shook her head. Didn't she initially want to avoid being drafted into a combat position in the NOL? Her parents had insisted, and she agreed with them. And yet, fate had decided her ars magus aptitude was too high for that. And judging from her performance today, she wasn't totally unprepared. Still, today was just her pointing a gun at things and shooting from the safety of a ship. She'd probably have to get up close and personal sooner or later, and she knew this.

Sighing, Noel decided that this couldn't be helped. Play the cards you're dealt with after all. For now she slumped into her seat and waited for Axton to land the ship.

Linkara turned to Shampoo, a somewhat serious expression appearing on his face as he brought a hand to his chin.

"Well, there was that one incident with that cat..." he said thoughtfully for a moment, before a grin broke out on his face again and he chuckled. "Nah, I'm just joking, you're fine. Never had anything happen with this thing before. Plus, the teleporter basically works by changing your body's spatial coordinates, so to speak. It doesn't break you down or anything, so there isn't a danger if it mixing and matching what it's teleporting." he explained, trying to calm Shampoo's fears.

"Okay?" Shampoo looked confused, but seemed to be satisfied with the explanation Linkara gave her. The technobabble flew over her head, but the simple explanation of it not breaking her down into component material made sense to her.

Axton

Space

As Axton came in on an approach, he looked back to Noel. "We kicked ass out there! Nice shooting, I don't think the Sabre could have done much better in that environment!" She was slouching. Obviously she was a bit hung up about combat.

Axton, despite the Crimson Lance helmet on him, tried his best to be reassuring. "Think about it this way, Noel. It was us or them, and you picked us. And frankly, I'm glad you did. Pep up, you did well." Even though she looked far too young to fight, if she wanted to fight, Axton wasn't going to stop her. Pandora had definitely made him see worse - and weirder.

Far, far weirder.

For now, he silently guided the VTOL into the hangar bays and flipped a switch to deploy the landing skids. Switching to VTOL mode, he flew into the hangar bay as smoothly as possible, and found a nice parking spot, before easing back on the accelerator until gravity took over. The VTOL fighter slowly dropped down and touched steel, and Axton let himself relax a little bit, forming into the seat as he popped the cockpit and the ladders.

"Seven is here too, dressed like the concept of choosing clothes that look nice together was an arcane secret far beyond their grasp."
