MK9 isn't much better, though. Midway/Netherrealm didn't really "get woke" (read: start caring about diversity and representation in their video games) until MKX.

Well they kind of cared for a while when they specifically created Jax and Sonya because specifically for racial and gender diversity in the first two games but then stopped trying right around when they brought in Nightwolf.

Kinda but not that much since in 90 it was very comon to have token minorities, what is impresive is is american game with just two white chararter(three if we count kano retcon into australina following the movie), with the rest be very asian.

Sonya Blade and Kano have been cast and Lewis Tan joins the film in a unknown role[1] Maybe Shang Tsung or Kuai Liang

Apparently he has played as Kung Jin a couple of times, so maybe he'll be Kung Lao?

He's probably Scorpion.

Hiroyuki Sanada is playing Scorpion, and Chin Han is playing Shang Tsung.

Sanada is probably going to get a body double for the Scorpion stuff.

Having seen Season 1 of Marco Polo, yeah he can pull off Shang Tsung.

I just wonder if they'll go for the beard this time. My one complaint about Cary Tagawa's otherwise iconic portrayal was the lack of facial hair.

After his recent tweet, people seem to think Lewis Tan will be Kung Lao.

Why him specifically? Especially since he has a pretty extensive background in martial arts cinema.

Nitara will be in the movie.

...that's surprising.

I mean, it's cool, more female representation will help keep this film from feeling like a sausagefest. Even the most progressive entry on the list, Mortal Kombat X, still only has seven and a half female characters in a roster of 33.

But it's a surprising choice of character. Nitara's fairly obscure and never really did much to—

Ohhh, she's a cannon fodder character 'cause they're gonna need folks they can kill off in a Mortal Kombat movie, huh? I gotcha.

At first I didn't know who Nitara was until I looked her up, but now I remember her from Deadly Alliance, and she was a very cool character from Deadly Alliance. That's cool because Deadly Alliance was the first Mortal Kombat game I played.

Yeah, While Nitara isnt remenber for her desing(she look desing by a devianart user) or her gameplay(is not that great), her story it foundly remeber as one of the best, a B plot with Repltile and Cyrax that show how she move, and it conected to awaking of Onaga.

That's a deep cut. We'll probably get some of the other obscure characters to show up just for fight scene montages.

I really want to be more optimistic than that.

I like Nitara too, but C-List Fodder is a trope for a reason.

I mean is hard to said because she have one of the best story of the entire franchinse, involing her, reptile and cyrax in deadly aliance.

But then again is very dificult they will adapt deadly aliance as it is.

True. But honestly, I wouldn't have even expected her to appear in this movie at all so that does give me some hope that she's more than just canon fodder.

Well, a thing of nitara is that she have a crysta that allow to travel into realms so that is something, also she want o save her people.

I mean is not like the movie were scorpion and sub zero are just mooks and fight folder.
