To be fair, Shirou saving Sakura at the expense of hundreds of innocent people was not portrayed as the right thing to do. ...But if you like your protagonist doing the right thing, sucks to be you.
OTOH he also gets punished if he tries to do the right thing and just end her
Which also sucks
From what I remember, the right choice in the HF story is to try to turn Sakura into your waifu and fuck everything else.
"You can't change the world without getting your hands dirty."Wait, so are you fucking your waifu and everything else, or fucking everything but your waifu?
Is this a game of Fuck/Marry/Kill?
The sad, REAL American dichotomyIt's not even about all the innocent people dying and whether that was moral. The issue on a micro-level is that people don't grow when they have to be looked after and constantly have their actions corrected by the interference of others. The only option in HF is to watch over Sakura and make the choices for her instead of helping her grow as a person. Shirou, Rider, Rin...everyone has to take care of her. Even therapy is meant to lead you into understanding how to cope with trauma and overcome it - not turn you co-dependent. Other people can be the catalyst for change but in the end, you have to make the choice yourself.
It's kind of telling when her objection to Shinji trying to rape her is "I'm senpai's now!". Are you nothing by an extension to Shirou? Not to mention her constant moaning over Rin. And I have truly grown to hate the Ill Girl trope over the years - Stephen King had the right idea about it.
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerOne thing that bugs me about the Sonic fandom is the complaints that there's too many characters (some of these have died down).
So here's every time a major non-Sonic character was ever playable in a mainline note Sonic game. Since Sonic 06, Tails has been playable twice, "& Knuckles", Metal Sonic, Shadow, and Blaze once each:
- Tails: Sonic 2 (1992), Sonic 3 (1994), Adventure (1998), Adventure 2 (2001), Advance (2001), Advance 2 (2002), Heroes (2003), Advance 3 (2004), Sonic 4 Episode II (2012), Mania (2017)
- Knuckles: & Knuckles (1994), Adventure (1998), Adventure 2 (2001), Advance (2001), Advance 2 (2002), Heroes (2003), Advance 3 (2004), Mania (2017)
- Amy: Adventure (1998), Advance (2001), Advance 2 (2002), Heroes (2003), Advance 3 (2004)
- Shadow: Adventure 2 (2001), Heroes (2003), '06 (2006), Forces (2017, DLC "Episode Shadow")
- Cream: Advance 2 (2002), Heroes (2003), Advance 3 (2004)
- Rouge: Adventure 2 (2001), Heroes (2003)
- Blaze: Rush (2005), Rush Adventure (2007)
- Eggman: Adventure 2 (2001)
- Metal Sonic: Sonic 4 Episode II (2012 DLC "Episode Metal Sonic")
Separately, people keep acting like Sonic 06, the worst game in the series, was also the most recent game in the series. Since that game, the mainline series has seen the Sonic-only games Unleashed (daytime stages were well received, Werehog sections were only poorly received for being different), Colors (well received), Generations (very well received), and Lost World (eh), in addition to the aforementioned Rush Adventure, Sonic 4, Mania, and Forces.
So basically, since Sonic 06 came out, Sega have spent 14 years listening to fan responses, cutting out playable characters, retooling Sonic's gameplay, and even adding fun features like "create your OC", and the Wisps... but it's not enough for an Unpleasable Fanbase who basically make the series Never Live It Down off one game. ...I hate being a reverse-Fan Hater for one of my favorite game series.
On another note, I did some rewriting and reorganizing of the Gravity Screw page. Some people act like Super Mario Galaxy invented gravity changes in games, when Sonic's been doing it regularly, since his first game, and isn't even the only game to do so.

The sad, REAL American dichotomyWait, what was Stephen King's idea on Ill Girls?
I've only ever read "It" and "The Dark Tower".
"You can't change the world without getting your hands dirty.""Too many characters" sounds like a weird complaint to me.
Me too. Like "Oh no, this universe is well rounded with multiple gameplay options that aren't a requirement outside of 100% completion, except for the one time that it introduced two beloved characters an let us play as the villain for the first time in a game that was well received!"
I would like to see the Chao Garden come back, though. Especially to see Chao interacting with Wisps (instead of the "Chaos Drives" used in Sonic Adventure 2).
As for my own fan gripe, I'm a bit annoyed that the 3DS version of Sonic Generations, a celebration of the series' history, only had one handheld exclusive stage out of the 7 playable stages. If it were me plotting it out, I'd have done: Imagine if the 3DS version of Generations had more of the handheld games:
- Game Gear Era:
- Green Hill (Sonic 1)
- Sleeping Egg (Sonic Chaos)
- Sunset Park (Sonic Triple Trouble)
- Rival Battle: Fang the Sniper (Sonic Triple Trouble)
- Boss: Big Arms (Sonic 3)
- GBA Era:
- Egg Rocket (Advance 1)
- Music Plant (Advance 2)
- Chaos Angel (Advance 3)
- Rival Battle: Gemerl (Advance 3)
- Boss: ... I want to say Emerl, but that would be too heartbreaking
- DS Era:
- Water Palace (Rush)
- Haunted Ship (Rush Adventure)
- Starlight Carnival (Colors)
- Rival Battle: Blaze the Cat
- Boss: Ghost Titan (Rush Adventure)

The sad, REAL American dichotomyI think I accidentally unfollowed this thread.
How's everyone?
That's a lot of Sonic games.
I'm good, and I recently ran into the individual formerly known as the troper Cruherrx on Steam, and he seems to be good, too.
The sad, REAL American dichotomyThat's good news!
I've been ungodly busy with work and preparing to move. I swear, I hate making boxes. And I have a feeling I might move again next year so I feel that all of this transitioning effort is kind of weak.
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerI get that. I've temporarily moved back to Texas, and that took ALL. WEEKEND. just to put my stuff in storage.
As for boxes, if your country has Costco, I strongly recommend their storage crates (...unless they break in my locker while I'm not there... that'd suck. But I doubt that'll happen.

The sad, REAL American dichotomyCru? Haven't heard that name in years.
Glad to hear he's doing well.
You don't realize how much stuff you own until you have to move.

I had to pack everything in my room in boxes because of bedbugs.
So I can certain sympathize with the 'way too many boxes' sentiment. My books alone took up three big-ass boxes.
"Canada Day is over, and now begins the endless dark of the Canada Night."Cru's still active on Kanzenshuu, so I've spoken to him a couple of times on there.
Of course, I'm basically just lurking on Kanzenshuu now given my own distaste for Super and the discourse on Kanzenshuu
I've been suuuper busy. It feels like it just doesn't let up since about April last year. First, I had my CPA semester that I fell behind and needed to catch up on. Then the DAY after my exam, I started a new job and had to transition to that. I was expecting that to take some time to adjust, but it was a good opportunity and the pay was MUCH better.
And that ended up being a job from helll.
It was a Property Accountant role for a large property manager, who had just taken on a portfolio of shopping centres across the east coast. Each member of my team were assigned to our own shopping centre to manage all their accounting needs.
But managing retail properties was very new to my company, so none of their processes and systems fit well at all. The result was that each of us had to do 10+ hour days for a solid week or two, sometimes weekends, every fucking month.
Also, I had the misfortune of being stuck with one of the more complicated assets to manage, thanks to having existing property experience and apparently interviewing quite well. Also, the previous accountant for this property did a fucking terrible job - they lied about their work experience to get the role, and had no fucking clue what they were doing. More on that later because it's a goddamn hilarious story.
And then I entered a new semester of CPA and had to juggle both until October, at which point I dedicated all my free time to job hunting so I could get the hell out of there. Luckily, I managed to transition to a new job in January, but that meant having to learn new systems again. What's worse, the previous accountant had done a terrible job - if you're seeing a pattern, this also happened in the job I held prior to all of this shit because I AM CURSED - so it was a long period of trying to clean shit up and learn a new role.
And then my final semester of CPA started. And then COVID hit and they decided that I would need to do all the extra modelling to measure the expected impacts it would have on our operations.
And then, finally, I had my final CPA exam in May. In June I found out I passed!! I was able to clear up the mess left by the previous accountant by June year end, and was now accustomed to the business and its systems.
Finally, with no more study to do, the messes cleaned up, and me settled into my role, I looked forward to things easing up.
Stayed tuned for part two when I find out how hilariously wrong that was in the span of one month.
[[quoteblock]]It feels like it just doesn't let up since about April last year[[\quoteblock]]
I know that feeling. I'm sorry about that. At least you got the succesful exam as that brief respite.
The sad, REAL American dichotomySaiga, that sounds like a parody of your life...so you know it's true. I certainly had similar issues at work. Thanks to COVID, I can officially call myself an online teacher now as well.
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerSai sai busting his ass out there, and meanwhile my biggest problem is doing something with all the free time I have.
It's a weird time to be sure.
I got promoted. But is it a promotion when they give you more responsibilities and a new title but the same pay as before?
I tried being as mediocre as possible but still meeting the minimum so they wouldn't do this to me.
WRYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!
"You can't change the world without getting your hands dirty."Ah, one of those "promotions".
I would start looking for a new job, because your prospects there don't sound so good.
Slowly working through my "To Play" list. The ones that are left:
Steam:
- Psychonauts (finish)
- Mirror's Edge
- Ōkami

- Transistor
- Shantae and the Pirate's Curse
- Sonic Mania
- Freedom Planet
- Bit.Trip Presents Runner 2
PS 3:
Wii / Gamecube:
- Viewtiful Joe (finish)
- Metroid Prime Trilogy

The sad, REAL American dichotomyIco....wow. Now there's a blast from the past.
It was actually my first PS 2 game. Never got very far as I was too stupid for it as a kid.
"You can't change the world without getting your hands dirty."It's in a double pack with Shadow of the Colossus, otherwise I probably wouldn't play it, because I don't have any memories or hype attached to it, like I do with watching friends play Shadow, or the much bigger hype around it.
The sad, REAL American dichotomy
Dear Lord, this. Biggest reason I hate HF.
