Why can't you make it?

Anyone who assigns themselves loads of character tropes is someone to be worried about.

Meg Turney has amicably resign with Rooster Teeth to focus more on her cosplay and modelling.

[up]I was asking because it's sponsor/first only so I don't know what the policy is for that kind of thing on here.

It requiring a subscription service to watch makes it no different from something like Game of Thrones or Daredevil.

Has Fails of the Weak been discontinued or something? It's been well over a month since any new episodes have come out, and RT hasn't said anything on the matter.

A few web videos have noted that reviews on Glassdoor (the work review website) for RT have gone in the toilet particularly since the WB merger. Cited issues include cliques, 100+ hour workweeks ala the game industry’s infamous crunches, and hiring unqualified people from Tumblr instead of qualified workers and managers.

This isn’t meant to be drama importation, but questions about their quality and viability given the merger.

[up] Sadly, I can't say that I'm surprised. Employees have been talking about crunch on Twitter for ages now, back when they were still independent, not to mention how the quality of their content plummeted once they were acquired since they immediately adopted a "quantity over quality" mentality.

The attitude RT puts out in their promotional material and social media does seem like it would encourage cliques, now that I think about it. Their super-casual attitude was fine when it was <10 people in an office playing Halo, but as a full-fledged production studio? No. That's a recipe for disaster.

The official word is that Haddock is stepping down to handle a “purely creative role” (which I presume means gen:LOCK. ) Apparently the man isn’t a proper animator.

Far less encouraging is “Margaret M. Dean, the head of Ellation animation studios (a sibling company to RT ever since the AT&T/Time Warner merger last year) and president of Women in Animation, will assist them in finding a replacement.”. Ignoring that Ellation is kind of redundant, many people blame WIA for the hiring of unqualified Tumblr users in creative and executive roles, and that Elation’s one announced product is internet Snark Bait, why does a sister company get to decide who has executive oversight?

For anyone who isn't aware of what Beatman means by Snark Bait, they're referring to High Guardian Spice, a Crunchyroll-exclusive show that so far has only been advertised on the basis of it's creative team consisting only of women.

This has lead to mockery of it since nothing about the actual plot of the show has revealed, and the whole creative team just consisting of women comes off as grandstanding and arguably sexist.

A rose by any other name would smell as sweet Unless I grew it. In that case, throw it in the trash.

I can't see anything particularly good or bad about Haddock leaving since RT's animated output has always been a huge mixed bag. Unless it means less crunch, then that's good.

why does a sister company get to decide who has executive oversight?

Dean's just consulting. Rooster Teeth will presumably have the final say.

Including Andy Blanchard :(

Lots of people are blaming RT for it due to all their acquisitions and stuff but I think it was more RT's own parent companies deciding everyone needed to downsize.

They also had three years of extreme growth, so this feels a bit like them bringing things down to a maintainable level going forward. That they have quietly cancelled or put a few shows on hiatus this year also contributes to that feeling.

I've also heard they've laid off the entire RT games department, which accounts for about half of the 13% laid off.

Specifically they have moved from executive roles to creative ones in the new part of the company.

I'm a little over the doomsday proclamations over every little thing.

You can't ignore the fact that something is going on between the layoffs, people leaving of their own volition, and restructuring.

All this in such a short time period isn't painting a pretty picture.
