Since 2014 means classic characters need hardcore overhaul makeovers.
The animation: Now that i'm watching a TAWOG episode feat. Mrs. Simion, I notice how her animation and motion is somewhat the same art style and animation used for this special. Coincidence? Nope.
Dakota's blog An odd agent of justiceFrom the Wiki page's 'Errors' section:
Even though Buttercup is only on the phone for one second, she still seems to know what the phone call was about.
Um, can't that be chalked up to superhearing? These are the same girls who can hear a cry for help from Earth while on the Moon, through the vacuum of the space.
According to the info on this episode on my TV, this is an evil video game made by Mojo or something.
Or wait, I get now the video game thing mentioned in this.

Improving as an author, one video at a time.i wouldn't mind a series in this style.
All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.I would. The Rubber-Hose Limbs are extremely noticeable in their absence. Everyone moves like a robot. It's very distracting.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.pacing's feeling a bit rushed. stretching this into an hour certainly would've done it justice.
saving thoughts for after Steven Universe. okay, i'm back. i enjoyed the animation, but the pace was a bit too fast and the ending was... for lack of a better word, weak. if a new series is coming, i welcome it, but there is definitely room for improvement.

All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.Well, that was a dickwad ending. "All I wanted to do was make a softball team." BULLSHIT! But I still see this becoming a series innevitably. Plus, was I the only one turned on by the smuty cowgirl dancer? This is also the first time in a long time they used the word flamboyant in a kid's cartoon!
Dakota's blog An odd agent of justiceHonestly I saw the "Mojo controls the girls" thing coming between the clip with the girls in armor and Mojo saying that he will control them near the beginning
Also Now I want to see clips of that special set to actual DDR/Bemani songs now.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought things moved too fast. It seemed like the girls had ADHD and they just blazed through all the plot extremely quick. I have mixed feelings about this as a whole, though the animation wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I don't think I'd wanna' watch an entire series styled like that.
The art style with the knife-edge highlights have already been done to death so what's with the jerky movements? It's stopped, moving at top speed, stopped. It would have been mildly amusing if this style had been reserved for the cyborg girls (infinite power to weight ratio), but everything moves without inertia.
Also the yipping of the "Power Puppy Girls" was grating, especially when they were offered a treat. Were their voices computer altered or were they just given lousy instructions?
Thank Goddess this is the last we'll see of this, for at least another decade.
Personally I agree with the statements that everything moved too fast. I think this is true not only for the story but also for the animation. Honestly this style wouldn't be so bad if everything moved a bit slower. As it is though there's just too much going on and by the time you start to take it on it's already moved on to something else. I think slower pacing would do wonders for the animation here.
I watched it and despite the CGI animation and some questionable changes (Hilarious in Hindsight because Blossom called Princess Morbucks out for being a "spoiled brat" in the Christmas special), the special wasn't too bad. The second part was more in traditional PPG style. If they weren't out of character in the first half, I would have rated it higher.
Overall, in a sense this was worth the wait for a PPG comeback. It's not as good as the first run, but at least it wasn't say, as bad as the revived Sponge Bob.

"Dance Pantsed" was OK. It felt like the old series, for the most part. The only things that annoyed me were a) the new character designs (I only liked Bubbles') and b) the very last joke (about Mojo wanting to make a softball team all along) as it made NO sense. But other than that it was pretty nostalgic, and we even learned more about Utonium's past!
I say that was a false origin since the time traveling episode showed that Utonium lived in Townsville as a child, so that flashback is pure bunk. Unless this is an alternate PPG universe where the girls' origins are completely different from the past version.

what time does it air?never mind. CN, 7:30 PM EST.edited 20th Jan '14 6:57:41 AM by crimsonstorm15
